Pretend to text on an imaginary cell phone. Sort of hide it, but be sure that they can see it if they are looking (near your leg works well). When they call you out, deny it. Of course, you won't actually have been texting, so they will look like an idiot. When they are done, go back to fake-texting. Just be sure you don't have a REAL cell phone anywhere on your body!!!

This brings back my idea of a closed-loop system: you can store essence in yourself or artifacts, and move it (often by force) between channelers, but whenever you add up the total amount of essence in the game, you always get the same amount.

Yeah, considering the way the game looks, I think it will stop before the development of germ theory, at the very latest. The road-building thing makes sense, but will we have to discover plumbing? According to Brad's podcast from a while back, Elemental is going to have two tech trees: one for magic, and one for "conventional" technology like forges, siege engines, mining, etc. The question is, what technology should be on the conventional tree: at what period in technological development should the tree start, and at what peroid should it stop?
