(1) How do you think we should refer to this game? Elemental: Fallen Enchantress or just Fallen Enchantress? How about just Elemental? "Fallen Enchantress" is one of the worst names for a videogame since the mid 1990s. Try telling someone, out loud "yeah I'm playing Fallen Enchantress" without squirming.

Well, luckily, my post was never about "what players want". It was about how to achieve a state of "better game design". I do think that elegance is a universal trait of good design, and Elemental is anything but elegant.
>>If I'm reading you right, you want a 4x Fantasy game that has 1) no complexity and 2) no depth. See, this is where you guys have me completely wrong. I want complexity and depth, but a special kind of complexity and depth called "emergent complexity". I don't want there to be 100 spells; I want there to be less than 20 extremely rich and deep spells. Do you guys think the boardgame Go is like, softcore or something? It's got like, four
mqpiffle, I just want the game to be well-designed. Throwing a ton of content and mechanisms into a system is not good design. This isn't my opinion, either - this is the essence of design itself. In not just games, but in any medium, we should always strive for elegance: to accomplish what we set out to accomplish in as few strokes, words, bytes or whatever creative moves as we possibly can. I think there is a missing piece of your puzzl
You're right. Master of Magic has its own over-complexity problems, no doubt. I didn't mean to imply that MoM was some 4x perfection. It has plenty of its own problems.
Hi everyone. I have a big post today on Elemental, and I hope the developers will read it! To introduce myself: my name is Keith Burgun, and I'm the lead designer at Dinofarm Games . I recently wrote a book on game design (should be out in Sept), I write on the topic of game design for <a title="Articles I've written for Gamasutra" href="http://www.gamasutra.com/view/authors/647335/Ke
Okay, so, I just played it and I have to say, you guys were right. It really is massively improved. Honestly, it's the game I wanted 5 years ago when Elemental was announced. Of course, my standards have kind of increased since then, but whatever. It's fun, excited to play it more.
Glad to hear it, Chris! I'm downloading it now and I hope that I agree with your assessment.
Thanks guys.
Forgive me if this has been addressed elsewhere, but I couldn't find anyone talking about this... So, as we all know, Elemental was a monumental blunder of epic proportions. I was super psyched about it for like, 5 years, preordered YEARS in advance, and so it was pretty soul-crushing to see how bad it was. So now Stardock is working on "righting the wrongs" with Fallen Enchantress. That's great. But here's the thing. Does Stardock really
You already named your game "Fallen Enchantress"... it's a little late to be concerned about having good names for things. I love you guys, but that name is just awful, I can't say it to friends with a straight face.
"It’s a lot better than it was but it has a long way to go too." Okay, well... I'll check back again in another 3 months. Sucks that I can't play a game I bought for like a year after I bought it...
What a good post. I wanna be your friend.
Can I ask a really good question? WHY IS FULL CAMERA CONTROL IMPORTANT? Is StarCraft 2 hurt by not having "Full camera control"?
We have implemented an option for quick moves in tactical battles but it was not checked-in in time for this build. AHHHH THIS WAS ALL I WANTED *DIES* Good stuff, though, stardock. Keep at it.
I play with cloth map only on (since my computer was created before the year 2014 it cannot handle Elemental's graphics), and I went to the menu. I didn't change anything, but was hoping that with the update maybe they finally added quick move/attack in tactical battles (of course they did not), came back, and got THIS: http://i.imgur.com/8AFE0.jpg Only 8 more days until Civ V...
Stardock, please sneak this into 1.08! I'm excited to play but the battles are just so slow!!! They're honestly one of those things which makes me wonder if ANYONE played this game before release. Like, if you have 6 or 7 archer units, fighting against a big army, it seriously takes FOREVER and it shouldn't!
I can't believe this thread wasn't completely laughed off the boards and locked. Why not hot MALE armor? Sexists.
"I don't know about the rest of you, but I'm getting pretty tired of the Civilization series. It's starting to remind me of Madden:" If it werent for the fact that Civ 5 did away with stacks (MASSIVE CHANGE) and is on hex grids, I might agree.
ya. How about also a "fixed camera" mode, can't STAND messing with a camera in games. When I am fixing the camera it means that I am not playing the game and the developers didn't do their job and find a good view for me so I could just play. Honestly, the more I think about the combat the more I get angry because it's SO close to being awesome but like ten little things just drag it down.
The game needs a mode where animations are off and units just quickly zoom to their new positions when you move them in Tactical mode. Also have a setting where fights instantly resolve and the damage numbers fly out. You might think I'm being ADD or something but the fact is sitting and watching these animations of a guy walking 1 square of distance, multiplied by 1000 times is a shit-ton of wasted time. Also why is there no hotkey for next-unit? And
StarDock: thank you for NOT having "hot female army gear". Not all of us hate women.
Stardock! Sticky this thread already, be a man! =]
What a sad state of affairs. Anyway, I know that I will be happy once Elemental *is* fixed, however long that takes. Shit, I've waited for it this long, I can wait another year. I still prefer a company that has ambition and shit execution to most other big companies which are all execution and NO ambition, safe as hell God of War ripoff-factories.
