I think it's pretty obvious this is the value the AI uses to determine what to research next and I'm about to edit the file in a pretty big way to get the AI to keep up with me, but I have a couple questions first. Does it matter if the AIPriority value is 1 above another or 100? I see lots of 550, 450, and 50, so this suggests to me that it isn't a simple "research whatever has a higher AIPriority value" going on, and that other calculations come into play. Otherwise there would b

Onboard graphics are teh suck. I have a Radeon HD 4350. I can rule out overheating, and if it is the RAM I'm never buying from newegg again (a gfx card that's DOA that forces me to return it but not after buying a lower tier card (the 4350) at a local store just to test, a PSU that shits out right after the 90 day warrenty which forces me to use my old one which is old as dinosaurs, and now a bad RAM stick?). I suppose it could be my PC, but I can't imagine WoM being the only

Just like in the other betas I'm getting a blue screen of death occassionally. I can load WoM back up and load a save and go beyond the point it happened every time, so it isn't reproducible. The error message is PAGE_FAULT_IN_NON_PAGING_AREA with a mention of ati2cpag.dll. Here is the debug file. If this isn't WoM and is instead caused by a malfunction in my own PC let me know. I've seen a couple other threads about BSODs though, so I doubt it is my PC and not WoM. ht

This seems really nice. Hopefully you update it for 1.2 when it comes out. I'm going to download this and try it with the 1.19 betas to see if it'll work. This thread prompted me to look into the AIDefs file, and I noticed this:

Once they gear properly the game will be fun on a bun. I've come to the conclusion this is the main reason the AI is so easy to beat. Even single game I play I encounter numerous situations that would have been very hard for me to overcome had they just had their sov/spouse/offspring/champions geared. Seriously, in my last game Magmar would have mopped the floor with every other AI and probably even myself if they just geared properly. On top of that, the game needs a modifier

I've never seen more than a few seconds of lag between turns, but granted I do tiny, small, and the sometimes medium maps. I'll have to do a large ma

http://rapidshare.com/files/451344653/OneCity.EleSav I always enjoyed the one city challenge in civ4, so I built a tiny map with 3 AI players and gave it a go. They seemed to do fairly well until end game. As you can see in the save they eventually stop building houses to increase population once they go over the 750 limit. It makes sense to think the AI is programmed to spead the food around smaller towns to level them up once their main city or cities reach level five
That doesn’t mean gimping the base game. You're such an idealist. While I like your sentiment, I don't believe for even a single second that any one of the big publishers and companies involved in games would follow you on that. Gimping the base game to make more money IS a sucessfull business model, as the last few years of DLC have shown.
Which is why I don't buy games like I used to

Setting it to 1 makes the AI "smarter" I guess, I couldn't say beyond that general statement. It makes a noticable difference in my opinoin, when I played games with it set to 0 the AI didn't preform nearly as good. Rediculous has it set to 1 though, so there isn't any difference.

Did something get changed in 1.19e in regards to population? I tried to look for the changelog for 1.19e in Impulse but couldn't find it anywhere. =X Regardless, I find I'm running out of population like never before in 1.19e. Either I'm more aggressively building stuff or something has changed. If something did get changed then it was a good change.

I play on a custom difficulty (even playing field with AI intelligence set to 1) and I've seen Janusk maybe once or twice in a couple dozen starts in 1.19e. It's still bugged. ;)

15 Replies 13,326 Views

Gearing up sovs and champions should be done aggresively by the AI when "AIIntelligenceFactor" is set to 1, in my humble opinion. If it's set to 0 I'd leave it as it is currently. Just a thought. =)

1 Replies 4,417 Views

Yep, it seems to be fixed in 1.19e. I've loaded up more than one map and they've worked fine for quite awhile. Thanks a bunch for fixing this. =)

PAGING_FAULT_IN_NONPAGING_AREA pointing to aticpag.dll (I think that's the correct filename, something similar if it isn't right). Debug file: http://rapidshare.com/files/450850260/debug.err

Thanks for the post, I didn't realize it either. I never have Impulse up unless I know there's an update.

This happened to me in the beginning of a game with Janusk (or however it's spelled). I always have a FirstTurn save file around so I can explore a little before I commit to playing. It happened three times on reloads of the FirstTurn save. Now I wish I would have saved the file. Considering it happened to me on Janusk's spawn it doesn't need to be initiated by combat. His phantom was stuck there regardless of whether or not I accepted his offer to join my empire.

Every map I make that I save with the "Set Spawn No Objects Flag" checked crashes within a few turns when I load it up. Resaving the map with the option turned off seems to fix it, as I can load it up and play turn after turn. I can send you two versions of the same map, one with and one without (I only saved the last one I made) if it's necessary, but this seems like the kind of thing you guys and gals should be able to reproduce rather easily. I place NPCs and resources but no goodie huts.

I looked through ElementalDef (a couple times both before and after your reply) and I didn't see anything. I guess I'm just being blind and dumb. Specific name of the value? If it's "ZOCImprovementInfluence" it sounds like it controls more than just the minimum distance. EDIT: Changing "ZOCImprovementInfluence" does not change the minimum distance between cities. =\

7 Replies 37,314 Views

Any way to mod the minimum distance needed to settle a new city and the minimum distance allowed between city improvements? Are there two options or just one? It would suck if both the distance between improvements and the distance to settle were handled by the same value, but I could deal with it. =P I've noticed that when two cities touch by stringing resources in a straight line from one city to another that it consistently goes to the same city, and it doesn't break the game by cr

I've noticed that a lot of maps that come with the game don't show up until you re-save them. Typically by then I've done a little editing to the environment and replaced all the starting locations with new ones. I'm not entirely sure why they don't show up to begin with. If you start with a blank map, build it, and it still isn't showing up, then I'm not sure what to tell you. You're placing starting locations, right? Starting Point 1 (red) will be for you, 2-8 (green, black, blue, e
