Click on the resource to select it and then click on the hammer icon in the bottom left. If it's grayed out then a tool tip will tell you what you need to build it.
Some stores decided to break the street date, so Stardock put in a long day yesterday getting a version out to their preorder customers who bought it through Impulse. The official release is tomorrow, and that will also be when the "day 0" patch is released which contains a number of bugs and fixes that aren't in the current version. Edit: Heh, I meant "bug fixes" and not "bugs and fixes", but I'll leave it as originally written because it's probably fai
the back of the box literally says "Randomly generated world, rich in history and ripe for conquest, make each game a new experience." How can it say that and not have random maps?
Because the maps and starting locations are randomized to some extent, just not to an extent that some people prefer. Although I do hope that Stardock releases a few dozen new map seeds over the coming months. I don't
i've been waiting for this game for almost a year, and it seems like a big disappointment to me so far.
Isn't that usually how it goes? The people who anticipate something the most are most often the ones disappointed for a number of reasons. Part of it is that reality rarely lives up to the expectations that have been built up. Speaking as a relative newcomer (I found out about Elemental a week ago), I'm able to see
The cloth map seems petty solid at the moment. It's the 3D view that needs some work.
I would have to disagree with you there. It does a pis-poor job of telling someone HOW to play the game. It's a lot of fluff and not a lot of meat and potatoes.
I'm not sure what "meat and potatoes" you're looking for, but I got a lot out of reading the manual.
I hope Stardock will be able to allow me to d-load at a different comp to get my updates. Or send out discs to customers like me with the patches on them.
You could always try anywhere.impulsedriven.com and use that to download the game for offline installation. You can't get incremental updates that way, but its pretty much your only option at the moment.
most reviewers don't review based on what a game could become with proper support, they review based on what a game is at this moment.
Which is fair, because you're only guaranteed what actually comes in the box at the time of purchase. I trust Stardock to deliver (eventually), but you really can't review a game based on "what could be".
It just needs some polish (which I know they will provide) but most of all it needs documentation.
There's a PDF manual in the game's install directory but absolutely no attention is drawn to that fact. At any rate, it does a pretty good job explaining the basics of the game.
I have no idea what gold does in this game.
Seriously? Gold = money in this and pretty much every other game that features gold as a resource.
I played for maybe 30-minutes this morning and was pretty much utterly lost the whole time. Of course I was just rushing through the game to see as much as I could before I had to go to work, so I didn't take the time to really explore the interface or read the in-game encyclopedia. Still, I think this game could take some time to figure out. Better documentation would help.

White screen in tactical battles and then everything slowly grinds down to a very very slow frame rate (about 1 frame every 2 seconds).
I'm having this exact same problem. Exiting and restarting the game resolves it (at least until the next time I try and play a tactical battle).

I have an Athlon XP 2600+ (yeah, I know), and I'm experiencing similar slowdowns: around 30 FPS with no objects on-screen down to 8 FPS when looking at a city. I get a pretty steady 25 FPS in the cloth map, so I'll probably stick with that for the time being. Thi

No joy for me. Edit: Ah, they just updated in the chat... processing preorders now, but they say it could take up to 5-hours to run them all through. There are apparently a crazy number preorders.

Well, it's probably good it hasn't been released yet. I have some homework I need to get done, so if I had the game already, I'd be sitting here playing instead of doing my homework. Thing is, even if it is released in the next couple of hours, I'm probably looking at a few hours more to download (Impulse says that the game clocks in at almost 2GB), so probably tomorrow for me at the earliest. Edit: Wow, I used the word "probably" a lot in the that post.
