I think that, just possibly, Sean was being droll in his comment about the "current economic situation," above.
Because it's not totally obvious Trojasmic was joking along with him?

Very cool AAR, this is the sort of thing I like.
Came to post the same thing. I have a feeling that the smartest AI may still be terrible so they're masking it by mixing it in with the highest bonuses...
:( It really does expose the total lack of AI in the game. Here's hoping it gets developed before release this time. Good post though, screenshots really show it. Even with those bonuses the AI is still incapable of winning.
I think a HOMM-style person to equip wouldn't go amiss. So a generous number of slots, but still limited to 1 helm, 1 amulet, 2 rings, 1 breastplate, 1 gauntlets, 1 weapon each hand and 4 charm slots. And a cloak. Would be cool, and make it easy to swap items between heroes/champions with a screen like this.
This. Same for cities. I think if you want a city to idle, you should have to select 'Idle' from the build list.
Yeah, we've got to remember that most people who play the game won't play any mods, especially without a built-in interface. Look at Civ5, about the only thing good about that game is the integrated mod manager and portal, and the numbers show mods don't get played by most.
Agree. Need some more normal haircuts in there.
I agree, I'd add that the lack of faction differentiation ties in heavily with your points about imba heroes and unit stats feeling insignificant - a lot of the faction traits affect unit stats, so when the optimal strategy is always gear up heroes, you won't notice all the faction differences. As for quests, I just hope that the AI is there to compete for them and carry them out just as well as a human, or at least close to.
I think it's a terrible idea for the reasons Mtrixis stated. - AI can't handle it without significant programming time. - Management of multiple cities should be streamlined as much as possible. - Adds nothing to gameplay which couldn't be added in a less convoluted way.
+1 for 1-tile-per-city-level, and an extra one for the 'wall' building would give useful and efficient visual feedback as to how valuable a city is also would support a system where the number of buildings placeable per level is limited. At the moment there's no point to city specialization outside of the level-up building choice [which is a cool feature]. You just end up building everything in every city, the only priority is the order or whether to build tr
I think if they want to put espionage in the game, it should be a unit kit which is very expensive and keeps them hidden on the map, and lets them conduct espionage missions against enemy cities at the expense of gold, but then they could be used as assassins if you give them some good battle gear too.
Agree. Animals should just kill population, maybe a couple of improvements, but not the entire city. A few more suggestions I'd make: - Show the path a unit is routed on and the number of turns it'll take to get to each spot, like Civ4. - Have a more dominant popup for cities becoming idle, and have 'remain idle' as a build option.
I've already put more time into this than the original. I agree - it's fun. Even though I'm still on my first playthrough, and the AI is non-present, it's fun. After the creases are ironed out I have high hopes for this game. Getting the Master of Magic feel from it already.
just 'Lore' would be good. But I'm also fine with Magic.
It seems like with a bit of refinement it'll be a really good game. Crashes every 15 minutes or so for me.
Yeah - I'd like to be able to play the level where the AI gets no bonuses or cheats but plays to the best of its ability. If that level's put in the game and the AI can beat me at it, then it'll be good fun. It's a cheap design decision to lump bonuses in with the ' ludicrous level' AI - it would mask the AI's true quality.
Agreed. I think the extent of the disappointment can partially be attributed to how much hope we have/had for the game - I wish instead of calling this the release they called it the open beta, and all problems would have been solved.

Should be a constant review of games to update for patches This is just not feasible
Hey, and some people don't mind dying in car crashes. And it's not like EVERY car will break down, so it's ok, right?
Bad The early release was an unmitigated disaster of crashes. Yes, some will post that THEY never had a crash so it must not have happened or been very isolated, but the general sentiment has been the opposite. Even with 1.05 (aka "Day 0") the game is still missing swaths of promised content (like a functioning AI, diplomacy system or fully working magic) Brad Wardell has made it clear (in a couple of

But yeah, hopefully over the year or so there'll be a lot of improvement. I still regret preordering for £35 when I'll be playing barely any of it.
