Suggestion- split AI bonuses and AI difficulty into two seperate options.
Pretty much as it says- I want the smartest AI, but with no bonuses.

Came to post the same thing.
I have a feeling that the smartest AI may still be terrible so they're masking it by mixing it in with the highest bonuses...
Isn't Challenging a full AI without bonuses?
If it isn't, then I think we would be better off having a difficulty level with the best AI, but no bonuses instead of splitting the options.
That said, the situation isn't as simple as one might think. Some things are just incredibly difficult for the AI and some small help - not a bonus giving numeric advantages - may be necessary in order for the AI to function. Typically these include Fog of War cheats. Besides, humans cheat way more than AI by autoreloading, using Ctrl-N to create a starting position they like, picking their opponents and so on..
There have been quite a few discussions about this earlier. Challenging is full AI without any bonuses. Above challenging the AI get bonuses, below challenging AI is less smart. Not sure it the AI gets penalties on lower difficulties.
The tooltips in-game need to say this then.
I would like to second this. I want the smartest AI without any AI bonuses whatsoever.
It used to be that Challenging was just that but the verbiage in 0.90/0.91 indicates that may not be the case anymore (it says it's a smart AI but also with some bonuses). Normal now says it "progresses" at the same level as the player so I am assuming that means the AIs get no bonuses although it also says average intelligence compared to high intelligence for harder levels. I don't like this. You should be able to play against the smartest AI without AI also getting resource bonuses.
It would be ideal to separate AI intelligence and AI bonuses as two different settings. If not, at least we need an AI setting that's fully smart and with no AI bonuses and the help text should CLEARLY indicate that.
On challenging, the AI sovereign's are getting lots of free skills. Also they seem to be easily out growing me in number of cities and number of units. Militias that come with each city for defensive purposes also seem boosted.
I'd also like 2 sliders for difficulty. The AI definitely seems much better with .90 but I can't tell whats due to the freebies they are getting.
