So I noticed a few funny things while I was going through the file structure of Elemental. It's obvious there are some Tolkien fans on the Elemental team. It looks like there are some Star Trek fans in there too somewhere from some of the sound effects I found :). TolkienMap_EdgeDetect.fx temp_Tachyon temp_TachyonBeam Those two sound effects are ripped straight from Star Trek TNG by the sounds of them when you listen to them. Note: I'm talking about how
As for magical dmg types [ice/fire/shadow/etc] & resistances/immunities....they must be implemented or the combat system will be dumbed down/primitive....
I agree %100. You simply can't have a game like this and Not include them. IMO it would be tantamount to suicide for a game that relies heavily on Magic for combat.
"main theme behind this post was just to point out that even mundane things can be made fun with proper UI application" I cannot help but DISAGREE with this idea. No matter how fun you made an UI, doing mundane task (with a fun UI) is NO fun when you've to repeat it 500 times. I've written something rgds to reducing micromanagement a while back. Maybe I should necro-post it, if I find it.
Well
Ok. Win 7 installed pretty easy actually. It even auto-detected my internet and network settings without me having to manually configure them. I'm still getting used to the interface. It's slick, but I'm still not sure how much I like it. Most likely that's because I'm so used to the old school system that's been in place since 95. I like a lot of the new functions Win 7 has. I'm still re-installing apps and most likely will be most of the night. I don't like that it moved (seems like it hid
hmm ... well by the time the game comes out I will probably start looking for a new OS anyways .... is XP-64 better than Vista-64 like I would guess?
I would say XP 64 still runs better then Vista 64 but it's mostly a matter of opinion. With a new OS though go with Win 64. Sadly they don't support XP 64 anymore which was another big factor in my latest upgrade.
Is windows 7

I'm installing now. I'll post mine either in a few hours or tomorrow :)

When I make backups normally I burn them to Dual Layer DvD's or to blank Blu Ray disks.

Not to mention 3DsMax, Maya 3d, AutoCad, my programming guide to MEL and C++ API, Adobe Photoshop CS4, Dreamweaver, Hex Workshop, numerous Burning and Imaging tools, tons of .ISO and .Rar files, important documents for my Modding works in progress, movies, my entire CD collection ripp

It should handle DX11 when it comes out. I think yours will too. I could be wrong about that but I'm pretty sure both our cards will.
I just got back from going shopping and then out to dinner with the wife and while I was out I picked up a copy of Windows 7 Professional ($299.99). I wanted Ultimate but they didn't have any in stock anywhere and I didn't want to wait to order one online so I got this one. The only two things "Supposedly" that Ultimate has that Professional doesn't is a encryption tool called Bitlocker and some extra languages. Over the course of tomorrow I'll be installing it and doing some upgrades

So, any word on the stability issues? The hotfix that was put out didn't do anything that I could tell to fix stability.

I found a conflicting report between what I was told here on the forums by a Stardock member (can't remember who just now, sorry) and by what the Elemental Pre Order page says. The page says Elemental will be supported on: Windows XP (Native 64-bit will be available) Windows Vista (Native 64-bit will be available) I was told on here however it would not be "officially" supported on XP Pro 64. I'm inclined to believe the staff member over the web page

The Civ games are good at a lot of things but the unrealistic battle models just killed the game for me. For grand strat
I voted no, but this is partly because I believe the poll to be biased by the way it presents the possibility.
Honestly, I am biased in thinking that we Need Magical Damage types like Boogiebac talks about further up in the thread. The game will have a robust magic system and a very diverse range of magical monsters to fight. I've been playing games like this for 20 years now and I can honestly say I think it's somethi
Thanks for the info. Keep up the hard work :)
I like the music too. It's quite fitting to the game environment so far. Lets hope the battle music is just as awesome.
It's pretty surprising to defend that the only possible source of strategy are damage types.
I'm not saying it's the only source of strategy, but, in a game about Magic , Magic damage types are a huge part of it. The rest is all subject to opinion. I also understand how getting slashed and getting crushed are quite different but I do consider them rather Mundane forms of damage when compared to
