I guess this is in part a response to our discussion yesterday. I can imagine it's annoying having to read spoilers about stuff you would like to see/read/do yourself. But that is part of your job isn't it?
Mostly it's just people that want to discuss the whole thing with each other combined with the fact that the world doesn't revolve around you.
A little harsh, but I agree. If you just want so

Oh come on, those aren't spoilers. The
main character returning
, that's as big of a spoiler as saying people get shot, shit gets blown up, aliens are acting weird, and the Mason family has trust issues [e digicons]:P[/e] Besides, I did warn them [e digicons]O:)[/e] Anyway, what I was pointing out was that (slight spoilers ahead)
the 1000km trip from Michigan to Boston was rather uneventful, and Mason finding the group 300km further was just way to

Don't read beyond this if you haven't seen the premiere yet. Just saw both episodes. I thought they were pretty good, was really glad it's a double episode, wanted MOAR after the first. [spoilers removed -admin] Anyway, other than that I liked it. The graphics seem to be a bit better, the group hasn't been sitting still waiting for Mason's return, and to me it seems like they are backing away from the 'skitters are our kids' revelation that

I agree that trade is in a bit of a sad state at the moment. I hope it's one of the things that gets looked at for the next beta, that should be all about civilization building. Which is a large part of this game imo, contrary to what some posters above said. It's not just a wargame with some rpg elements. I like your Tradegoods idea. It could be a higher risk alternative to taxation to raise money. So you could either raise tax and lower production, or you could lower taxes,

Jafo, I joined these forums because I bought a Stardock product, as did most people here I believe. I stay because I find the staff and community friendly. Now, you provide these forums as a service to your customers, and because it´s a resource to you (meaning Stardock is better off having these forums than if it didn't). So of course it's free, or technically paid for by the products we've already bought. The fact that the ads are targeted specifically at customer

Advertising is always unsolicited. It's only purpose is to create a 'want' that didn't exist before. Besides, how effective are they anyway? They are ads for Stardock products. Who use these forums and get to see them? Stardock customers, who already know these products exist. Seeing an ad for them won't make me want to buy them more, it will annoy me though. But fortunately, Adblock saves the day once again.

I've been using Adblock plus ever since I switched to firefox, makes such a big difference. Once in a while an ad slips through, but I hardly see any. It's always a bit of a shock when I use my parent's or my girlfriend's computer, there is just so much crap everywhere. The more I learn about how our economy works, the more I see what's wrong with it. The pervasiveness of ads is just one of the symptoms. A pro-sustainability group here did a nice little stu
SETI is an outdated money sink pork program, one of a great many. The times are changing. We can't continue to afford spending like this in an unsustainable manner. Sure removing one straw won't appear to effect the haystack but try to look on the bright side. The more we cut, then the more we can redirect to the next generation SETI like program in the future. A former NASA director once said: "If t
Being against SETI is not the same as being against galactic exploration. There are projects that try to map the galaxy and beyond... those are admirable.
So mapping the galaxy is worth the time and money, but checking to see if there is anyone else at those places you map, no matter how slim the odds, isn't? Right. Anyway, don't let the door hit... well you know the rest. It would be a damn shame if SETI had

Looks very interesting, I'll be sure to try the demo when it is released. There are a few things I'm not entirely sure I'll like though: First, the strategic map seems a bit cluttered, with buildings just about everywhere. Maybe the mechanics behind it are ok, no way to tell atm, but a Civ4-like covering of every tile with an improvement usually ruins the 'fantasy world feeling' for me. Second, I don't like the look of the battles, with a handful of guys faci
... If you have some mid-tier wildlands that needs clearing before you can settle, then you wouldn't be able to settle it with pioneer spam, and the really tough wildlands would only be settled late game. So the world basically breaks into "starting zones" with maybe 1 guaranteed expansions, and tons of wildlands of varying difficulty....
Isn't that what monster lairs are right now, mini wildlands? I agree the spamming of cities and outposts isn't fun. It turns the (early) game into a frantic land grab rather than a phase of exploration and careful development of your starting area. To me, the three game phases should play out roughly as follows: Early game: Exploration of part of the map, clearing nearby monster lairs that aren't too tough, possibly some skirmishes with nearby opponent over valuable resource or because of different alignment, development of you cap

I agree that would be nice, but the dev´s have confirmed on several occasions it is never going to happen for FE. The engine is not capable of handling it, or the AI couldn't handle it, or both, I'm not sure. It might be looked at for an expansion, or more likely a sequel if it is ever made. I disagree it would be cumbersome. It gives the AI an opportunity to put up a real fight. Taking a town would take more than
+ Units don't get additional movement from roads in enemy territory
I'm a bit saddened by this, taking the easy way out to fix a problem and throwing out common sense and realism. I know it can't be done as easily as removing the movement bonus, but could you take a look at the siege system proposed here and other threads?

153 Replies 548,478 Views

That's why I'm for something like the Total War system; when you besiege a city you start building siege weapons with your troops. The time it takes should depend on the attacking force's technology level, the besieged cities wall level, and traits that units and commanders on both sides have. Spells could also factor into this.

20 Replies 20,934 Views

Well, that's more of an argument against automatic road placement than against the potential downsides. Besides, I thought people around here generally want more meaningful choices? If there is not even one small potential downside, building roads has become another no-brainer, the only choice becoming when to research the tech, rather than if .

Like I said in Sethai's thread, I think that would be an awful idea. Yet another small nod to realism sacrificed in the hope that the AI will have a slightly easier time playing the game. Implement the siege times, it has pretty much the same effect, and the added benefit of being somewhat realistic. As for the state of development; the entire city building mechanics will be overhauled next beta. Adding actual siege battles would be too much to ask, but I'm pretty sure a scrip

Two books that I've realy enjoyed are 'The Lies of Locke Lamora' and 'Red Seas Under Red Skies', by Scott Lynch. They are the first two books in a series that should eventualy have seven volumes. Book three is due this fall, can't wait! Or if you are looking for something a bit different, try the Dresden Files series by Jim Butcher. They're a bit lighter reading, but a lot of fun. And the slowly developing plot that is woven through all the books is quite i
