That reconfiguring is actually a nice idea. I would also like to see units carrying bows for when the enemy approaches, and they can drop them and enter melee once the enemy closes in. Allowing units to carry miltiple weapons like that would be cool I think. Another idea that comes to mind is allowing for something called a pilum like the romans had. It is essentially a spear that was tossed into the enemy rank before charging. Even if it was not the most useful of ranged weapons it d

Frogboy said he was looking into allowing infinite researching, so I was thinking about something like Civ IV has with future tech 1, 2... It would be a system where you will never finish researching no matter how many turns the game takes, or what is how I read it.
Very cool. I am looking forward to the system allowing for infinite research.
Then again, in the places where the game will be sold nudity is associated with sex, so that argument is made of fail.
Actually going into those specifics would of coure be quite over the top. That is where some abstract comes in... Why would we ever need that many categories really? We can all imagine that our weapon is a special, slightly longer *insert sword type* because it was made in *enter region of the map*, which is, as we all know where the *insert some special blacksmith race* lives... Etc. Some one with more imagination than I ave can finish the story. I never really understood why
I really like option one, those sort of complexities can really add to the game imo. There are far too many casual strategy games out there already. Like Civ IV I would really much love to see this game fill a niche for those who like to stop and think rather than for those who want a quick and easy game. However, with system one there needs to be a way to reduce micromanagement. Maybe we can ask for goods per city. Say city A needs ore and I have two sources, then I can select city A
On a mediocre laptop screen with a small font it is very hard to see the difference between the rn and m. I even had to read the explanation of pomo to realise that it said pomo. Before that I assumed it was an insult of some kind. then again my eyes are not what they used to be any more. :(
I mistakenly read 'porno-ho'. :P
Those ideas indeed reflect LotR accurately and I applaud that you summarised them so well. However, those ideas will probably not be implemented because we all know that in SP games the player will probably not be lost ever, so those items will probably be overpowered and therefore not a very good idea to add to the game.
Let us leave parallels to the modders and give it a month or two. The LotR and Star Wars mods will be out soon enough.
Since we know not what the game will look like it will be hard to tell if MoM can be made from the basic template that the game will Given the fact that a lot of the game will be in python and can be edited with little effort and that Stardock will release modding tools, I would assume that you could get very far into changing Elemental into MoM.
Also it would be nice to receive a boxed copy of the game without having to pay 20 to 25$ in shipping. I want to be able to pre-order the game, pay online and get a box send to me from a distrubuter in Europe that will ship the game to me for a reasonable price.

If the player could build these structures then you might be able to spam themBuildability does not necessarily equate to spammability. There's the tried-and-true one-per-empire arbitrary cap, as well as simply making them VERY expensive and/or big (when was the last time any GC2 player tried terror star spam?) [quote who="Campaigner" reply="5" id="2302337"]Ok, the camper wants to avoid getting streamrolled and just wants to build & tech up....it's like reading the official C&C 3 forums when C&C 3 was in development! The solution for that is to play on EASY difficulty. Because if slowing stuff like that would be the default then it's goodbye To get all those cities/nodes/mines that made my great army I had sacrificed army, mana, expansion and techi
Structures like these add to the epic feel, so I think adding them would be very cool. However there should be resrictions to this. If the player could build these structures then you might be able to spam them, which seems silly to me. Finding and claiming these towers - even waging wars over them - seems very cool. These towers might give you something in the short term while slowly corrupting your channeler long-term without you noticing it... I am sure some one more creative than
An ideal beta tester would indeed put in hours and hours of work and feedback reports, even when the game is no fun. However, I would recommend any one to just have fun while testing. We play these games to relax, right? It seems ironic to me that the testers would put un countless hours of no fun in an unfinished product, only to find out that he is done with the game once the final release comes. I would much rather Somewhat report bugs - you know, carefully report anything I find
[quote who="ckessel" reply="4" id="2301345"]I'd love to see a tech tree driven by the old D&D "find your spells" method. If you don't know what I mean, in old school D&D you could only learn a spell if you could find a copy. Some spells were well known, so everyone had a copy and you could buy one. As the spells got more powerful though, you frequently relied on a loot drop of a scroll to find the spell you wanted and inscribe it in your spell book. Also, there was a maximum number of
32-bit systems can use up to 3.25 GB of ram, right? What enourmous maps would you use to even scratch that limit... Even if ram would be a limiting factor, I am sure they could make it so that huge maps are not needed for a full experience. CivIV works perfectly fine with standard sized maps, and the game does not scale very well to the arger map types.
Saving during combat would also make it so that the tension would be completely gone. I would be very very much opposed against that.
The only C&C that was really good was he original imo, later ones all disappointed me. They missed the 'oooh and aaah' factor that the first one had. C&C is just not about strategy, which is a major flaw in a strategy game. This has become a franchise that I could not care less about.
GalCiv had the worst teching ever. Plowing through phasers I, then II, then III... It became old really, really fast and there were way, WAY too many techs that were clones of the previous ones. I think games like these have replayability as a major selling point, and keeping things fresh is what the goal should be. Therefore I think the tech tree or skill trees or whatever should offer you different options that are all viable and therefore remail interesting the tenth playthrough.</
