LOL. This is priceless. The game doing a self check to make sure it's correctly patched is now DRM? Oh the drama. What's next? Car warning lights telling you there's something wrong with the car is a form of anti theft? Christ, I love this forum.
Indeed. Stardock has an unfortunate habit of attracting those who have been "touched by the Gods", as they say.

What they meant is that Stardock's time will be devoted 100% to Elemental during the year. In other words, they won't be working on any other games during this period. Either way, this game will be supported with free patches regardless of the time frame.

That's an interesting point. However, does the gameplay not already follow an absolute approach to good and evil? If I were to posit a scenario opposite to yours, one where my sovereign is part of the Kingdoms but in reality is a psychotic ruler - should I not have the option of doing something with the refugees other than absorbing them into my kingdom? The player currently does not have any other choice. I would not mind having more "gray areas" but I am simply trying to stay consistent wit

Playing exclusively as Empire, I always get a little frustrated that I cannot use the Kingdoms-only resource nodes like the refugee camps. I end up having this huge sprawling metropolis and smack dab in the middle is this refugee camp that sticks out like a sore thumb. Instead of outright excluding these nodes based on your allegiance, how about each side puts them to use differently? For example, the Empire can, instead of using it as a population bonus like the Kingdoms, enslave the refugee

Reply to Magic Book in War of Magic

Ehhh..I am not a fan of the card layout. Reminds me too much of MTG. Not that there's anything wrong with that, I would just prefer if Elemental had its own unique style like it does now with the spell book.

Just got my package. I wasn't expecting it to come so early (I am from Canada). Thanks Stardock!

Is there any chance you guys will give the tech tree a pass? Right now it seems like it lacks direction and structure. I feel like I can research anything I want without any consequences. For example I can simply go through the military tree and largely ignore everything else and still win the game. I was hoping for a more balanced approach where the player would need to use all the trees and create strategies around key techs. Going through the tech tree also feels like a chore. I do

Zoom out to the cloth moth. There should be a yellow house icon. That is where you need to take the woman to.
A tech tree based on random breakthroughs discourages the player from making new strategies. That just didn't make sense. If your strategy relies on having technology X, and you don't get it, it doesn't discourage you from making a new strategy, it forces you to make one!
No, it does make sense. I will rephrase my point by asking a question: What incentive do I have for creating a strategy which only work

This seems to be a growing trend (cancer) in the commercial software industry today. Companies would release a product that is 60% done and then provide "support" through a subsequent (and expensive) contract. What you are suggesting is bringing this type of business model to the gaming industry - which I hope does not happen.
The random element adds a nice quirk of unpredictability. You can't just race to one tech, you have to adopt a wider strategy. I love it. The posters above me explained it very well. I wouldn't mind having the probability mechanic in the tech tree go away. In addition to the balance issues created by having a tech tree designed this way, I think these random based mechanics are standing in the way of a well-defined, structured and meaningful tech tree.

1. Make the process of climbing the tech tree more fun and intuitive 2. Remove units and mechanics that don't have a well defined purpose or role (observers vs. forward observers) 3. Re-do the UI to make important text and icons stand out
Quoting BoydofZINJ, reply 48 I will give SD credit for not giving up. However, why am I paying for a beta? Why was the game released this early. Allow me to pose this question...would you rather they had not released the game, and waited 3 months while they work on it? Or, pay and have the game now and at least be able to play it while they work on it and release patches...? <

Thanks for the update. There is one thing that I hope you guys keep in mind while making changes to the game (this was brought up by a poster in a thread about unit customization being 'toothless'). There needs to be an overarching game plan to Elemental. Right now the game is simply a collection of neat features that don't really interact with one another. What I suggest you do is take a sheet of paper and just write about the game. Write a guide on how a player is supposed t

I think the fact that you are suggesting something like this, Gromoth1, exposes a design flaw in the game. You say you want to level up your sovereign and slowly expand without having to confront the AI militarily. You back this up with the remark that defending yourself early on with a bunch of crappy units is not fun. This is a design flaw. It SHOULD be fun to defend yourself early on. Instead of putting a band-aid on the problem by introducing an aggressiveness slider or different AI perso
