Wow, that 'W' in the first picture (in the word 'Weak') looks horrible. The second picture looks much better. I like it.

Purchased the game yesterday. It is very similar to Civ 5, but is a little more fun to play (so far). I am especially fond of the elegant and lean game mechanics: No flimsiness and unnecessary features. Everything in the game has a clear, well-defined purpose. Having said that it's certainly not a "simple" or "primitive" game - there's a lot of depth to it. The game's intuitive and crystal clear UI is a big plus. Research, improvements, expansion, and empire growth all fol

Can you guys release a torrent for the installer? It would solve a lot of the corruption problems people are having.
Quoting marlowwe, reply 41Is there any way a torrent can be made available as an alternate download method? I am also having trouble completing the download. Guessing that won't happen. The second that it would/might happen, is the second I invite myself to the beta (I never owned WOM), which apparently isn't how they want it done. You should be glad that you don't have to w

As we approach the release of the beta many of the game's systems and mechanics are being wrapped up. What has been nagging me the last couple of days however is the way the AI will turn out. Having read the AARs posted by Brad I am concerned about the ability of the AI to handle the growing complexity of the game. Some spells, like raise/lower land have left me wondering whether the AI will be able to use them effectively. A spell like raise land is "multidimensional". A player c

I hope you guys get rid of the pop-up message boxes. It looks very 1999. I suggest having a panel on one side of the screen which manages pop-up messages. Having message boxes pop up the way they do now interrupts the flow of the game and distracts the user (IMHO). The way Anno 2070 handles this is a good example of how to do it right: Any events which are of interest to the player are immediately listed

A recent game that totally blew me away in terms of AI is Unity of Command. I was starting to forget what a good AI looks like, but this game brought it back for me. I hope you guys can create an AI that is on the same level (or better!).
Ultimately, whether a trait in considered meaningful or superfluous is a completely subjective decision.
Hmm, I would argue that it is in fact a fundamental design decision. Each trait that is added to the game must be meaningful and must have a well defined purpose. A player should never look at a trait and say that it is superfluous. Otherwise what is the point of having it in the game? Instead a player should look at a trait and r

For those who have it, please share your thoughts on the game. I am really interested in how it plays.

Reply to The Witcher 2 in PC Gaming

For those who have Witcher 2, how does it compare to DA: Origins? I'm going through the first Witcher and I'm finding the world and characters very wooden and 1-dimensional (at least compared to Origins). For example, I find Geralt's 'badass vibe' a little suffocating...How good is Witcher 2 from this point of view?

I believe financial gain should come from what a company has done instead of what it is going to do. The Kickstarter system is part of a disturbing trend in the game industry where profits are made by minimizing release-day content and maximizing "support" services over a period of time. Without the Kickstarter system (and others like it), companies who follow this warped business model would immediately tank and never get a chance to see the light of day. Giving people "unique
How about a simple toggle that turns randomized tech trees on and off. Because me, I love being forced to work with what I'm given. I want to be able to research caltrops in one game and slaughter an entire mounted army. I want to come up against a mounted army in a different game without caltrops and say, "damn, caltrops would have been really helpful. Oh well, this time I'll use (insert unique tech for that game)".
<

Thanks for the update Derek.
This might have been said already but: Randomized tech trees are not about awarding players technologies that are more powerful than base technologies; it's about giving the player alternatives that may or may not be helpful depending upon how the game unfolds. For example, many of the random technologies in Sword of the Stars are not simply "bigger guns" but instead are "different

I think it's one of those things of trying to make the best game they can right off the bat, then worry about scripting support afterwards. They're doing a lot to make sure things are moddable by XML right now, and if they keep going with that idea, scripting may not be as necessary (though there are always things you'll proba

I've been waiting to hear a substantive response to this question as well. The WoM tools are apparently still under development. I assume that the back-end is the same so any tools developed for WoM will be fully transferable to FE. It would be nice if someone from the team could chime in and tell us the current status and scope of the mod tools.
