It is beyond the digital gold version but it isn't day 0 either.
How many incremental builds do you have in-house anyway?

I had no reasonable expectation that it would be available before then.
And when, exactly, does the expectation become reasonable? When the CEO of Stardock himself posts in these very forums saying that the game will be available on the morning of the 22nd for beta testers and midday for preorders, is it unreasonable to expect that the game will, in fact, be available
It's out when it's out. It looks like we're getting it a bit early, so that's great. Getting stressed out because it's running a bit late or because retailers broke the street date isn't worth the wasted energy.
Who are you talking to, exactly? I don't see anybody stressing out.

Unless early afternoon has morphed into something else while I wasn't paying attention.
Early afternoon is something else. That's why it's called "early afternoon" and not "midday". Midday is traditionally the 12-o'clock hour. Once the little hand hits the 1, it's no longer midday.

Remember, the release date is the 24th, so anything before that is a privilege.
You'd have a point if we weren't explicitly told that the game was being released today for beta testers and preorders. But since Brad apparently just woke up around 20-minutes ago, they may not get around to actually flipping the switch until this evening some time.
Sad to say, the release trailer to this game is flat out awful - it makes what appears to be a creative and fun magic civ game look like an old-fashioned stodgy mess, and is IMO likely to scare off potential buyers.
I disagree. I didn't even know this game existed until early last week when an email announcement with a link to the trailer appeared in my inbox. After watching the trailer, I thought, "That looks really cool!" I then spent

I'm so busy these days that I have trouble finding the time to complete even an 8-hour game. I probably won't even start the Elemental campaign until after I've gotten a few sandbox games under my belt.

Only time I'd have a problem with paying early for something is if there wasn't a definite time the goods or service would become available. That is to say that I never preorder a game until it has a firm release date.

The best place to talk about Elemental is in Civ 5 threads bemoaning that game's absurdly high (for a turn-based game) system requirements. People tend to perk up when you casually mention that Stardock is releasing an epic 4x strategy game that can run on netbooks.

Only reason I learned about it was because Stardock sent me an email (so a direct marketing win for Stardock), but I knew nothing about it before that. After about an hour reading the forums and developer journals I knew it was a game I had to have, so I preordered it and have been eagerly awaiting its release fo

Impulse is only necessary if you want game updates (think of it as a specialized web browser, because that's basically what it is). If you bought the digital version then you'll obviously need Impulse to download and install i
