Note: Repost for a new page, minus the bitchyness ;) . To see the list of Quotes please see the reply on the previous page. Quoting Frogboy, Controlling the length of a tactical battle. We believe that users should have a lot of control over how in depth they want their battles to be. Should a tactical battle finish in less than a minute or should they last 2 hours? How do we make it so that players can control this? Before that&nb
Way to break the thread display Raven. I do want to comment on one thing specifically you said. I can tell you this though...this is NOT a Real Beta. If it was each and every One of Us would have the Internal Alpha of the game. This grand experiment of Stardock's to work with the community is nothing more then a over-blown marketing ploy. Want proof? How come we aren't talking about balancing? I mean S

Before you read the part of this I wrote, please understand I have the HIGHEST Respect for Frogboy, the Entire Stardock Team, and I am NOT " Calling them out " in Any Way-shape-or form. The end of my post may come off as rude or challenging and I DO NOT mean it to sound that way. I apologize in advanced if it comes off that way. Frogboy, here is a Massive List of Quotes from this thread. I spent over a hour copying them
I might be misunderstanding, but to me that's exactly what the "randomization" option sounds like - it generates a tactical map based on the actual strategic map where the battle takes place. You make it sound like these tactical maps should be pre-generated when the world map is created, Brad makes it sound like they're generated at the time of battle, which is a big difference from a coding perspective, but from the player perspective it s

Answer these, or at least think about that. It's Early to early-mid game. It takes you 20 Turns

Quoting Frogboy: WINNER. TAKE. ALL. This is the part where we want to hear your opinions. We do ask that you keep an open mind on what we ultimately go with. My opinion is that the attacking player has the onus to finish the battle in N turns. After N turns, the attacker morale starts to go lower and lower at which point the defender can come out and make mince meat out of them. The question is, what should determine what N is? Or should we allow ret

I would LOVE to see Formations used in Elemental. Imagine being able to choose between a Wedge or a Line for your Calvary charge. Have your men form a Square or Break Ranks to avoid a charge. Imagine a incoming Fireball heading at your group of Lightning Archers so you command them to " Scatter ". Formations can have a wide range of use and Add a Lot of Strategic Depth
I don't always want a unit to be only one troop type. I might want to make a unit of different troop types and have them arrange themselves not only in various formations but also various configurations (spearmen to the fore, swordsmen behind them and archers to the rear). IIRC the old AoE2 did this. It's a lot simpler to control one unit of this type than 3 units of individual types and can be more logical. Configur

Simply pick any one Company member, you get the company etc. If you were to have 10-20 combined Companies or Platoon strewn across the battlefield and need to move ALL of them quickly, simply select your pre generated Ctrl Group #3, and they ALL highlight and off you go. I do like the split idea too...
I would think t

As we know Elemental will allow the player to control a small army or unit of 4 or 5 men, to vast armies numbering in the tens of thousands. Since they've talked about a hybrid X-Com style type of combat I was thinking about how this will expand when it comes down to large armies. I had a interesting thought. Here's some "Hypothetical" examples. 1. If we have a small army of 10 men, allow us to control all 10 individually if we want. 2. When you have 100 men all

Essence definitely needs a re-tooling. Things should cost less Essence and there should be more ways then just leveling up to gain Essence. Fully agree. As for how to implement that in actual game-play, I'll leave the details to Stardock.
Dragon Age: Origins used a similar system (I think, haven't played much of the other games you mentioned). It works pretty well. Since the engine is real time already, would it be possible to implement both modes? Ie in continuous turn or RTS mode things play at full speed and you can pause at will, or in TBS mode the pauses are automatic, and once you give your orders the game unpauses for say 10 seconds before auto pausing until e

I'm worried that the promised grandeur of tactical combats will be lost by going to turn based combat. I've probably spent a full year's time worth of my life playing games with turn-based tactical combat, and I can't recall a single situation where I've thought "Ohh I can't wait to watch this battle!" I'm very excited, very excited Indeed!!! This all sounds wonderful. Turn Based combat sounds amazing. It would have been nice to have the option of real time or "pause when I want-give orders" though like X-Com Apocalypse. I love turn based too though so you won't get any complaints here. I'm happy as hell that we have battles We Control as I thought that was the only thing really lacking in Gal Civ 2. For the next strategy title you do, think along this line... Have the Strat
