Thanks for clarifying, those are some good points. I think I'll wait a while before I try this game, give the devs some time to expand things a bit.

The graphics felt quite poor, although I have to respect them giving a lot of options to customize things. ...
I haven't played it so I can't comment on the gameplay, but I've read similar comments about the game being very linear (though the story is supposed to be good). But why do you say the graphics feel quite poor? From what I've seen in screenshots and videos the painted environments look quite ni
I know what you mean, I had the same thing with the Age of Wonders III announcement video. The chime at 1:28 brought me right back to the Valley of Wonders.
Printing bones has been done. I think one of the first times was about 2 years ago here in the Netherlands, where they replaced a large part of someones skull. I can't find that article right now, but apparently someone in the US had 75% of his skull replaced with a 3d printed implant recently.
I think it will be a while before more than a few enthusiasts will have machines like this at home. But I do think that in the near future you will start seeing little print shops pop up where you could just walk in with your file, hire a printer for a few hours, and walk out with your object. There is a company near where I live that prints and delivers designs that you send them, but a walk-in shop would have a lower threshold I think.
Saw it two days ago, it was awesome! A few small inconsistencies (I think, taking what I remember from the rather average IM2 into account), and a rather pointless gesture at the end, but overall a great movie.
I can recommend Arrow; lots of action, intriguing main plot, nice enough characters. It's still in it's first season, and I've had a blast so far. It is based on a DC Comic, Green Arrow, but I didn't know that when I started watching. I only found out after I noticed some similarities with Batman and Spiderman and started wondering if they based the show on those characters.
I whiped up some screenshots of what a game like that could look like. They're a little rough, but I think it looks pretty nice! <img src="http://image.gamespotcdn.net/gamespot/images/2010/040/reviews/9
I love this SimCity and it's release. It's like a beautiful soap opera; every day when I get home there's a new installment full with 'Called it's and 'Oh no they didn't's waiting for me. I'm just so glad I didn't buy it, I'll stick to SC4 for the time being.
Definitely Alpha Centauri. It might not have aged very well (does anyone still play it), but the combination of a good TBS, the setting, and the (philosophical) background information makes it the standard to beat in my opinion. I've plugged it often enough I think, but for the fans; check out the Planetfall mod for CIV. It really captures the atmosphere while at the same time updating the gameplay.
No one forced you to buy that game. There are demos I believe, so you could have checked to see if it lived up to your high standards. But really, complaining about an AI that actually treats you like an ally when you form an alliance with them? That might have been an error by the dev's. In that case you found an exploit; huzzah! But it might just have been intentional, so that when you form an alliance that AI will focus on fighting your enemies , rather than defending i
I hadn't read up on LH yet when I posted. I agree that LH looks pretty good, so who knows, maybe we'll have two good fantasy tbs games by the end of the year. But the Elemental franchise still has a long way to go, because (based on the previous games and a few bits of information on the site) AoW3 will have: A large number of races that differ both in appearance and play style. Different environments (that might do more than just be aesthetically pleasing)</l
Oh yes, it's on! Age of Wonders 3 has been officially announced, and it's coming THIS year! It's so beautiful, almost brought a tear to my eye [e digicons][/e] But they could have just shown the last 20 seconds for all I care, the tune at 1:28 brought me right back to when I first played AoW, almost 14 years ago. The main new feature seems to be the class system for your leader. Your leader is
I'm currently going to watch every Star Trek episode from every series. For some reason I am starting with Voyager. I watched the first few season when it was originally aired, but I think I then went to college and missed the rest. I'm re-watching them now and they are surprisingly good, I figured they would be the worst of them all, but I'm into the third season and really enjoying mys
Oh it's going to be fully 3D? I hope they'll be able to maintain the gorgeous atmosphere the previous games had. Then again, they have plenty of experience with 3D, the Overlord games look great imo.
I had a great time with both the original and sm, only playing sp. Perhaps the AI wasn't very good, but there are some awesome scenarios available that make you forget this is even issue..
And if you decide to work on something new; Lord Xia's description sounds absolutely awesome. A game like that in a fantasy setting would be something you could play for ages. For the tactical combat, I would love to see a turn based we-go system, like you have in xcom I think, where you and you opponent give orders at the start of each turn, and those are carried out simultaneously.
I voted to keep evolving FE, but to be honest if there was an 'all/none of the above, I don't really care' option I would have picked that. I've been following the development of this game ever since I first heard about it somewhere in 2008. I stuck around after the EWoM fiasco because the game definitely had potential, and FE seemed to be living up this. Sadly, after about 1,5 years of further development I would have to rate FE about the same as EWoM; lots of potential, but
I restarted the campaign on 'competent' difficulty. I thought about trying expert, but I hear the fights against other lords become quickly become incredibly difficult. I've conquered two tiny shards so far, and the early game is much more challenging. Money is tight, and even the early fights against neutrals aren't trivial. The local lords put up more of a fight, so you need to pay attention to your defences. But by the time you get a lvl 10 warrior you can still steamroll t
I believe you get to choose a difficulty level each time you attack a new shard.
I did get to choose when attacking the first one, but not on the later shards. Anyone else have an idea? I really don't want to play the entire campaign against a handicapped AI. Or does the difficulty increase on its own? I started on a new shard to see if I could choose, which I couldn't, but now one of my two opponents is sh
Thanks for the tips! One more question though, is it possible to change the difficulty of the campaign once started? I've outgrown beginner, and now the game is more about mopping up rather than fighting a war. I've tried adjusting the difficulty in the main screen, but that doesn't seem to have any effect when I load the campaign...
I started playing Genesis a few days ago, and I'm loving it! The early game is especially good, where I really have to weigh my options every turn. And it's quite challenging; I'm only in my third game in the campaign, and if I win this one I might consider bumping the difficulty up a step from beginner. And there is still a lot of content I haven't seen yet! A few points of criticism though: In my earlier post I pointed out that the map looks a bit cluttered, with tow
Congratulations!
I agree with Heavenfall, despite all the talk about supporting modding, I see very little evidence of it actually happening. Has there ever been a dev comment in a modder's request thread, either for WoM or FE? Never mind having one of those requests fulfilled. Maybe they'll get to it after the first expansion (is that really being released in January? Seems awfully fast, 3 months after FE's release), but I'll believe it when I see it..
4, I hate snaking, and the insta-roads are awful. Surprisingly, even though we couldn't be apart in our feelings about snaking, I agree with GFireflyE about how to handle roads. Make 'build road to...' an option in the city building screen, and then enter it in the city queue.
