It also depends on how easy it is to integrate the scripting runtime into the game, and how easy it is to secure (ie: disabling it's ability to make system calls, because you really don't want a mod able to read the entire hard drive and send the results to the FBI!). I think LUA is actually better for this type of thing then Python is, but Python is pretty good for it too.

Yes you have to wait for the buildings to construct but the process is far far quicker than with the initial city. And the starting city isn't 40 tiles. It is something like 10. it is too early to start planning, because we have no idea what the systems will actually look like by beta 5. :P

That's better for some things then others. Modders who are tinerking with things like economics and advanced unit stuff really do need an indepth understanding of just what is going on. Now, a full blown quest list with all the outcomes and rewards? That I agree is better off not written.

There is no micro with them at all, but they provide an actual thing on the map to attack to disrupt trade rather then just standing on a road.
Maybe it should just be a case where when you enter a ZoC, the defenders in control of it get a free round of combat against the invaders. A small garrison in that case would be able to seriously affect a single unit wandering around, but nine guys in the fort aren't a threat to an army. If it wanted to, the army could take the hits and keep going. In that case, a garrison of 5000 is a force to be reckoned with and can't be ignored. The advantage to a system like that is that

It can't model caravans being taken and goods being stolen straight off the trade route, bc caravans act as % increases now and don't actually carry real resources. a "siege" is going to play out the exact same way as attacking a planet in Galciv worked. you post ships/ troops around the planet/ city, getting rid of the garrison and when a trade ship/ caravan comes by you destroy i
The last thing I heard on this was that they'd decided to change the system based on feedback so that daughters won't be married off. Not sure if it's changed in the current release or not, but it's going to be fixed. :) I agree with you totally, though I'm a male. It's somewhat more realistic the way they originally had it, but the "fun" factor isn't really there if you want a badass heroine leading your army and not just to be diplomacy bait.
Well, I agree about Diablo 2. But Diablo 2 was made by Blizzard North, and it was the single buggiest thing Blizzard has ever put out at release. Many of those guys left for companies like Flagship and Cryptic, and we can see how well that has worked out. But beyond that... Starcraft turned out really well, Warcraft 3 had a great mapmapking community (didn't care for the base game myself but the custom maps like DotA and Tower Defense were awesome), and while WoW isn't everyones cup o
Not trying to be rude, but I'll probably succeed at it anyway. TBH, this reads like something straight off the WoW forums. After every change, Blizzard is "not listening", "breaking balance", "ruining the game", and so on. Been hearing that for five years... and before that for several more years with Starcraft. Somehow Blizzard's games always manage to survive the horrible things Blizzard is accused of doing to them, which really tells me that it's not so bad after all
Zone of control should take into account the size of the defending unit. A company of 10 men can't "control" a tile and the surrounding tiles. A company of 10 000 men can. Even more if they have some scouts in the army. In elven legacy some units can ignore zone of controls, and that's a good thing. It opens a lot of possibilities.
At the same time, a ZoC doesn't have to mean "nobody can enter thees tiles". It just mean

If there's a real concern about that, a format like a wiki could be used only where edits have to be approved before going up. It doesn't seem to be a major problem with games, though. WoWWiki is among the best resources on the net for straightforward WoW information, and the GC2 wiki was where I learned how a lot of things work that just weren't covered elsewhere. It's especially useful for something like a modding community, because even if Stardock puts out good initial doc
