Well I'm willing to take the risk ;) Shoot for the moon guys! :D I think the important thing is that the devs don't get forced too rigidly into a set release date and really stick to only releasing the game when they're completely happy with it. Now that may mean extra months, quarters, maybe even years of beta testing and tweaking, but given that they're committed to that I say try to make something that's a spectacular step forward rather than an unremarkable yet solid game. It's been 15 ye

By the way guys if you try to view this thread with Firefox it cuts off halfway through NTJedi's post #39... IE (which I assume you're both using, as conversation continues) still works though :) So I guess you're talking slightly more in private than you were ealier :D ...oooo cosy ;)

The army would follow the caravan and in the case of ambush it would protect the merchants. I miss this feature in GC2.
I was thinking along the same lines. It'd need to be automated and simple to use (as otherwise there'd be a tendancy to manually attach guards to caravans - shadowing them around the map - wh
If you think about most fantasy worlds, there's really only a handful of major cities, with a smattering of smaller villiages throughout the countryside...even on the largets maps, I really never see you managing the 100+ colonies you could in late GC2 games. I could be wrong, but I feel that many settlements would break the spirit of the game.
Yay!
Oh yes, definattly. But who would get the spell? Would that just be one of those universal spells like "Awareness" in MoM? If so, I'd want an upgraded form of the spell go to some element specifically. (Like nature's awareness was the nature only upgrade to awareness in MoM) Perhaps the spell just shows the progress, but then there is "wispers of the wind" which lets you then also know where they are doing it. I can't think of a better name, but the idea is that everything would

It might be nice to have an "Eye of Sauron" type spell so that you can see how far along those pesky little hobbitses are to quest victory, and even information about how they're going about it (where they're travelling to etc) so that you can set about sabotaging them :D (at the cost of maintaining the spell obviously). Edit: Also SAVE GEOFF THE SLUG!!! [e digicons]\o/[/e]

From the Lore section of this very site: Of The Fallen When the powers strove for dominance before the cataclysm, some felt that men were too random and too unpredictable to be of use to them. Some of these powers selected men of cunning , brutality and might. They created an “improved” or “idealized” version of men that came to be known as the Fallen. ... So lets not think that t

I had in my head 100 years (between the cataclysm and the start of the game)... I cannot for the life of me remember if that's actually based on any information from anywhere or just something I got the wrong idea about months ago :)

Maybe it's akin to nuclear fallout.. I say this because the maps we've seen have been primarily filled with forest which doesn't really fit a lifeless "scorched earth" description of the cataclysm. However if we take the area surrounding Chernobyl as an example of an irradiated world we find some of the lushest wildlife on the planet and yet it's still not a place that any humans can safely live. That seems to me a model consistent with a need for chanellers to make most of the world livable

Yeah, but don't you think that having cheating as an option to increase AI difficulty stymies the motivation for developers to bother creating genuinely decent and hard to beat AIs? I mean if you're gonna give in to using cheats anyway why bother spending time on improving your current AI? Why wouldn't you just stick with your crappy AI at all levels and just add more and more cheats? It sure as hell would save time and development resources.
I agree with GW on this. There is no reason why Old Forests ala Princess Mononoke can't exist in Elemental. We know that dragons survived, and hell even people and all sorts of other creatures. Many died, and much of the world was made uninhabitable, but it would be perfectly believable for a forest full of power and magic to have survived the cataclysm intact.
Geoff's very tough!
I see a major problem with that. Games tend to be pretty horrible at judging military power. And they're especially bad in games that allow you to customize your forces. For example in GC2, I could utterly annihilate opponents with much higher military ratings. There are just way too many factors that enter into the equation: mobilization, mobility, tactical strategy, types of units, etc.
Yeah you have a point, I dunno how
I tend to agree, but would this idea be 'off' somehow in a single-player game because it could only apply to an AI win?
I'm not entirely sure what you mean GW.. I'd envisage it being a general necessary condition for anyone to win diplomatically, whether that be an AI player or one of us regular humans. If there's some problem with that which I'm not seeing then I'd be delighted for you to point it out to me :) <p

I tend to agree with the other posters here that you lost fair and square and that should be an end to it (given that you're playing those victory conditions) BUT I do also think that the OP raises an interesting issue as to the legitimacy of a diplomatic victory in cases like this. I can totally see the point that.. treating the game world as logically consistent and persistant, how is it a win to have every civ bar one allied with you if the civ left out has a military bigg

Awwww thanks! I too would like to thank Jonny! He is great! Hooooray [e digicons][/e] I hope it doesn't sound overly self important (which clearly it does, so apologies!) but my only slight worry about my Geoff based post is that the devs may never read it as it's kinda buried quite far in to the two threads where I posted it. I mean I know they've said before that they read everything..but they're only human and there's a LOT of stuff generated on this forum.

Wasn't Just Cause just a hero recruitment booster (by way of upping your fame, I mean I think that's all fame did) along with a bonus of knocking one unrest off all your cities, while Aura of Majesty specifically boosted your relationships with other wizards? I THINK that was the case, and I think that's probably why punxzen brought it up seeing as you mentioned you wanted it to do more for diplomacy (as previously I don't remember it doing anything) ;)

Armageddon from MoM was my favourite! Ripping the world to pieces while simultaneously increasing my own power was soooo much fun ... also you needed all the power you could get when people became (understandably) quite quite mad! An idea I had for a fun powerful end of game spell in Elemental would be some sort of Hell Gate , Hell Rift , sort of spell where you pick somewhere on the map to place it (ideally in the heart of enemy terriorty and miles away from any of your troops) and a
I hope you are right, but believe you are incorrect. It says you will be able to create new factions. I would take that to mean that you can go in and fiddle with the racial statisitics like you can in GalCiv2. I am betting that you are stuck with the racial graphics of Men or the Fallen - again I hope I am wrong on this and you can add completely new races and have the tools to create new graphics and add orcs, dwarves, whatever.
From Brad in another forum: [qu
