Not fond of "combat speed modifier" if that means we'll have to calculate DPS rates (correct me if I misunderstand).
Any reasonably decent UI can calculate and display the DPS rate for you (or more likely damage per turn in this case). Combat speed is a nice stat because it can simulate things that just straight attack/defense don't cover, like a cannon. Cannonfire does HUGE damage to whatever it hits, and would ki
having to buy horses sounds like a good thing to incorporate, I like that idea. So resources are like population? To build a unit on a horse and a sword we need just that? 1 horse, 1 man, and 1 sword? To have a sword we need iron , copper ore, etc.? Cool, this makes me feel a lot better about this I sure hope stockpiling is re instituted. Also I love the idea of a world wide marketplace like tormy was saying earlier. I'd like to see ca
The last couple of Civ games were clunkers though (Colonization and Revolution are both entirely forgettable, to be charitable). It's not like the franchise has a track record of perfection (Civ 3). Civ 5 is likely not going to fall into that category, but it's silly to assume the sky is falling.
1) falling into the Civ 1 - Civ 4 trap of lacking availible resources and falling far, far behind. Its only fun when you're the guy with the Battleship and in Civ 1-Civ 4, you could only ever build a "battleship", there was no way to counter with some other powerful unit using other reources. Battleship was it.
That's what trading is for. With enough resources in the game, you're going to have s
Metal being a global resource, players decide how much metal they want their units to use when they design them. When they go to train one, it consumes the metal when it's built. Metal is infinitely stored globally. I don't know how many other history buffs there are here but those that are know what I mean when I say that metal is a big deal. When you see an enemy unit with plate armor showing up, it should be the same
Why would a city square generate food? It's a city, you can't grow a whole lot in it. Really, that mechanic has never made any sense, it's just done for gameplay reasons. Anyway, the model for how production works in Elemental is so different then from Civ that having tiles produce stuff just for the sake of having tiles produce stuff doesn't fit the game.
Does anybody know if they plan to also to have a "non-cheating" AI like they have done in previous games?
There's always a non cheating AI up to some difficulty level, yeah. The question is just how hard that one is. :)
It really doesn't have to produce anything ... although it makes sense that it would produce "something" like at a foraging value level .. including gold and food as well.
It does, in 1G. When you build a new settlement, it has innate things like food production. It's got no farm, no connections, but can still grow the population a fair bit just on the base production. That's effectively your foraging. The 1Z stuff look

It puts up higher numbers then a card that is $100 cheaper, but not significantly so in real (as opposed to synthetic) benchmarks. Except for sky high power usage of course. The performance difference per dollar just isn't there.
Why should it produce something?
Depending on the supply of tutors, that is a neat idea. I know these games can be pretty daunting for newbies.
I'm thinking I may wait for the inevitable Civ 5 "complete edition" before I buy it, but if it's really good I may jump earlier. Don't feel the same need to buy on day 1 because I'll also have Elemental. Bad timing? Nah, it's great timing if you're a TBS fan.
I don't think that's how its intended to work. Buildings do things like earn gold and speed production, as do resources. Empty wasteland doesn't really do much of anything.
2. The developer will also include multiplayer. I'm not saying that stardock doesn't have the time to implement both a good AI and multiplayer together, but that makes a project much bigger than any galciv title released to date. 3. Multiplayer games have a stronger emphasis on the comunity of people that play together. And that also makes great business sense. I expect the publisher to shift their focus to the balancing
Precisely. And this is specifically why we have the vote. Right now, relatively few people are providing data or crash info (some people are but we have a hard time determining overall ecosystem stability). IF you cannot play through a game without crashing then it is NOT ready for beta 2.
Would it be possible to have an automatic crash reporter like some other games have? I know when WoW cras

Yeah, thanks for the info Brad. Looks good now. :)
EDIT: In response to Locklear's comments... I think it's very good they're asking us. While I'm sure Stardock has their own milestones and what-not in regards to the development of their game, I also think they wouldn't have asked us if they didn't need or want our input. From a Development standpoint, your logic is flawed. As I've said, I'm sure SD has their own milestones, but nothing about this game, major or m
Same thing here.
On the Elemental forums page, I used to see a list of forums, and then some recent posts. All I can see now is the recent posts. So unless there's a dev journal thread listed, it seems impossible to get to that board. Anybody else having that problem?
World of Warcraft. Borderlands. Elemental every time a new build comes out.
You can't properly test balance right now no matter what you do, going by that standard. Any spell intended to be used in tactical combat won't be in the game until tactical combat is also in the game, and that's beta 4. When something this size is still in active development, it's not practical to wait for all the content. You're testing systems. Content will get added throughout the process, because people like artists and writers can only work so fast, AND they can work in parallel
what sucks is the beta people per ordered and got it up the hole when they lowered the price for new players and get free months to boot. the people who paid top cash get nothing and we helped to fix the game so they can make the cash they did.
Right but Frogboy did say twards "completetion," which imo includes graphics. But he probably means gameplay
The graphics aren't being turned on until beta 3. No amount of saying "no" now will change that.
It'll speed up loading times because you'll be able to cache a lot more data without having to go to the hard drive. Especially in Vista, where a lot of RAM is used by the OS.
