I found this particularly interesting:
At the time of this writing, approximately 2,000 users did return Demigod to us. Approximately 60% of those users purchased at retail. Nearly 90% of all users who returned Demigod subsequently re-purchased the game once the network issue had been resolved.
I guess that just shows that if you treat your customers right, they'll remember it.

So, why the general upheaval in this thread about we gamers getting access to alcohol but not AO rated games. That's just a crap argument that comes out of your individual PERCEPTION and not cold hard facts. Again, I defy you to name ONE SINGLE GAME that we have been denied access to here in the USA (based on game rating) but that others around the world have had acces

I was thinking about something similar today, because right now you basically start every game down 5 essence in order to create that first town. There doesn't seem to be much avoiding it, you really need a town at some point. Not sure if I'd really want to see it as a racial trait or simply as "you get a town at your starting location automatically", though.

We don't really need a settler unit. We're supposed to be able to imbue units to create new channelers anyway (probably as the magic system gets flshed out), so once we can do that the solution on land that needs essence already exists. For just building on already fertile land, maybe any unit should have the ability to found cities. (Or just the imbued units, either way.)

Don't worry, you're not missing a lot in beta 1. :) When you get access to it, more game will be there.
I'm interested to see how units will upgrade, because I can't really think of a good way to do it.
Well, right now a production time for the equipment is a factor in unit production. Why not go back to that? If you're upgrading 10 units to plate armor, the nearest town to those units should have its production switched to making that armor (so if it adds 1 turn to the unit to make plate armor, it'd take 10 turns). Well, the upgrade manager was aimed at existing units, yeah. Right now to upgrade a design, you'd go into the unit designer, pick Swordsman I, hit "upgrade", change the armor, and call it Swordsman II. You could probably do that all in one shot, but its not as straightforward when changing types of gear. Upgrading from Plate to +1 Plate is pretty easy, but do you actually want all your leather wearing unit designs to switch to plate? Not necessarily. Designing a UI to handle that is w
For some reason all the manual upgrading in MoO2 never bothered me. I could see how it would be bothersome, but I loved having all that control.
Something like what I suggested doesn't take away any control. :) It just puts a better UI on top of it, so you can manage things easily. You could upgrade ships in GalCiv, but to do it you had to find the ship, bring up the menu, go to upgrade, and pick how you wanted to do it

I'm thinking we should have an upgrade manager screen. Say you learn to make new plate armor. Bring up the update manager, and select your new plate armor item. The screen would then show a list of *all* units that can be upgraded, what it will cost for each one, and what the stat change would be. You can then select which ones you want to upgrade (or all of them), hit the button, and the game will go to work churning out armor and upgrading them. That would let you upgrade things wit

If you're using say ATT 10 DEF 9 units, when the rolls are using a more normal distribution what you're going to see is more cases where the numbers are similar, which means 1 damage in this case. With wider variation in the rolls, you'll see more zeros (anytime DEF roll > ATT roll) and more 10 damage turns (since the only case this can happen is when ATT roll = 10 and DEF roll = 0, it's really unlikely on a normal distribution). I'm still on the fence as to if thats

I'm not really sure which way I go on this. There is certainly a strong case to be made here. I had an example in another thread of some combat with straight random rolls, and it showed how wildly things could fluctuate. It's not so bad with small numbers (ATT 2 DEF 1 for example isn't going to have a wide variation in results), but on units with bigger numbers (ATT 9 DEF 9) you'll see wild fluctuations in damage from hit to hit (anywhere from 0 to 9). When a unit only has 10 HP

Not sure when the next update is now, but it seems like it might have the proposed research system in it. So that probably delayed things. I wouldn't count on a regular schedule for a few months. :)

I don't see what this has to do with hardcore vs non-hardcore. Removing plate armor as an option because I learned "advanced pike formations" doesn't make any sense. Punishing people for picking the thing they need most out of the list right now by permanently removing something they might have picked later is punishing the player for doing what rational players do (prioritization).
