It depends what difficultly level you play it on... I'm pretty sure it treats the player differently at monarch and upwards. Just look at the relations grid, there are a lot of penalties for human players with AIs that are non-existent between AIs. Tech trading also, they trade around their techs a lot more freely. Also, the auto-resolve argument above, VicenteC is right. If the AI's autoresolve data about a battle is bad, it doesn't matter how good the strategic A

The thing about the tabletop game it it's very luck-based. That fun when you're actually rolling the dice but when if your dragon rider wearing magic armour with a 3+ ward save got one-shotted by a catapult in a game which doesn't give you all the technical details I imagine it'd be very annoying. Also the combat is totally nonsensical. It takes one or two guys dying to break a unit, and sometimes they'll flee from combat with any deaths. I don't think a direct

I like where things are going. The PC is about gameplay and story > all. Consoles are about eye candy. If you have an idea and want to make a game, you go to PC, ignore piracy and distribute online - way more suited to indie devs. If you're a corporate behemoth afraid of piracy you go to the console and churn out a shit game. I'll never go to consoles for a few reasons: - I'm a try before you buy type. I'll pirate something first and iff I like it I'll buy it if it's reason

I'm very much against having envoys as units on the map which require micromanagement. This always annoyed me in the TW series. Decided to present my idea graphically: http://img143.imageshack.us/img143/9098/21036256.png If anyone's played MOO2 they'd work like governors, just instead of assigning governors to star systems you'd assign an ambassador to a faction. They'd then rest in the capitol city/palace and travel to the other faction's capitol c

Someone ought to make a TBS which is basically Warhammer. It'd work like the Total War series, but the battles would be turn based.

Basically, they think the more clicks you are forced to do in order to do a tedious task, the better, where as I'd like tedium and "BS" minimized, automated, etc.
I agree with the general sentiment.
also, I'd like to see more Dogpiling on the BIG guy as opposed to Dogpiling on the little guy ... I think it would make for more interesting games.
Yeah, that's so true. In Civ4 at least when an AI is way in the lead they are his servants, when the player's in the lead he gets ganged up on. That's actually one of my biggest gripes: In a FFA-type game like that when the AI is
AI is stupid and will be stupid in video games for a long time. This fact is obfuscated by throwing more challenging scenarios at the player. Which is what AC did. However, it does not follow that a player should not be able to do things the AI cannot. Not only does that limit the player to a level of depth that is unacceptable for a strategy game that completely ignores the multiplayer community. It's true that

Let me just interrupt the gushing a bit - I love SMAC/X, it's my favourite all-time game. A lot of the concepts are highly original and fun, and the narrative and way in which it builds the setting's verisimilitude is amazing considering it's a 4X TBS and not an RPG. The AI in that game was pretty bad. Don't put anything like probe teams in Elemental unless the AI will use them to their full effect. Don't make unit designer components in unless the AI understands how to use them prope
