How do you raze cities?

Can't figure out for the life of me

Firstly, I'm very familiar with this kind of game, I play a lot of Civ and Master of Magic and AOW:SM.

How do you raze a city in this game?  Please don't tell me you cannot;  a game where things can be created but not destroyed is truly stupid on its face.

A.)  There is a technology in the military tree you can research that adds a "Raze City" button to the city menu when you look at it (in the book in game)

~ or ~

B.) Just skip that, highlight the city, and press 'x' on the keyboard instead .. and it'll raze (after a "Are you sure?" style prompt)

.. both work .. one obviously works from the start, making the tech version pretty silly to wait for.

- You have to research the Fortifications tech (via Training) in the Warfare (Kingdom) technology tree or the Warrior Castes tech (via Armies) in the Conquest (Empire) technology tree before you can raze cities. Once researched, open the city detail screen (big circle on the lower mid section of the screen) and click the Raze City button.

Oh, didn't know that.

Wait - so you're saying I can raze it right away, if I hit x, but researching it gives me a button?  Is this bug # 34,617?

Why do you need to "research" the fine art of smashing and burning? It would make more sense if the researched version added "looting" and gave you some gilder or supplies..

I completely agree! There is no reason to research this at all. I think a mod can fix this.
