Sometimes the "speak to" icon has a red circle and line through it. Why is that?

Not to derail the thread, but is this 'the' Jon Shafer'?
This is the most awesome title I've ever seen for a thread about a strategy game. That is all. Jon
Like, do you create a group of soldiers or other units and explore with them also?

It's like this in GalCiv2 and I hate it. The AI's should have to explore too.
I was confused, I thought there was maybe some tech you researched that allowed you to start building heroes...
well, it costs 1 food instead of 2, and it does support population after huts are built.
Yes it's a beta but come on. After having suffered the 1.0 release and the subsequent patch mania it feels like we're back on square one. My definition of a beta is something where the major ie gamebreaking bugs are gone and theres a list of known bugs so that testers know what to look for and report the as yet undiscovered, hopefully minor bugs. This beta is so bug ridden with CTDs, dozens of minor bugs and design flaws that it's ridiculous. Lets c
ok. I've been hiring NPC's all along, THAT is creating a hero or a champion? I thought it was something separate.
...but how do you actually create them? I've managed to play all of my games without ever doing it, and I can't find much info on how to create them...I see the wandering NPC's with unique names, does creating a hero create one of them?
But one of the bigger UI problems I found now is the lack of next/previous city button. You can click on the cities on the top left but that is not as good as next/previous...
The 'page up' and 'page down' buttons cycle through your cities...
1.1 Beta is just another buggy broken beta, after 7-8 months one would expect something better, this version isn't much better than the crap they put out in April! The magic system blows chunks, tactical combat is just boring and the game just keeps on crashing! They should consider renaming Elemental to "Beta Testing the Broken Game"! i think i may have it figured out. i think a city needs 2 food to create, but if you only have 1 food available a city is built that can't grow until you build a hut. I don't know if this was intentional or if it's a bug...
so it seems that second cities don't start with the normal max ten population, they start with a max of zero and they don't increase each turn. If I build a hut, my max pop goes to 25 and then starts building up. but before I build a hut, nothing happens. Is this a bug?
As a side note, I completely understand the team has had their hands full with updates/patches, but I really hope that the documentation will updated/deepened/made more useful in terms of step-by-step info, etc.
Supposedly, Brad was working on a new v1.1 manual.
It means you have buildings that are taking or using up 10 citizens. Some(if not all) buildings now use your population as a resource and the ones I have seen take 5 each. So you have a pop of 20, but only 10 left for other buildings now...but dont worry, your population will go up and that will give yo more citizens to use in buildings or what not.
Thanks! :)
Are you supposed to be able to build multiple workshops in one city now?
Yes. I can do it, and I've noticed the AI doing it also.
Is that how 1.1 is supposed to work? How do I get my population up in secondary cities?
I have 20 population in my city, but -10 citizens. What does this mean?

My wife wanted to update Facebook for a while...I tried in vain, to tell her about the sheer magnitude of the 1.1 beta. So I hit her with a fireball.
When I first meet Janusk, he threatens to takeover my first city. also, I get a CTD after hitting the end turn button for the first time. (I haven't tried again yet)
