Here is my concern though. One, I don't want see Elemental turned into the flame wars that Demigod's forums are. I don't own Demigood but I patrol the forum because Elemental is one of the first games I am seriously interested in, so far, from Stardock. Yes, I have GC II but it was in the bargain bin years after the release and I am toying with Impulse to see if it the service is acceptable. So let's not turn Elemental into a forum of who can throw

Supreme Commander 2 is a lot like Supreme Commander 1, so its not surprising they'd have video already. From what they've said in the dev journals, a lot of stuff in Elemental isn't hooked up yet. Presumably once there is stuff to show in action other then the cloth map, we'll see it. :)

Does this mean that GalCiv3 will get a book tie-in?
If the Elemental one is well received, its entirely possible. :) I'm hoping it makes it up to stores in Canada.

Or not? The screenshots in media are (very) old - but I think this would be in the near of the game art in the official version. Brown (on the cloth map) and with low contrast and watercolor (in tactical battle). Stardock should publish more information of the game design and concept art th
At some point later in development, I'd like to see filters or hilight options on the cloth map, something to let you put up big easy to find markers on all the iron resources you know about, for example. Would make finding stuff on the map a lot easier.
Do you own stock in Starvault? How could he, it's not a publically traded company. It's Brad Wardell's private domain, and no one dares interefere with the Frogboy!
Is Starvault a company where Brad hides all of Stardock's money? [e digicons]:frogboy:[/e]
I don;t think puttin gthose ideas out there hurts the devlopment or the eventual success of EWOM!
Oh no, neither do I. It's what Spartan said, I just want to see this game evaluated for what it is and not compared to an impossible standard.
Because I want more of this type of game made, which means I want this one to be successful. A 300 page thread full of people complaining about how it doesn't reach a standard imposed by nostalgia is not terribly helpful.
Well, I think it's semantics. The difference between "king" and "god king" is the perception you want to convey. Most kings tried to give the impression that they ruled by divine right anyway. The sovereign is leader of the kingdom, whatever he wants to be called is just a reason why its good to be king. :)
I'm pretty concerned that no matter how good Elemental is, people put MoM on such a high pedastil that they're going to be disappointed. You see the same thing with Everquest junkies who are disappointed every MMO launch because they're comparing it to nostalgia-laden opinions of playing EQ years ago back when it was their first MMO. Nothing can possibly compete with that, because all the broken and stupid stuff gets forgotten so easily.
Do you guys think Stardock will tell us how they chose that few 100 people?
Brad did, in another journal. They chosen 24 people deliberately (based on previous involvement with alphas, forum participation, the quality of bribe presented), and did a lottery of all pre-orders for the rest of the slots with extra chances for other recent Stardock games you own.
The only thing the Internet changed from the past is that now people have an outlet. In the past people who wanted to do this kind of odd stuff couldn't do so in places where they'd be found out, because the community would react badly. On the net, there's always someone else who enjoys the same thing, and being anonymous shields you from public scorn. It's humanity unchained.

Evil is generally so anti-life that they care little for thier own men.
Depends on how you define evil. If you believe that only your chosen ones are worthy and all others are inferior life forms, you probably care a great deal about your own people but have no problem crushing anybody else like bugs (since they're a lower form of

Was mentioned in another thread as being around PAX, which is a month away... not that I'm any more patient then you right now. Hurry up and get here September!
He has a fair point. Vanguard also suffered from listening too much to a community that was too slanted in one direction. Player feedback is invaluable in the beta. But designers have to design, not just do what the community wants. Sometimes for the good of the game, you have to say "no, you're wrong" to your fans. It's a hard thing to do correctly. If they're up to it (and I really believe Brad is), this could really be something special. Hadberz - They're doing the alpha, t
For those of us who didn't get in, take solace in the fact that alphas are traditionally very broken. The "lucky few" are in fact guinea pigs who will go through much pain to make our beta experience that much better! [e digicons]|-)[/e]
If healing is a "life" mana spell, then death wizards could be out of luck. But if its something else, hey maybe! We're not actually sure if there is a real healing spell at all yet. I've found it kind of strange too. I mean the evil warlord is going to want healing for his legions of terror just as much as the good guys. Training new legions of terror is money better spent on slave pits!
Obviously anybody who says anything in this thread is concealing that they're in the alpha. But they're the easy ones. What about those shifty silent types that aren't talking? Those are the ones we really need to go after! [e digicons]:cylon:[/e]

Hey wait a sec, I'm a WoW player. :P
The style isn't going to change between now and next August, though. So for people who don't like the style, waiting until next year is kind of pointless. As long as people aren't being jerks about it, there's nothing wrong with those who don't like it saying so.
Hmm, not to sound needy, but does this mean that we will see the beta this month? I thought that whole demi-god fiasco had pushed us into september, but the post says august... Is that then just the Alpha, or is thier still hope?
The way it looks right now is alpha in August (this week maybe), and beta in September.
I don't want to play a game where some guy gets a guide about what to research and in what order and he wins every time. That would be absolute fail. Did we really need a second thread for this? And for the record, lots of people like a more "cartoony" unrealistic style. "Realistic" graphics have this nasty habit of looking awful on non top-end hardware, or using a style like in most shooters that everything is some shade of brown.
Well, I just started reading this thread today. Ugh. Go back and take a look at page 1, it starts off with people posting nonsense even before any replies to the original question. This is pretty much a poster child for the stereotype that gamers turn into complete idiots whenever women are around. It's sad.
