~clip @Jonny: good to see you around some again. I'm one of those net-ancients who seriously believes that this 'thread necromancy' stuff is totally in the eye of the beholder. Maybe it's just my past life as a scholar, but I think of a forum like this as a steadily growing archive-discussion. Good discussions can take months or years, so as long as a poster isn't trying to open a new Dead Horse Buffet, I see no shame in droppin

Very good question, and right-on call to reference the Wild Spaces thread.
I was wondering that when I was reading the "how do you rank in the community" thread. Just because he used to be very common, but not as much recently. (he was missing from a lot of the "top 24" lists, and I thought "huh, if this had been 3 months ago I bet he'd be o
Wow, that's the first genuinely impressive screenshot I've seen where I can honestly say if the game comes out looking like that I'll be totally happy with it. I've always been a fan of the way the art direction for the game was going, but up until now it really hadn't clicked and was just a hatful of potential. If it had stayed as it was looking up to this point (which was really never going to happen given how early we are in developments..but just humour me :P) the visuals would have been

Fortunatly I found another cave not too far from that one. Bit damp, but it'll do. here, there is a RATHER different cave if one of you wants to occupy it.
Ooow good job Landi! Good to have that i
Hello! So I finally got round to pre-ordering.. I figured it was close enough now.. I mean unless the exchange rate like qudruples the price in a month I'm still gonna want in on the beta, and I figured this way there'd be no chance of me falling asleep and missing out :D I too wonder how many preorders SD have got for Elemental so far and how well whatever number it is relates to their targets (if they have such things). I also wonder if they did any specific market research before e

I've got to say i'm pretty shocked that Landi, Spartan, Luckmann, GW and Pigeonx2 aren't in.. I mean you can call a RNG selection fair.. but how fair is it that their unceasing and constantly top quality contribution to the forums have gone overlooked? Is there any doubt that they would have busted their behinds to be as productive as humanly possible in the alpha given how much time they've already spent generating ideas for the game? Personally it strikes me as a bit of a missed opportunity
Chalk me down as one of the many in the YES camp for the longer beta period. I've got insanely high expectations for this game and you'll need all the time and beta tester power you can to stand a chance of meeting them :D That said, as others have pointed out beforehand, it's probably not a surprise that you get an incredibly postiive repsonse to this question on these forums.. I mean the vast majority of people interseted at this stage in develompent (and thus reading the dev journa
In this UI, the player has researched the ability to research 3 things at once (no penalty). It seems to me like it should be the other way around. There should be penalties for focusing on only one research item. It makes sense from a logical perspective - adding more people to a project has diminishing returns. If a nation put all of its resources into researching a single thing then yes, it would go faster, but there
Yeah, The Spell of Mastery always struck me as a little bit too on the nose :) I prefer The Spell of Making as it's slightly more obtuse and esoteric :D
I've always found the 'word' "FAQ" funny, since everyone pronounces it either "fag" or "fake".
I had no idea people pronounced it that way! I've always just pronounced it like fact but without the t :) @Landi Yeah I have been playing an awful lot of competitive TF2 with my clan and haven't had that much time to devote to trolling the forum :) There was a point where I think I'd basically read every single post of every single thread on here :O ... I agree with GW, as is so often the case! So long at the game is as good as it needs to be to fulfil my expectations I can pretty much wait indefiniitely for it to come out (as we've said in the past; it's been 15 odd years waiting for a successor to MoM... a few added months aren't gonna kills us :) ). The worst case for me would have been if the problems with Demigod had led to several months worth of work on Elemental not happening as planned with the game coming out on the original seched
Wow.. this thread has become terrifyingly big :O I have only read the first 2 pages and I am now overly daunted!
Thanks for the link Wahngrok it was a fun listen :)
Oh hey! Nox! That game was awesome :D ... and those are some good examples of how to diferentiate direct damage spells while keeping them all viable in certain situations! Obviously they're not directly applicable to a TBS (where aim for instance will never be a problem).. but I'm sure there must be some similar mechanics the devs could come up with :)
Quoting Jonny5446, reply 9... obviously the more complexity involved the harder it will be for the random map generator to come up with reasonable looking maps (I mean you don't really want one spot of rainforest in the middle of a grassy plain)... But what about things like the Ancient Power of Geoff the Slug maintaining a modest few tiles of swamp in the middle of a large post-cataclysm desert? I'm kind of hoping to see
Nice list Ntjedi! I'm pretty much behind tile types being as varied as possible.. obviously the more complexity involved the harder it will be for the random map generator to come up with reasonable looking maps (I mean you don't really want one spot of rainforest in the middle of a grassy plain), but I have faith the devs can do it :D Even if they can't, as Ntjedi says, I certainly could see how a tile such as the unpassable mountainpeak would be invaluable to map makers so I think there'd b

Discworld anyone?
