I could very easily be wrong here but from a screenshot I saw awhile back I believe that when attacking cities combat will take place on dedicated tactical maps set outside of city walls, ie you can see the walls in the background. I don't know why they don't have the maps feature some defensive terrain like some non-destructible walls and stat boosting fortification tiles to place archers or gate guardians on. It wouldn't require any new features but would add a lot more
[quote who="Cruxador" reply="52" id="3048111"]Those restrictions on treaties sound artificial and frustrating. Frogboys statement doesn't mean necessarily mean that the AIs always team up against humans, just that they will actually form alliances with other players and work together against any player who threatens them as a team. Thus having the highest faction power doesn't guarantee victory. In WoM you could just amass an army and take out each AI one at a time. Now they might be smart enough to realize that in order to defeat one warmonger they should band together or even f

I don't think they will be removing the existing ability to trade resources, since metal is so important that would be weird. I believe what he means in general is that you won't be able to do complex trades involving citie
Anyway thanks for responding Frogboy. I appreciate it. .
I admit to no real knowledge of AI programming but maybe the problem is in the weighting of the power of sovereigns and champions. I imagine magic is hard for AIs to calculate for and predict. With the sovereigns and champions being as powerful as they are the AI is effectively splitting its army if it doesn't have them together, so why is it doing that? Perhaps when defending against other players the AI needs to play it safer by checking to see if there are possible reinforcemen
Why is the AI sovereign almost never with his army? You seem to win most the time because you kill his army and sovereign separately.
Wow thanks.
[quote who="Frogboy" reply="37" id="3046130"](and before anyone ask, no, I'm not going to screw around with resource trading or tech trading, it ain't happening, it's a black hole that could be spent on lots of interesting diplomacy stuff and smarter AI overall). Having lots of different treaties in the game will give players an incentive to be on good terms with other players as well as allow other players to effectively gang up on whoever they consider a huge threat.[
I don't think giving the AI traits would work very well. It would homogenize all the teams. Instead a blanket resource multiplier or starting bonus would work better. Giving the AI a good starting location could work but you would still have to watch out that the bonus is not always the same, ie a gold mine. Giving them a extra random resource tile, or a boost to food could work. A hidden combat multiplier or ability to redo/undo combat in PvE would also work very well I t
I also much prefer more hidden bonuses like a resource boost to higher level AIs over a hp advantage.
Thanks for the great journal!

Ya I don't think we have any chance of seeing the beta until after Christmas either, but I hope we get it as soon as possible after the holidays.
I just hope all these sneak peaks don't mean that the beta won't be out until mid January or something. I just finished my exams and now is when I have the free time to play. Plus I really want to get back into modding, I have built up quite a few cool ideas over my break from Elemental.
The TN final episodes had some good moments and a good overall plot but they where full of plot holes, cliches , and unrealistic decisions that tarnished the show. Seriously people in the future must be pretty suicidal/stupid.
Thanks for the info. I have wanted to get into this sort of stuff for some time.
Exact opposite for me, I grew up on Warcraft. Which is why I won't ever play WoW. They don't so much disrespect the lore as piss on its grave and molest its wife and children. Not an exaggeration, even W3 was a pretty big departure from the first two. In Civilizations I to IV there is one huge issue: the stack of doom and it's consequences (almost no tactics at all). I know two ways to overcome it: (1) one unit per tile (Jon Shafer ), (2) tactical mini-game. The first option puts tactics on the world map, the second puts tactics on a mini-map.
