The key to making the world of FE come alive are, in my opinion, the actors. Ignoring the neutrals for now, both the player and the opposing factions are composed out of the following distinct actors: * The Sovereign * Heroes * Armies * Cities I'm not playing the current beta. But from what I can tell from other people's posts, enough is being done to make the sovereign, heroes, and armies fun to play with (even if the differences between the heroes and the so
Can I get a show of support or opposition for some of the other suggestions: - Solo champions shouldn't be able to conquer cities, and should be able to enter neutral territory
Might work, on the other hand, if I can create a group of heroes powerful enough to take a properly defended city, why not?
- You shouldn't be able to see the troops in a city out of visual range
<p
I think that would be a big mistake. This game already has quite a number of features that, while well intended or unavoidable as they might be, add to the gamey feel and lessen immersion. Making roads non-functional if you are not on friendly terms with the owner is just weird. Sieges on the other hand make sense, and the effect is basically the same; increasing the time between crossing the border and conquering the city so the AI or player has time to respond. That being said, I wo
What do you mean? As far as I can remember it worked just fine. Only slightly weird thing was that a single battering ram could conquer an undefended town.. This game really needs proper siege mechanics, with actual walls on the battle map. But since that's not an option apparently, here's what I think should be done: 1) Add siege mechanics somewhat similar to the Total War games. If we can't have actual siege battles, at least this should somewhat compensate. So a
That's not what I meant DrJBHL, and I'm pretty sure you know that. What I meant is that in spite off the 'billions of lost revenue due to piracy', the movie, music, and gaming industries are booming.
Pirates first buy the tickets, then pirate the work. No.
No indeed, often it's the other way round. [quote who="Jafo" reply="1
That is all... (and yes I know we're not talking about movies right now, same deal though)
You know what else you could try; save the game, exit, edit the saved game, delete all enemy units, load the game, CRUSH the enemy. The AI will never see it comming. Stupid AI.
What, an old guy waving a stick around doesn't do it for you?
There are gas giants (methane types and hydrogen types that I've seen), although in the few games I've played they're not the norm and far down the line of planet colonizing. They do give you tons of cash though. Each planet also has a chance of getting a moon, I'd say about ~33% of planets have them. They're special in the fact that once you research a somewhat low level technology you can do a "s
Does anyone know what types of planets there are? I've seen quite a few rocky planets of different types, and an asteroid belt in one of the video's above, but what about gas giants? Doesn't seem right if these are ignored, just because the can't be settled doesn't mean they aren't full of useful resources. Or moons? Oh, and is combat only between capital ships? Or are there smaller ships, like fighters and shuttles? As the game appears to be mod-
I'll grant you that your screenshot looks quite pretty, but to me it's an exception. Imo, about 95% of the screenshots I see are butt-ugly. Not talking about the graphics here, they are fine. I just don't like the sprawling, cities taking over the landscape while at the same time almost screaming 'look at me, I'm not a proper city, there are only 26 distinct buildings in me while at the same time I'm occupying more space than an average mountain range'. Besides, it
Looks very interesting, will keep an eye on this one. Thanks for sharing!
I read 13 episodes, but still; great news!
I'm glad they returned to finish this storyline after last weeks 'preview(?)'.

Also, I think Lincoln is going to be pretty disappointed with his choice in universes..
Bloody hell. WTF did I just watch? Not that I didn't like it, it's a very good episode. I just hope they get a season 5, because I don't see how they will be able to provide a satisfying resolution to the loads of unanswered questions and open stories in the remaining three episodes. Unless they don't try of course..
Looking good guys [e digicons][/e] Though I have some time to kill this weekend, I don't mind waiting another week. Most of the changes look very promising, will be fun to try them. I do share the concerns some before me have voiced; the disappearing empires once they have been defeated/surrendered. It's just a really weird feature, whole civilizations going poof just because one guy gets killed or joins a stronger faction. I really hope this will be looked at befor
Hey, nice to see you again. Though I'm not entirely convinced FE will be a game so great I'll be playing it for years, some of the announced changes realy got my hopes up (did you see what they have planned for city building?). Let's hope the next beta is good enough to draw some more old posters back in..
One tile equals over 100 square miles of land. Never seen a city from the old country get much bigger than this.
And that, together with Frogboy's list in the OP, should be the end of this discussion.
I really hope you'll stick with the 1-tile cities. The proposed expansion tile that would indicate the cities specialization would be nice, or even gaining one tile every time the city levels. Both options allow you to make a clear visual distinction between different cities and city levels, and allow you to influence the shape somewhat. Which I'll grant can be pleasing aesthetically, and offers some strategy options. But only in moderation, expanding a level 2 town into hadrian's
With single tile cities it will be impossible to include any resources within the city walls. You will have no choice or strategic decision, everything must be vulnerable.
There has been no statement on whether resource tiles will be included in the city limits if it is next to the city hub. For me it depends a bit on what resource it is, but I wouldn't mind terribly if they could be included. [quo
I think the problem is that we are talking past one another. I understand your issues with the scale, and I too think the world should be vast and wild. But I believe it should also be conquerable. Reestablishing your empire and pacifying the world is kinda the whole point of the game, after all.
We're not so far apart then. I wouldn't mind if a large part of the world becomes civilized by late
I'm very happy with this change obviously, I've been arguing for something like it ever since FE was announced. Honestly I had given up hope that citybuilding mechanics would change significantly, so this is just wonderful.
i enjoy it myself. however the only legitimate reason to do away with the on map city building is because it takes you away from the strategy game proper. making you enter a seperate screen in which y
A bait and switch, are you serious? Unless this game was sold catering specifically to the homophobe crowd, promising that no matter what, homosexuality would never be in any way included (unless maybe one of the antagonists, just one more reason to dislike them right?), you have no case. Keep dreaming.
Sweeeeeeeeeeet! [e digicons]:w00t:[/e] I've been hoping there would be a significant change in the city building mechanics, but I was beginning to doubt anything would be done about it. Thank you for restoring some of my hopes for this game!
That had better not be a joke [e digicons]}:)[/e]
Me too!
