All the base stats did was muddy the waters. Why have strength that gives +attack and +carry when you can just have a trait that is called "strength" and gives those instead? They were intermediaries with no purpose.
Because I still would like a baseline quantity around which to center the buffs and debuffs. Removing the base quantity isn't removing an intermediary.

I am skeptical in regards to the removal of strength, constitution, etc.; and the thinning of the tech tree. I thought the three was too thin to begin with. But I will wait to see.
I wouldn't mind this as long as you forced into only one type of defensive role. That is, if you have major armor (defense to weapons) then you had to be vulnerable to magic, and vice versa. Maybe the magic rings of fireball-protection could be exceptionally prone to oxidizing iron. :)
Why not just add building restrictions so people can't snake? Force builders to build from the center-out and completely fill out a perimeter before expanding out to a new outward layer. If x = city center , y = established building, z = potential new building location , and _ = blank space: Force ____ Z YY_ Y X Y_ Y ZZ _ ____
If I get enough collected, I am willing to drive there and make a scene in their parking lot. [e digicons]O:)[/e]
Second random note: Warlock looks awesome.
Random note into the conversation: FE and WoM "made me" buy MoM from gog.com. :)
I wouldn't mind more density options, but at the very least the default should not place something every 3-5 tiles away from the last goody.
A few more thoughts I've entertained as I continue to play: Why is auto-explore broken? It either walks my scouts directly at the nearest large hostile army, or it simply does not work. It is too easy to obtain injuries in battle, and too difficult to remove them. This bug continues to bother me: icons pop in and out at different times, and some continue to show even after I build on the land they occupy. <img style="
Tell this to Peter Pan.
Actually, Kalin's thing might work, or at least contains the seed of an idea. One of the neatest factions in FFH was the one that allowed your cities to be 3 tiles out, instead of 2, so you could have HUGE cities, but at a cost of how many you could have. Since we're also watching the faction differentiation discussion starting to form, this could be a good mechanic to implement. However, one of the things that
If you are going in this route, I request one thing (and I'm not sure why, because it really doesn't "matter" anymore): enable the players to choose the improvements'/buildings' locations. I really enjoy the Sim-City vibe of placing buildings.
This sounds awesome. A nit-pick: but can you make sure the kingdom's main color as represented in the UI matches the kingdom's zone of control color on the map?
Choice is good, but I prefer the black outlines.
After thinking about this more, I may not be a fan. This is one of the reasons I don't like Civ. Can you at least place the buildings now in Civ?
Can we bring back the marriage system from EWOM? I liked that it was kind of fun to get grand kids, load them with sugar and send them off to get killed... well kind of anyway.
I do like the marriage system in WoM. Although I didn't notice it was gone in FE.
What would be good in general is configurable icon filters on the map. Let the player individually turn on and off each type of icon, so a noob can avoid info overload but an advanced player can plan properly. And of course make sure to provide full tooltips on the icons, so the player can mouse-hover and see the details (e.g. "Ubertroll Lair: this lair will occasionallly spawn monsters until it is cleared by a hero",

Please correct me if I am wrong, but I am under the impression that the city's zone of control shape is a function of the city's buildings' placement. If so, will our zone of controls simply become circular with this change?
This intro does kind of make me feel like the Sovereigns are somewhat weaker in the game than they are in the intro. In the game they're just a hybrid of a pioneer and a hero, as we've stripped them from all the special stuff they had in WoM. Either they need something extra, or the narrative needs to say that they have been weakened for some reason and need to regain their strength.
Great v
Thanks for the feedback. Kongdej - I shall do my best to memorize these icons. Ragmash - the diagrams are easy. I use snagit (the awesome program that does this) at work for showing clients step by step directions, and the development team bugs. It has a 30 day free trial if you want to use it.
It's pointless to try to give an early beta a review score. I think something got lost in the debate. What I am saying, and you will see this happen in the coming weeks: The PREVIEWs will be written. They will be posted. And then the battle in comments areas will occur. You will likely find that almost anyone who totally craps on Fallen Enchantress has never played WOM or FE. But they heard "how bad" WOM
Using Metacritic's numbering system from http://www.metacritic.com/about-metascores At launch, I would have given WoM a 15-20. In its present state, I would probably give it 40-50. As of 0.86, I would give FE a 60-65. If the tech tree, faction differentiation, etc. gets cleaned up, I can see giving FE a 75-85. LOL. In other words, your opinion is irrelevant?
Ahhh, marketing. Or as I call it, psychology of the critic and consumer. Using Metacritic's numbering system from http://www.metacritic.com/about-metascores At launch, I would have given WoM a 15-20.
