Wait - so you're saying I can raze it right away, if I hit x, but researching it gives me a button? Is this bug # 34,617?

Firstly, I'm very familiar with this kind of game, I play a lot of Civ and Master of Magic and AOW:SM. How do you raze a city in this game? Please don't tell me you cannot; a game where things can be created but not destroyed is truly stupid on its face. -Keith
Hey SD fans. I'm part of a small team myself and we created this game, 100 Rogues, for the iDevices. It took us 2 years and we're still working our asses off on it. The game is basically a turn-based Diablo 2 with permadeath & high score leaderboards, pixel art, and 16 bit SNES style music. There's more info on the official site. <img src="http://i.im
This is so dead on, very good OP. Brad & company, please read this post!
I was starting to worry about the character of this Wardell guy. Then I read point 7 and *RENEWED RESPECT*** -Keith
God I love Fantasy General, and MoM. I feel that AoW:SM and HoMM are both very "messy" feeling in their systems. Currently, Elemental also has this problem, and I'm hoping they clean it up like crazy, fast. Can someone tell me more about this Dominions game? Does it have turn based tactical combat? Is 3 the best one?
Ugh... paid beta. =[ Why, stardock? Why?
I thought someone was gonna yell at me for saying "i know we're in paid beta" so non-chalantly =]
It's sad that so many of you mistook what I said for "I LIKE HEXES BETTER!!!" somehow. And I'm also sad that some of you seem to think that there is nothing more to game design than preference. The truth is, there's often a "best tool for the job" situation with various design challenges. With regards to moving armies around a map, hexes are better. Even if I "like" squares more, it doesn't matter, because hexes simply make more sense. </
A lot of you are entirely missing the point by saying "I personally think X". The point is, your individual preference isn't important, and neither should be Brad Wardell's. He (and you) should focus entirely on what the facts are. One or two of you are also making the mistake of thinking that I am factoring in "realism" for why Hexes are better. The truth is I could care less about realism; but mechanically it is just better for the reasons I listed i
To add to that list: Fantasy General is a wonderful high-fantasy strategy game. I recommend ALL Elemental fans check it out asap! Guy who uses the word "sidewards" doesn't like hexes. More support! ;)
Ahhhhh! Thank you. =] I not smamrrrt
Really? Because usually when someone says "sorry" as an adjective they mean pathetic...
Brad Wardell on why we have squares instead of hexes. "I hate hexes," says Wardell when asked what he thinks of Civ 5 's big new feature . "One, I like being able to move in eight directions. I don't like only being able to move in six. Two, it makes the game feel like playing on a hardcore board tile game. I just don't like that look." </blockq
"like all of Stardock's titles, is as "homespun" as any video game can be, and Wardell's personality and preferences shine through almost all of its (sorry) elements." Wow. Sudden negativity. Anyone know why there are NO reviews of Elemental out yet? -Keith
I put a few hours into the Sims 3... and here is my expression of the game, written in 5 minutes in QBasic. This is exactly what playing the Sims is like: http://expensiveplanetarium.blogspot.com/2009/09/sims-boiled-down.html Glad you all seem to be happy to watch Gamestop go. Worst thing about it was how it bought up all the smaller stores that actually gave a shit ab
I know that elemental is in paid beta right now, but I'm wondering how they've done with balancing their other games. Balance is a really delicate process and I haven't played much of GalCiv or Sins... can anyone weigh in on StarDock's ability to balance a game like this? Thanks!
Go Brad! The latest version is a lot improved from the initial one. I love you guys too, although I do think Elemental has a way to go still.
So the guys at the Gamestop by me said that they don't have Elemental in stock at all, nor do they expect to be getting any. Even worse, they offered me the Sims 3 as a replacement. I sarcastically said "Oh yeah, that'll do" before laughing all the way to the exit. Kinda sucks that they aren't carrying it, but then again, their PC section was essentially StarCraft 2, WoW, the Sims and about four other games, so... yeah. They'll be dead in 5 years.
I agree, AI is very important and thus far it feels pretty weak... although I haven't played on Hard mode yet. Either way it shouldn't be doing silly stuff, it should always be *some* kind of serious threat.
Hey all. Elemental RULES . With that out of the way, I have some questions. 1. I thought this was supposed to be a really low-end friendly game... well, I have a pretty sweet computer, StarCraft 2 runs like a dream with everything all the way up, and yet with everything all the way DOWN on elemental it runs like crap! What gives? 2. I'm glad there's a quick move on terrain (although pa
ohhhh my godddddddd *gasms*
Fallout 3: For those who want to play Fallout, but prefer a broken combat system and stupider writing. And broken systems, in general.
I noticed that the little buttons near the very bottom were greyed out, and also the "researching" panel on the bottom right was also greyed out. I assumed that this was maybe because I didn't have a "research-building" or whatever - i.e. it's too early to begin research. However, I did notice if you click the large button on the left side of the screen, and then click Research, the game crashes to desktop. Sorry if this has already been posted! &nbs
I am SO happy there's turn based combat. Holy crap. AGHHGGHGHGH
