How would formations influence battle? Wedge give bonus against cavalry, but penalty against swordsmen? This could get into micromanagement pretty fast.
Yes, wedge for foot soldiers was a bad example, I was just throwing it out there. I'm not saying go overboard with the formations either, they can be kept simple. I just think they would be a nice feature when you start talking about large armies. Formations themselves co
No, moo3 without space lanes would still have been a piece of shit, just without space lanes. I remember during beta (which I was not in) how they kept saying "we are going to make it it's own game". And boy, did they, they had no business putting the Master of Orion name on that stinker.
I can go with that. There were still a few aspects of the game that weren't bad though. The other thing I couldn't stand was how s
I don't remember MoM having elemental damage types....
Honestly, it's been about 10 years since I played it (which is sad because I still have the disks). I can't remember if it had specific damage types for magic or not. When I think of magical damage types D&D (Dungeons and Dragons) comes to mind and that's what I use in most of my ideas. AoW Incorporated magical damage types to some extent

Unfortunately, the wolves in elemental were finished before i came on board! Boo!! But Akil did a good job on them nonetheless. Hopefully I will get to do some creature work down the line but who knows. Im having fun with tactical icons at the moment ^^ <b
Being able to build a magical underwater city would be a nice feature. So would being able to make a magical island or to rip a island out of the water and make it fly.
By "Continuous Turn Based" I think he means like Baldur's Gate or Dragon Age. It's live but you can pause it any time you want to give orders. Un-pause it and you watch your oders unfold. Preferably it should have a option for both. One game that did this well back in the day was X-Com Apocalypse. It could be purely turn based combat, or it was live and you could pause as needed. You could pick this option or not at the begining of each combat.
I have to agree. One of the pillars, and often a make or break, for a 4X game is its economic system. If you dumb it down too much you make it superfluous... if you make it too complex (or have an inadequate UI to handle its level of complexity) then you make it frustrating. The key to making a successful local inventory system work isn't to try and have your cake and eat it too (which will simply irritate a lot of players who
Ok, I understand where those of you saying "it's not original" are coming from. That's true, but, think about this. Why is Elemental what it is? Why was AoW what it was? All these games are based after MoM and the other old school strategy games right? Those games all did SOMETHING right. If they didn't we wouldn't have played them and we wouldn't be looking forward to Elemental now. All these strategy games follow some kind of rudimentary formula. All 4X strategy games do. You build, you res
My wife is a gamer too but she's mostly into those stupid FaceBook apps. Something called Farmville, YoVille, and something else that looks stupid. She's also into the Sims 3. I got her into WoW when I played it. She likes Prototype which I find funny because that's normally not her style of game. Surprisingly she likes Batman Arkham Asylum and she always gets me to buy her the latest Guitar Hero. I just got her part 5 the other night when I grabbed myself Win 7. She likes some console games
So far I've played it for about 30 minutes. It seems ok so far but I'm a little let down at the lack of PhysX in the environment. The enemies have what appears to be rag doll physx when they fall down dead. I saw a bottle sitting on a barrel near where you start. I thought "ok, target practice". I shot the bottle and.....nothing. At first I thought maybe I missed my target so I tried again. I shot the bottle at least 10 times dead on and it didn't even shatter....quite sad. The rest of the ga
I downloaded the Heaven Benchmark. I can run DX11 and it is SWEET!!! I'm averaging Frame Rates in the 60's and 70's unless I look at the sky at which point it hits the high 90's. You can even move around the world and look at stuff in the benchmark. Most other benchmarks I've seen and tried don't give you control like that. Normally it's just a walkthrough where your view is restricted to following the pre-set camera path. Very nice indeed.
Welcome aboard!! :) Don't forget to call Boogie "ScottyDON'T" around the office. You are all luckier then you know. Getting hired on at a successful games company today is tantamount to winning the lottery. Enjoy it :) Why is it I get the feeling that Kay's favorite animated movie is "Balto" :P Interesting style indeed. I like it, but from a art standpoint it's a little too "Disney" for my personal tastes. Still, it's good work.
I think I agree with you guys. Resource storing = bad idea. Let me talk to the team.
Why not just have a Warehouse or a Silo building that can store a limited amount of each resource? If it takes 10 turns to make one knight, would it take 100 turns to make 10 knights? What if I had enough Iron to make 10 Iron Plate Mail suits all at once? If that's true then it should only take 10 turns to train the 10 knights, not
All 50 or 500 swordsmen are located in the same tile
Excellent ideas but I don't agree with one thing. I can see 50 Men in one square, but God I hope not 500 in one square. That would be cheesy as Hell IMO. 500 Men should also be able to choose between a few simple formations preferably as well. Like a line or a box or perhaps even a wedge after the tactics are researched.
Do you like X-Com and games like it? Squad based tactical combat on a turn based level? (not a real time shooter though some have the option to do it)
I know this is a fantasy game, with spells. But spells != several magical damage types. You can have a ton of magic without damage types. I think a generic "magic" damage is nice, but having an array of magical damage types and resistances is the mistake to me. I prefer much better spells with after or side effects than damage types.
I'd rather have types that add to the strategic depth of combat. Like using a Healing s

I’d say have fun but…well, you know…
Forget the small children, it's making ME cry.... I'd be doing more beta testing but it's hard to test something that crashes before you can finish a game or get a accurate test of the economics model... The stability needs SERIOUS work.
It wasn't overlooked. Vanguard is the textbook case of a bad launch. It was quite possibly the worst launch of any MMO post-WoW, when most players are no longer willing to tolerate buggy unfinished garbage that won't run at higher then 10fps on their computers. (And that pretty much was Vanguard at launch.) I hear its actually working now, but when 90% of your players quit in the first month because you released something that was n
I have a lot of suggestions but that depends on your definition of a "Little game gem". Have you tried "Trine" yet?
Diplomacy ships?
Not to defend the idea of Diplomacy Ships, but, it does have a basis to go from. Remember in the beginning of Star Wars when Vader boards Leia's ship? She says it's a "Diplomatic Envoy". It's one ship transporting a diplomat (the princess). Just a thought. I have no idea how these ships will be used in Sins Diplomacy.
Ahh MMO's. I've been around the block and back with these. I played the First MMO. Ultima Online. Without UO you wouldn't have MMO's today. It started it all. Here's a list of my MMO experience. I started UO while I was in college and started working for Origin Systems as a Volunteer Staffer before I got my AA in Comp Sci. UO Horizons This was actually a Lot of fun until I found out it Did

I'm downloading a Direct2Drive version of this now. I most likely won't get around to playing it until later today sometime but it looks pretty good. The download is going to take a few hours and I'm probably going to bed shortly but it'll be ready to install when I wake up. Anyone played it yet?
