I agree, 2010 seems unlikely unless they are REALLY far along already. What a great year for strategy fans though. Elemental Civ5, and Starcraft 2? Wow!
Lots of info this week! I'm curious though, what is the strategy to stop city spam? In the last beta we got, you could still wind up with a huge amount of cities because resources only work if a city is in range. i know I wound up creating more cities then I actually wanted to just to harvest everything, then to put a city here, and there, etc. So, what is the plan to stop city spam?
I don't think whatever it is has been announced yet. Hopefully soon.
I don't see how it would have been more restrictive than most/all spells requring a control of at least one specific shard type--although you're right to call me on possibly worrying in advance with too little info. Back when I was thinking about 5-6 flavors of mana, I rashly assumed that a sovereign's banked mana was independent of shard control and that we would be able to trade mana with other sovereigns (and possibly acquire
Essence has to be sacrifed in order to make the land livable. Therefor either your sovereign or a another channler needs to start the city in order to remain consistant. I do NOT want to see that mechanic changed much as is makes your cities much more valuable - and prevents endgame city spam.
That's only partially true. If you're on the wrong type of land, essence has to be spent to make it livable. B
This has to be a new standard for stupid DRM . If at any point you don't have an Internet connection, the game will kick you out, and lose your progress since the last save. Have a drop for 2 seconds? Sorry, start over. Router problems? Get lost. Want to play your single player game in a spot that doesn't have constant Internet? Ubisoft doesn't want you as a customer.
I'm still hoping that this particular change will be rescinded or substantially modified. It sounds far to much like making a magic system equivalent of railroads in Civ1-3, only worse because it would make big chunks of spell knowledge useless for a certain range of map types and playstyles. I wouldn't mind some very rare/high-end spells (especially the world-wrecking stuff) that had a shard requirement, but to make it the norm seems excessive.
Must read thread! Once upon a time factions were to have a couple of elements associated to them. As the Sovereign can now pick up books at creation, that idea is no more? That would leave factions being different from each other by appearence and tech trees?
I think that changed just like the research system changed. Now its the spells organized into books. Picking books will give you certain spell
It kind of defeats the point of having multiple races in each faction if all of the Empire boils down to "evil". They're probably not all evil (or at least have substantially varying degrees of evil), just like I doubt all the Kingdoms are universally "good".
I'm having a hard time keeping track of the "way to rip off Tolkin/Dragonlance/whatever" people as opposed to the "where is the pointy ear race?" people. Seems like there's no way to win.

Do you think they should maybe stop calling them "next-generation consoles" at some point, now that they've been current for a couple of years?
Games For Windows? I thought you were using some kind of custom Impulse based MP system?
Games For Windows is just a set of standards on how a game should behave when it's installed and run. Things like "the game must run with a standard user account" are included. Generally speaking, the GFW requirements are best practice anyway and it's not onerous to support them. <a href="http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library
I don't think anybody is representing Stardock badly, there. Its a disagreement. If they only sold games that conformed to the bill of rights, Impulse would have very few games. Really, they warn you up front on the game's page just what DRM it is using, which is more then you'll find from a lot of other companies.
Yeah. Darn shame.
There was a demo for a short time before it was released.
Yeah, I didn't know about it until after it closed because I wasn't watching the game very closely until release, when I wanted to try it. Then I couldn't. Never really gave it another look. What I really want is a proper SimCity 5, or a replacement for that.
The Kingdom of Tarth (“Tarthans”, sometimes called the kingdom of something that would negatively affect our ESRB rating by Capitarans but more commonly referred to as the Rebels)
LOL Is there a larger version of that first picture? That mage would make a great wallpaper. [e digicons]\o/[/e]
The reversed version seems better, that's really something. How does such a small change make such a big difference? As for the Mass Effect 2 box... that's for the collectors edition of a sequel. Everybody who is going to buy that version already KNOWS that. The box art could be nothing but black text on a white background and it wouldn't affect sales a whole lot. You'll notice that the standard version has more conventional art. (And Heavy Rain is going to bomb
Brad, you have an 8 core machine? That's insane!
Box? Who buys computer games in boxes anymore?
I do! Though I'm having Stardock ship it to me so I can be in beta now. :P
EDIT: You CAN update your game if you don't have the internet on the same PC as you do the game, but can use the internet somewhere else, it's just a little more complicated then just opening Impulse and clicking update. I've never actually done it, so I'm not too sure on the details, but it is possible.
Simplest way to get updates this way is to use a computer that has internet, and install Elemental. Do the updates. Use Impulse
huh, so all we have to do is turn it on? you think bikinis would work or should we try dancing nude to get it on?
All we have to do is get Stardock to turn it on. Brad is holding out on us! [e digicons]:frogboy:[/e]
This is a game I really wanted to try, but there was no demo version when it came out. So I just moved on and forgot about it. Note to publishers who I haven't enjoyed games from in the past. No demo = no sale. (In fact I only heard of Stardock after trying the SoaSE demo, and now I've got several Stardock games.)
If you just pre-ordered, your order hasn't been processed yet. You will be able to get the beta when they release beta 2.
