Excellent ideas Nathikal, I especially like your faction suggestions.

Seconded - you guys are awesome!
This is a question for Brad: What non-indie developer studios do you admire both in the quality of their games and the way they approach game development? Having said that, what are the differences in Stardock's approach (using Elemental as an example) and theirs?
Thanks for the update Boogie - you guys rock.
Looks great - keep up the good work guys :)

However, I do agree that in hindsight, we would have benefited by enabling the graphics engine earlier so people could provide feedback based on what the game looks like in its mostly complete state. We will have an opportunity to address this as the first expansion pack for Elemental is due out in
this is pretty normal for games. As a game approaches "gold" you don't need to have some of the same low-level programmers.
Flexible labour markets and capitalism at work. Yuk.

These games proved you didn't need a multiplayer element to make great, classic, epic games. Come on man! MoM is a 15 year old game - multiplayer wasn't even mainstream in gaming at the time. I am talking about modern RTS games (like Elemental) which pretty much scream for an amazing multiplayer experience.
Remember Brad also said this game isn't geared toward multiplayer. Multiplayer is just an afterthought and an addon to apease those that want to multiplay for the fun of it. But, the core game is single player and there's not going to be much deviation from that just to apease a handful of multiplayers like yourself.
Having excellent multiplayer design is usually an indicator of good campaign/singleplayer capabilities. I would go as far saying that a strategy game c

I disagree with your post. A lot of "bad" suggestions come about not because people simply wish to have some feature implemented from another game or w/e but because something isn't jiving very well in the current build. Let's use your example about implementing RT tactical combat. If someone were to suggest this and want it implemented right now, then yeah, Brad or whoever is reading the post will say that it obviously can't be done. Being the game designer though, he will go a bit deeper an

In an ideal world if a product is too expensive...you don't buy it. If/when no-one buys it the price changes. No-where in that process is the option labelled "thieve it instead". Now... Telling a manufacturer to "either lower a price or I will steal it from you" is called 'extortion' and is

I don't see anything wrong with them rewarding people who spend time (and in some cases their own money) to promote Elemental around the internet and the Real World. That's not really what it did. You were eligible for the discount if you: a ) clicked the "join army" button on the website, and b
Agreed. Wouldn't mind if it were more wispy and transparent.
They just got back from their long weekend so I doubt we'll be getting anything today.
Tactical Combat - It looks to me that the make or break for this game will be the tactical combat. Building up an empire and designing units is fun, but only up to the point of seeing it in action. Without meaningful combat (i.e. being able to see and understand how your choices played out), it all becomes something of a stat building exercise. Since we haven't yet seen this aspect, I'll leave off there, but from a gameplay perspective this is the bigges

Do you have any mathematicians on your team? You could probably start off my making a simple linear optimization problem with 2-3 constraints (min distance between players, # of goodie huts, starting resources) and then just build it up from there. Granted, you'll probably get something like a 500x500 matrix but hey it's a start right?

I'd try rolling back to the 10.5 or 10.4 drivers. I've been having my own issues with 10.6 and I have the same card as you.
