The Chinese have several advantages over the west when it comes to geo-political contests/stresses/conflicts. 1) They are a tad more homogeneous - meaning racial/ethic issues consume a smaller percentage of their efforts... Right or wrong, the Chinese insist that ALL their people ALL buy into the prevailing cultural mores. They have no illusions, multi-culturalism does not a strong nation state make. If you are going to live in China, don't expect to demand bi-lingual schools, o

Hi mattson, Thanks for reply. Thank you - happy to know people will help when they can! I'm on XP so no adm issues. v2.8 seemed ok. But ctd after about 300 turns, in three games i tried. I patched v2.8 to v2.81. Runs fine. No problems, I'm in the classical era. So I have it running now. re: v2.92, i did follow steps # 1-3, and there was no interface. Seemd to 'play' ok, otherwise. If I ever go

Many interesting and valid points made by many posters. I enjoy DW, with the expansion. I haven't played vanilla DW, (un-expanded.. LOL) so its difficult to gage some of the reviewers statements and some of the responses. While i disagree with **some** the 'harshness' of the reviewers comments, I also agree that the game has its issues. (more later) I commend the reviewer for doing a review, and giving us all the opportunity to discuss DW. First,

Ok, i've spent over 8 hours trying to get it to run. I can get it to run, but without an interface. I've done ** exactly ** what you, and the forum have said to do. back up was ver 2.8 - i cannot find a link to ver 2.8 that actually goes to a place where it actually is available. So, I guess its not going to happen. Thanks again. found the 2.8 hidden under turrent...

thought i found ver 2.8 of ROM. was 2.91 instead. 2.8 takes me to a site (atomic gamer) that doesn't have it anymore. So, i guess ver 2.8 is not available anymore. i will try to uninstall the old patch and reinstall the 'same' patch downloaded form a different place. LOL. I've done everything both you, and the doc said to do. next step will be to reinstall civ, and not put in FfH2. Maybe FfH2 (which has a self installer - and runs f

Hi MattsSan, thanks for link to civ fanatics. However, I have already been through that forum with a fine tooth comb, and posted for help there. No replies there, (its a somewhat inactive forum these days...). Thats why i posted here, many active gamers who also play FfH2, SMAC, etc.... Appreciate the try...

I have sid meier's civ4 complete. ROM 2.92 one download, complete, (-ie not an earlier version of ROM, patched to 2.92). I could not get ROM to run even when I followed both 'fixes' stated in the 'CvAltRoor' =py file, opened with notepad. I then tried various places for the CvAltroot file, and finally got ROM to run, but there is no screen interface. The keyboard commands work, some of the fun

Actually, we already had the space western. Forget the name of the movie. it had a 'new sheriff' come to a mining facility based on a giant asteroid, or a small moon orbiting one of the gas giants. Also, 'Firefly' has some episodes that are really 'westerns' on other planets. Hey, the gangs ride horses, (except the boss- he gets a grav car, lol). Western --> spaghetti western --> space western. They are already here.

Thanks all for advice! did it. Now we will see if my 2mg ram system can actually run Rise of mankind mod for Civ4.

I recently tried to download the civ4 mod 'rise of mankind.' All the links report back that the server is 'unreachable.' Apparently i need a torrent client on my pc to successfully d-l the civ4 mod. I did a search about torrent clients, and there is a great deal of info, and many warnings about malware either disguised as a torrent client, or 'bundled' with some torrent clients. Would a savy PC user suggest some safe and efficient (bit) torrent clie

After getting an embedded Trojan, complements of a facebook targeted malware attack, that necessitated reformatting my HD and reinstalling windows, I deleted my facebook account. BTW, Doc, Yrag, and others were VERY helpful in getting be back up and running. Since facebook continues to be such a high volume target, a malware magnet of sorts, I am happy I deleted the account. Any suggestions on alternatives?

This is a trend that usually doesn't end well..... People shouldn't be afraid of their government......The government should be afraid of the people. I agree. In fact, I would piggy back (froggy-back?) on the above ideas by suggesting that some rare, very rare, unique technologies, or 'one time construction projects / weapon - armor making / spelling result from exploring and researching in a lost library / temple. If you have your people working a library, there is a small chance they will 'discover' something valuable from the past. And, may I suggest that the 'new' discoveries sometimes have an 'up' side as well as a

Sandbox is fine by me. I haven't played on line before - since Internet hookup is new to me. Sandbox playing is also story-writing for me. Perhaps role playing might be a better descriptor? I'm all for a quality campaign. But if its a choice of one over the other, please work on making the sandbox better. Besides, i think the enchantress is going to be like a big campaign, At least I hope so.

Yes, Xia, 'generic' is a good way to describe it. I agree, thanks. I'm not sure how to address the generic aspects of EWOM. FFH2 continues to draw me into its lore. I write stories for the character in FFH2, even nameless commanders. EWOM hasn't drawn me in, thus far. You suggest several things that resonate with me: Perhaps, a number of unique terrain locations would help some. Yes, perhaps making quests 'last' several turns - not just
