It does take place in the Gal Civ universe, in its mentioned about the Altarians basically being able to use magic (though it isn't called that.) and how one of the other playable races (can't remember the name, think its Drath?) was originally from the same planet as the Altarians while something similar is mentioned in Elemental.

I agree completely with the TC, and agreed when a similar thing was suggested during the pre-release beta. I'm getting tired of the 'epic' battles consisting of one or two guys with sticks or having one spearman defend a city of 100 or so (luckily there's no crime!)

I would love to see more variations of these used in-game. Right now there's only Kingdom and Empire, but you could easily extend it to have some nations spread an arctic environment, or a desert. Another improvement to this would be that environment doesn't spread quite so fast within your influence. Ri
If you end up not liking Space Empires V, you could always try Sword of the Stars.
I brought the PC version of this game after playing Case Zero and despite what is said above I think its a very good port since all of the main technical weaknesses of the 360 version aren't applicable to the PC version. However, I had to use a workaround to get my 360 controller working with the game despite the fact that the controller is supposedly supported by default. Anyway, I'm a big fan of the series - including its much-berated 'time limit.'

Primarily because of the fact although it's argued that considerable thought and effort has been placed in it, why are concepts recycled wholesale from Galciv II? The 'Dreadlords' there were a fun tongue-in-cheek reference to other 4x games having big-bads. But what purpose does it serve t

You've got fanatics that will give anything attached to their favorite series or publisher or developer a ten, and you've got pro. reviewers knocking down games for reasons the fans actually like the series. I will certainly say between the two, I've managed to save my money and not wind up with

[quote quoting="post"] Problem started with the disk I bought at WM being defective. The game would install, then it would start up and try to run. I did the 1.09 patch and it would just lock on the loading screen requiring a reset. Uninstalled and did the long download which on my connection was a royally SLOW pain! Got it installed and started it. Problem #1 The audio clips and goes away in the initial movie. Escape and go to main menu. Wa
It was in the Beta at one point, I'm pretty sure I remember being able to choose islands etc, etc.

I agree. The free content we'll be getting that was only briefly outlined in a short summary of upcoming content isn't good enough.
