If there's some disparity between the elemental schools when it comes to causing/curing disease that might lead to some interesting diplomatic interaction, e.g. requesting that someone cure your dieing populace of plague. This could lead to some fun evil extortion opportunities if you were being asked to help and you were their only option [e digicons]}:)[/e] Although obviously this disadvantage for those that couldn't cure diseases would have to be balanced out in some other area or

All really good ideas guys! Another I'd like to add, which I saw someone mention in another thread (so the credit goes to you whoever you are!), is the need for symmetry between the AI's diplomatic options and the players. A specific example of this is the ability to threaten people who are doing something you don't like. In a lot of games, say if you've got a non-aggression pact with someone and you need one of your units to take a shortcut over their land, the AI will immediately st

Ahhh right, I see what you mean. On a point of pedantry it seems unlikely that outside of custom content you'd actually be creating "Troll" units using the unit creation mechanism given that the only races in the game are Human and Fallen, unless you happened to call some spear carrying men "Trolls" or something similar, but that would be insane! I'm not sure whether there'll be that level of unit variation when it comes to summoning creatures but I suppose it's not inconceivable... T
segallion Also, could this possibly cause problems with strategy? Again several Troll creatures created out there, but are vastly different, but require the same possible materials. I see my opponent gearing up those materials and I then try to help my side out by compensating for that. To my horror
The 'minorness' of the minors has often seemed a weakness to me when I think about sci-fi stories like the Organians in Star Trek. Yay! Thanks guys :D I mean these little natural kingdoms (of which one can imagine swamps, forests, deserts all working in a similar way to how I've described) I think would work best in consort with more mundane wild space which is just either economically unproductive or has wild beasts living in it (with them spawning and attacking much as in Geoff's kingdom). That way over time the regular wild space could potentially (although not necessarily)be gradually eroded away as it was settled, t

Hi everyone, this is a post I also put up in the Independent Kingdoms thread, located: https://forums.elementalgame.com/334666 which I thought might also be relevant here, hope it's not too boring :) If I may I'd like to just speculate about how one of these little "natural kingdoms" that have been suggested might work in practice as I think I've got a decent set up that I'd enjoy playing. For my example I'd like to u
I just wanted to point out that I don't think there is a way to stop the wall-ta-wall carpeting, just delay it.
I think that all depends on how big a cost versus potential return you give the act of settling in these regions. I think it would be totally possible to still have it being not worth your while to do so even by the end of the game.. it's just a case of whether players would accept not being able to tessellate the entire map with McCities or not (clearly some

I really liked how SMAC did it, which is pretty much as you described (assuming I'm understanding you correctly) landi as being mostly hardcoded. You could choose a bunch of different civics for different categories (government type, culture type, economy type etc I forget the precise names) altering productivity, environmental impact of production, police power etc but you'd have certain choices ruled out or in depending on your faction choice. For instance the dictatorial hive mind chappies
