Will pre-order when I get home. Can't say I am too excited about playing around with the cloth-map though...

I think if you see the tower of time for the eighty-ninth time you really need to get out more. :P Maybe we are getting a little bit ahead of ourselves here. We are not sure how the lore of the game will be used in the sandbox game where the majority of the time will be spent - at least by me. Now I do not on principle object to there being events around landmarks that have a name, yet I do not want to see anything where the game pretty much forces me to do anything with this landmark
As for "going gandalf" that point is silly. A: Ignoring city building to go learn flare is mind-numbingly stupid, B: Using your channeler in battle is risky and unnecessary, and C: You have heros to learn stuff in the field, your channeler should be safe at home. A: That's why I said you should have conventional research. Because giving up city-building to learn Flare is mind-numbingly stupid, and if that was the
That picture is funny! [e digicons][/e] This idea of pulling people owards you seems not a bit engaging imo. I prefer management on my side being a major factor rather than safety. Also in reality rivaling kingdoms are prone to think highly of themselves and less about their neighbours. So even if the neighbour seems safer people are not very likely to leave their country. I prefer managing towns to be the major factor in growth. In the end, if you make the countryside s
AH well, I just hope the sandbox game will not have any story watsoever, that is I want to not be railroaded in any way there. I want to play however I want to without being forced to do this now and that later. I am sure Stardock will make this possible. I will probably not even look at the campaign beyond the first mission or so. Onc I understand the basic mechanics of this game I want to play sandbox. The campaign in GalCiv was so stupid and boring that I do not want to play anythi
Boodiebac, are you saying that regular units can not become regulars, veterans or elite units like they could in MoM?
Oh the horror that we should play with a cloth-map in the beginning... [e digicons]8O[/e]
in order to keep relations up you were however forced to make dificult calls, andonly in rare cases could you play the game start to finish in relative safety, and even then it required a pro-handling of the diplomatic system and an intimate knowledge of it. In no way was it ever so dull as you describe it here as it always required a careful monitoring of the opposition, assessing threats and then taking preparing measures to meet threats you may face. Maybe you could to a certa
This whole weapon thing was your idea? I hated that feature and the countless techs that accompanied it. Now I have a name to add to the evil feature! :P
His schedule says that today he'll be doing some on-camera stuff..dunno if that's for Elemental or something else, but I'll keep everyone posted if some videos get released.
looking forward to that! :D
OK this actually sounds very cool. This was also my idea of an agenda, even if I may hae worded it wrong. ;) I just fear that even an AI obeying the rules in the OP will give things away that it should not. Remember that not wanting to disclose info can also be a dead giveaway of it's intentions. In the end you learn to adapt to that and you will learn what to expect in different situations. In a game lik Civ IV diplomacy was handled with random factors and arbitrary dice roll
What I foresee is me knowing that I should get two more garrisons + a scroll or two of 'defend against ability X' before I enter the tower. This would very much ruin the experience since exploring and not knowing what will come is what makes this tense. I want to not know I win a battle or clear a dungeon. I had not thought about the legitimacy of the map items. I am unsure what to think of that. In the end I would think a random system would be more fun since then we can share o
Quoting ChongLi, reply 44 ... AoW is not at all a worthy successor. MoM does not have a worthy successor, which is why so many people have such high hopes for this game. ... What is it you kids type these days--QFT? More and more, I suspcect that a big part of my motivation for typing too much around here and wanting to play hard in the beta is some mostly-unconscious expectations managem
That screenie is old, and the heroes are probably a bit higher to really distinguish them from the rabble, and to literally make them seem like a 'great' person.
Right, I guess I will pre-order anyways and pay for the shipping. If this game will not be great, I will come over to SD HQ, knock on the door andgive all of you the frowning of a lifetime! ;)
FFH2 as in the Fall From Heaven Civ IV mod?
Monk, your opinion is as appreciaed as anyone else's. You are indeed very welcome because because you have not played a game like this, you can tell if the game works intuitively or not, and maybe if the explanations in-game are clear or not. Since most of us have in fact played games like these, we do not have the luxury of being good judges on these points. In the end not even beta-experience is needed. I am a tester for a well-known major release and while I do not have knowledge o
Will this US version be any different from the version released in Europe? There are no restrictions on running US software on European computers like in the console industry, right?
Banned for haing a silly member number.
Why should I not be allowed to pick up a box in Holland and still pre-order? International retail is handled through third party publishers (which tends to not be finalized until very late in development), and we don't do preorder shelf boxes as you'd find in game stores in any case.
Hmmm... So if I ordered a boxed version, what kind of box would you send then? I understand that I could download that game a
I am not sure if the AI can even have an agenda apar from meeting a victory condition. Let us suppose that that is the case, that is the AI can have an agenda in the sense that it wants to conquer another one's capitol city. Now suppose the AI will not reveal any info that will not further his agenda... What info would it release to you? Keep in mind that not releasing any info can also be a telltale sign that the AI is up to something. Ideally you will want the AI to act as if it is
Shurdus: if you buy the game, automatically you have the downloable version for good too. You could destroy the disc (heretic!) and you would still be able to install it as long as have internet access to download the game from Impulse. Also, you can actually burn your own copy to a disc from your download. I haven't done it so I don't remember the details but it's possible. Not saying you shouldn't want a boxed version, just that the download
If the lore will be added to the game inthe way Jalicos describes then I will be thrilled. Even if that is the case I still would not want to see a system where you can tell what the Tower of Time will contain just because you saw it before. I do not even want a system where you know this tower will contain one out of three options. What I would very much like to see is a system where lore may be added to landmarks, but there may be none. The lore attached to some place may of course
Oh, and adding to my argument, the very last thing I want to se is something similar to the GalCiv2 tech tree. That one was huge, very difficult to navigate through and boring. Having to tech your way through tons of techs that essentially do the exact same thing was extremely boring in my book. If there are different techs for making weapons sharper and such, let us hope we do not have to plow through tons of techs just to get to some real advancement.
What I find disappointing about the techs presented in the july faq is that apparently every single race - or whatever word is more applicable in EWOM - can use every single mount as long as the right tech is researched. Imo it would be way more fun to have each race linked to different mounts - maybe in the form of a bonus like 'race A gets a +1 combat bonus if riding wolves'. What I do like about the teching is that it potentially opens up different options to winning this game
