It is beyond the digital gold version but it isn't day 0 either.
How many incremental builds do you have in-house anyway?
When I pre-ordered the game, the page said the 24th. I had no reasonable expectation that it would be available before then.
And when, exactly, does the expectation become reasonable? When the CEO of Stardock himself posts in these very forums saying that the game will be available on the morning of the 22nd for beta testers and midday for preorders, is it unreasonable to expect that the game will, in fact, be available
It'll still be a couple of hours. Bear in mind we're between gold and day 0 so we're having to put this stuff together. We weren't even planning on being here today.
So realistically we're looking at 7pm EST (US) at the earliest.
It's out when it's out. It looks like we're getting it a bit early, so that's great. Getting stressed out because it's running a bit late or because retailers broke the street date isn't worth the wasted energy.
Who are you talking to, exactly? I don't see anybody stressing out.
It's still mid-day where I'm at...and where Stardock is at. Unless early afternoon has morphed into something else while I wasn't paying attention.
Early afternoon is something else. That's why it's called "early afternoon" and not "midday". Midday is traditionally the 12-o'clock hour. Once the little hand hits the 1, it's no longer midday.
You people need to calm down. Remember, the release date is the 24th, so anything before that is a privilege.
You'd have a point if we weren't explicitly told that the game was being released today for beta testers and preorders. But since Brad apparently just woke up around 20-minutes ago, they may not get around to actually flipping the switch until this evening some time.
Sad to say, the release trailer to this game is flat out awful - it makes what appears to be a creative and fun magic civ game look like an old-fashioned stodgy mess, and is IMO likely to scare off potential buyers.
I disagree. I didn't even know this game existed until early last week when an email announcement with a link to the trailer appeared in my inbox. After watching the trailer, I thought, "That looks really cool!" I then spent
This time we were prepared for that possibility. Hence having an update ready to go and having the MP servers DOWN prior to general availability.
Oh, so that means the version being released (hopefully) today will be the Day 0 version?
My question is will it just show up in Impulse, or is there something special we have to do?
It actually looks like the patch notes from gold -> day0 patch, since it mentions the single player campaign.
Oh, that'd be cool, because it's the day 0 version that I really want.
I assume when Brad says "midday" that his point of reference is Eastern Standard Time (US) since Stardock is located in Michigan, is this correct?
Tomorrow. Beta testers get it early tomorrow, Pre-orders get it midday tomorrow. Everyone else Tuesday.
[e classic]:surprised:[/e]
Seriously, don't ever use PayPal .
It's just Stardock getting all their ducks in a row before the big day.
8 hours only ? That's too short for a TBS .
It'd be short if that's the only mode that the game offered, but the real game is the "sandbox" mode.
Edit: Never mind... looks like the post I was replying to got deleted.
8 hours of constant play is not bad...
Back in the day when I had loads of free-time, I thought any game that could be beaten in less than 20-hours was a ripoff. I'm so busy these days that I have trouble finding the time to complete even an 8-hour game. I probably won't even start the Elemental campaign until after I've gotten a few sandbox games under my belt.
Only time I'd have a problem with paying early for something is if there wasn't a definite time the goods or service would become available. That is to say that I never preorder a game until it has a firm release date.
The best place to talk about Elemental is in Civ 5 threads bemoaning that game's absurdly high (for a turn-based game) system requirements. People tend to perk up when you casually mention that Stardock is releasing an epic 4x strategy game that can run on netbooks.
i'm one of the "lucky" few, who only recently discovered Elemental...
Seems to be a few of us floating around. Only reason I learned about it was because Stardock sent me an email (so a direct marketing win for Stardock), but I knew nothing about it before that. After about an hour reading the forums and developer journals I knew it was a game I had to have, so I preordered it and have been eagerly awaiting its release fo
Right now, the game requires an install of Impulse and a one-time call home to activate, correct?
No. If you install the game from CD, you can play it as is without ever installing Impulse. Impulse is only necessary if you want game updates (think of it as a specialized web browser, because that's basically what it is). If you bought the digital version then you'll obviously need Impulse to download and install i
does anybody else notice elemental NOT appearing anywhere in the 'My Games' section of Impulse?
I don't have it, either, but I got an email confirming my order, so I know I'm ready to go once it's released.
I keep forgetting that Stardock is more than just a game developer.
