Actually, genuinely, truly finally: Are there any giant spiders? I hate giant spiders. Indeed. There are a lot of giant spiders. [Grins] Just what I wanted to know.

As one of those shunned freaks that aren't really too keen on Civ, Elemental cannot arrive swiftly enough.
I want spiders. In this- https://www.elementalgame.com/images/artwork/Ele_CreatureConcept_Sheet2.jpg There are seemingly three types, which I hope will be the case and there isn't just one generic 'giant spider' type. I'd like a forest spider that can ambush on the cloth map, a black widow type to have potent venom and maybe a mountain cave spider that...er... scrutinises your t

That video should be taken down, it might give Al Qaeda some ideas on their next terrorist attack.
So is it like a HoMMIV thing where you buy potions/weps/armour etc via a shop?

Maybe he means you can't throw tiles as weapons. Frogboy what would a good comparison game-wise be?
I've debated the morality of software piracy many times with people on another forum and they never give me a satifactory answer when I say 'Surely the best way to protest against high prices is to not buy the product'. They don't do this because they simply want it for free.
If prestige is a measure of how well your cities are progressing perhaps it could/will be used as a bonus in diplomatic activities. I imagine Lord Urban of the Golden Cities has more statecraft clout than Mayor Hovelstone of Swampington-on-mire.

Bioshock with an X-Com theme. NOT what I have been waiting for at all.
@ leeboy26 Not at the moment but everything is subject to change. I'm sure most of this will get addressed in the combat beta. The main point behind the original post is the thought that Abilities are Fun and more Intuitive for the player.
I see thanks for clarifying. Certainly adding skills to a unit design (if it's been researched in warfare first) would add some interesting tactical optio
I'm not in the Beta do weapons have attributes other than + to attack?
Heroes of Might and Magic IV. I missed it out after III as I heard bad things about it and skipped to V. Saw it cheap and bought it and I have to say the people who criticised it need a good talking to. It has far more RPG and strategic options than any of the others but the fanboy purists drowned out the more objective of us with their tremulous, whiney voices.
stager: yes. There will be a pacing option but it'll be different than what we've done in the past. You'll be able to change it mid game back and forth to suit yourself (kind of like in Sins where you can hit + or -).
I'd be interested to hear what options there are for scaling, as I pretty much always choose the longest options available. In the remake of Colonisation the options to scale went up to 'Marathon' settin
I see what was meant by the soldier cost/upkeep problem. If cost were reduced though would an early troop rush not be almost unstoppable against a player that is building infrastructure etc? Perhaps a preferable solution would be to allow the first few troops at greatly reduced price/free perhaps as personal guards for the channeller. Then at least you'd have something if the opponent troop-spams even mediocre units in the early phase. Or perhaps an Empire:Total War<
The games that best avoid LGT are the ones that present a challenge to be surmounted as the endgame. Some examples are Rome:Total War and Sid Meier's Colonisation . In Rome you gained popular support and went against your previously neutral Roman brother factions. In Colonisation you declared independence and had to defeat the Royal expeditionary force (quite hard in the remake but challenging nonetheless). Master of Magic had the spell of Mastery that made

Gold Marks? A Mark could denote a quantity of a crop as the first coins with wheat ear marks did. I don't have the beta but I assume money is held abstractly in a cloud-bank as in most RTS's. Personally, I'd like money to be a resource that has to be moved to be spent so if you wanted to build an inn in town B you had to wait for the money to arrive from the Royal Mint/treasury in your Capital. You could then have enemies seize your money if they take the town.
Champion, however I'd say it should be a lesser, more fundamental term for an eventual hero. Simply 'to champion' a cause strikes me as a beginning for a potential hero. sorry to OP just had to explain my thinking!
