When Sword of the Stars was first released, I wasn't too crazy about it. But the subsequent two expansions made the game live up to what is was meant to be. You can read a review of Sword of the Stars: Ultimate Collection here .

One of my favorites:
I don't think there is anything more iconic in the world of sci-fi than the fleet action. Ironically, when you stop to think about it, there are remarkably few fleet actions on the silver screen. Mind you, I am not talking about those fleeting scenes (pun intended) where you have a few ships shooting at each other for a few minutes, but a well-developed battle that is a focal point for a movie. Using that criteria, I can only come up with the following: <
I don't really consider Lost sci-fi. I think the show may better qualify for the "New Wave" label of "speculative fiction".
Don't forget Fred Saberhagen's Beserker series! Great stories about man's unending fight against ancient killing machines. Try Berserkers: The Beginning for a great collection of classic short stories set in the Berserker's universe.
I don't even think Hollywood knows what sci-fi is anymore. Take a look at Cameron's forthcoming $200 million dollar extravaganza, Avatar. Cameron describes it as a sci-fi epic...that takes place on a "jungle world". Jungle world? Since when are sci-fi epics based on jungle worlds? Here's my point: when most sci-fi people think of sci-fi epics, they think of the type of content we so love in games such as GalCiv, Sins, EvE, etc. In other words,
X3 has much more in common with EvE than it does with Sins. And personally, I think EvE is a far better game. I tried and tried to get into a game of X3, but I just don't find it all that interesting compared to EvE.
I've always wondered about that. I thought that my ships were getting some sort of HP bonus from a nearby starbase or something. [e digicons][/e]
Thanks! Any GalCiv player will enjoy Sins. They are birds of a feather with the only real distinction being that GalCiv is turn-based while Sins is RTS.

Great AAR! I have to get around to doing one of these as soon as I finish my Sins AAR . [e digicons]^_^[/e]
15 hours into the campaign.... This is a Scryer News Blast Agamemnon liberated from Armada control Advent High Command has confirmed that Agamemnon has been liberated by naval forces early yesterday. Long contested by both the Armada and the Advent people, Agamemnon, a hospitable world surrounded by metal-rich asteroids, has often served as a staging point for Armada invasions into Advent controlled space.
An upcoming game ya'll might be interested in: Gratuitous Space Battles The idea is that you outfit and deploy a fleet of ships and watch them blow stuff up.
This game actually looks kinda interesting!
Has anyone else noted that the gaming biz has come up with far more interesting sci-fi ideas and visions than anything Hollywood has produced in decades ?!? I hope Stardock gets into the movie business. Anybody for Sins of a Solar Empire: The Movie? [e digicons]B)[/e] Look out Lucas!
I think we might see a Stardock label on this game when it is released.... [e digicons]:frogboy:[/e]
That's a good idea. I have been tossing around some ideas to make a fan site. Right now, I am envisioning a site that just lists other sites and some links to blog posts about Sins etc. Maybe call it The Broadcast Center, or some such name. [e digicons]^_^[/e]
I...er, third you on that. [e digicons][/e]

Specifically: Spies! I want to see some ability to place spies either on planets or fleets, with the ability to conduct some sabotage. Also, I would like to see those planets that revolt due to culture to have a chance of joining the dominant culture's faction. Generally: I would just like to be able to interact with the AI at a higher level. As some of the others pointed out, being able to assign my own missions to the AI would be a must for me.
This is probably one of the most complete examinations of the general health of the PC industry I have ever read: Why the future looks bright for PC gaming Is PC gaming dying, changing or growing? Anyone who answered dying, go and stand in the corner. If you answered either changing or growing, have a biscuit and feel
Is there something wrong with the I-mod website? Whenever I try to learn more about this interesting idea, I get a network time-out. [e digicons]XO[/e]
That really was very well crafted! You have me on the edge of my seat! Isn't it amazing how Sins inspires people? By that, I mean a lot of games inspire people in a negative fashion (i.e., fix this, change that), but Sins inspires people in a positive fashion by triggering all sorts of new ideas to make the game even better and more 'complete' in terms of being the ultimate sci-fi strategy game. It's not about what's wrong as much as it is about what's right!
I agree. I was really looking forward to Dawn of War II and ETW. Now that I have 'em, I find myself playing Sins, EVE and chess (I always play chess [e digicons]O:)[/e] ) much more than either of those titles. DoWII missed the mark in many ways and ETW is just too much like a beta in its current state.
