IIRC, the backstory behind the game is that there was a big crystal that was shattered, and that the channelers can draw from pieces of it. Maybe the spell of making reforms all the fragments into one big one under the control of the caster? You'd be the only channeler left at that point. Either that, or maybe it makes a horde of bear cavalry riding black mages. [e digicons]^_^[/e]

You get all kinds of promises and perks promised and blah blah and in the end you end up waiting on them to do something they promised months ago. What a nice excuse using Demigod as a reason for the setback and you all still waiting to
It's not as a dramatic a reason as "preventing piracy" but I still say the reason you're going to be forced to use Battle.net for any multiplayer is due primarily to the in-game advertising deal. That's where the money is at, not piracy prevention (hahahaha).
I dunno why people see that as a big deal, though. Diablo 1 and Starcraft both had ads in the battle.net lobby. Most of them were ads for other Blizzard stuff,

They could add DX10 later, but when XP is a major part of your audience and the game isn't meant to be Crysis anyway, it's probably not a priority. 11 at this point would be a total waste of time, the installed base for it in terms of hardware is non-existent. I do agree though, it looks great in LotRO (outside of Moria, inside there was some shadow bugs).

Another question - are the trees "done" yet? A friend of mine was looking at the screenshots and commented that he really didn't like the trees in the zoomed in city. (He did really like the combat one and the tech demo one though!)

The city stuff looks great. :) I'm pretty sure I've seen a similar combat screenshot too. I like where its going though. Honestly I'm still not that clear on what the tactical combat is like, but I never played X-Com.

I can see how that might confuse people.

It appeases the fans. It's usually not true. This whole thing fits Activision's M.O. to perfection. Exploit, develop rapid sequels, and monetize everything in sight. Nah, this is Activision at work. They've got their fingerprints over a lot of stuff lately, like how WoW is now going to allow you to change a character's faction (and thus race), for a fee. That was previously something they said they weren't going to do. That buyout is a bad, bad thing.
Quite the opposite. Now the only way to play LAN without buying multiple copies is to pirate or get third party hacks.
How so? Battle.net doesn't let you on without a valid cd key. If there's no LAN support in the game at all, there's no magical pirate switch to enable LAN. This is almost certainly aimed at piracy, since no LAN = no Hamachi pirate networks either. Starcraft had a battle.net server emu

How does tactical combat actually work? There has been a lot of confusion over that, and "continuous turn-based" around here. What happens if a channeler is defeated in combat? If I ask really really nicely, can I get one of those "We want you for the Drengin Empire" posters that was visible in one of the Demigod videos? [e digicons]^_^[/e]

whee, thread necromancy. All these comparisons to GC2 don't really fit that well. The whole thing in GC2 was ship component space. You have X space to fit stuff. Laser II to Laser V changed the size, so in some cases it let you fit an extra one (or something else). Clearly it can't work that way in Elemental, since you aren't going to be able to wield 3 Claymores at the same time no matter what you do to the size of them. Since you can only have a certain number of weapons any

They could send a PM to the chosen 24, but they'd only have to do that if they can't figure out what the persons Impulse account is in order to activate the registration. If they can find you that way, you'll get an email from them when the charge goes through and the game becomes active for you anyway.

It'd be more realistic to have a MM option where some things are simply hidden from you if you want it on simple. The AI governor can take over and automate stuff like town development, tax rates, combining resources, etc. You'd then not see that stuff, but it's actually going on still. Making multiple systems the way you described it is as others have mentioned a development nightmare, and not practical if they ever want to release the game.
