I was a bit disappointed when I found out that this is going to be a straight to DVD movie, but I am grateful for the effort. Hopefully, this movie will sell well and act as a piece of sales literature for a big studio production. God knows if Transformers can get its own franchise, 40K deserves one of its own!
Very ironic that you mention ewoks when starwars is all of those things that you mentioned, as is the latest star trek movie (minus the politics).
I will give credit to the original Star Wars (episode 4) as being they type of science fiction that I like. SW does have more than a little fantasy to it, but the original movie nailed it (particularly Han Solo). As far as I am concerned, every SW movie since the first
I don't mean to be so down on Avatar but what is galling me is that now that we have the technology to make our sci-fi dreams come true, we are getting one movie after another that squanders the opportunity. There are so many novels out there that have great plots plus amble opportunity to utilize CGI to its fullest (The Moon is a Harsh Mistress, any of the Honor Harrington novels, The Lost Fleet, Hammer's Slammers, any of Ian Banks' stories...on and on and on), but Hollywood is instead
Quoting CrusaderScott, reply 4 ... the Thundercats saving Ferngully. While I don't agree with this, I nearly spat my water at my computer screen when I read it. Easily the best description of 'Avatar' I've read yet.
I can't take credit for that; Hitler said it first . [e digicons]
It looks silly to be honest.
That's pretty much my opinion too. When I heard Cameron saying he was coming back to save cinematic sci-fi, I was excited because sci-fi certainly needs to be saved when it comes to the movies. I had visions of original ideas or even movies based on some classic novels...instead I get the Thundercats saving Ferngully. [e digicons]>:([/e] My expectations are quite low
Thanks! Glad you liked it!
What's this C64 stuff?!? [e digicons]:(O[/e] Atari 800 all the way! Heck, planet Irata is even named after Atari! [e digicons]:inlove:[/e] Great find! Look out Wampus, here I come! [e digicons]:banhammer:[/e]
Chief Administrator Haren Jart stared out the octagonal window that occupied nearly the entire back wall of his office. As he gazed into the inky blackness, one punctuated by countless sparkling diamonds of star systems near and far, Jart allowed his mind to wander. He knew with certitude t
I was purusing Deviant Art ( a site that is quickly becoming one of my favorite haunts) and found this cool GalCiv2 custom desktop theme from a few years back: It seems to be a modification of the Sins of a Solar Empire theme from Stardock's MyColors. I have to admit, the guy who did it did a very nice job!
Thanks! I've got a better idea of how they work now. Since my first post, I built two additional influence bases and maxed them out with all the influence/diplo tech I have at the moment. It seems to have worked as I created friendly culture bubbles around my bases now. [e digicons]:D[/e] Thanks again!
Ahh. Got it, thanks! (I'd purchased GalCiv 2: UE last December, but never really got into it for some reason. I dusted it off the other day and now I can't stop playing it! [e digicons]:smitten:[/e] ).
Hey All, How do you stop a planet from rebelling? I recently colonized an aquatic world in a region of space dominated by the Dregin. I thought I wouldn't have a problem because I have an influence starbase in the area with an embassy and an franchise center. Even though my approval rating is at 100%, the planet still wants to rebel. How can I stop this? Thanks!
At last, a television show that gets me excited. Check out this vid for Slingers: Slingers It hasn't been picked up yet but I bet it will soon! It has a great "Cowboy Bebop" style to it and is refreshingly original (well...except for the CB vibe, but hey, if TV wants to rip that show off, more power to 'em!). Here's hoping that the series is as good as this demo reel suggests! [e digicons]B)[/e] <!
That's okay, EvE doesn't look that good either. [e digicons]^_^[/e]
Did anybody catch the official trailer for EvE Online's Dominions? You can see it here. Two things struck me about this movie: 1) CCP sure knows how to make a good trailer! I wish Hollywood would take a crack at an EvE movie. But then again, I just know that it would be 90 minutes of watching Shia Labeouf stumble around on a planet that looks suspiciously like southern California (ever notice how every modern sc-fi film is strang
I just play. When I feel something significant happens, I take a screenshot. When I am done playing, I start to write and let the narrative flow, popping in the pictures as I go (most of the screenies never get used). That's pretty much it.
Because a lot of crazy things can happen in a big galaxy.... There are six trillion stories in the Naked Galaxy. This is just one of them…. In the an
Wow, didn't realize this discussion was still going on! Thanks for all the links! I, too, am eagerly awaiting Infinity - it sounds awesome, I just hope it doesn't become vaporware.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rgEj_N8_hus&feature=player_embedded Or is it just another game nothing alike with sins http://www.ntronium.com/Armada2526%20Home.html
Sins doesn't have to worry, but GalCiv, and to a lesser extent Sword of the Stars, does. GalCiv is showing its age and but for it's excellent planetary development model, would be completely forgettable. If anything, this game r
It is a hard habit to break. I still catch myself slipping from time to time. Heck, even a lot of naval historians make that mistake!
Great story, C.I.! Finally, someone else who isn't afraid to combine some screenshots with some narration! [e digicons]5*[/e] " For no particular reason besides it sounding awesome, my guys are called the Twisted Legion" LOL! [e digicons]\o/[/e] One tip: In the world of naval operations, when referring to the name of a vessel, you don't need to put "the" in front of the name. I still catch myself making
If you implement most the expansion ideas that have been expressed over the years, you would wind up with a game that is quite different from Sins. Sins works as a beer & pretzels strategy game; that is, a game with just enough depth to make the tactics and strategy interesting but not overwhelming. Most of the expansion ideas would blow that elegance out of the water and wind up turning Sins into something closer to EvE Online or X3, a sci-fi game that is far deeper and requires fa
Most of these extra features are just bait to get you to pre-order the game or purchase it upon release. If they were essential to the game, they would be included in every version. Just ignore it and buy the game if/when you are ready. Sooner or later, all this extra stuff will be made available as part of a "gold" package or as free or modded-in content.
Crusader, how did you get your pictures into your post? I can't remember how it works..... I'm planning on making my own little AAR, inspired by yours
What you have to do is first upload your shots to a picture hosting site, such as Photobucket or Webshots. Once uploaded, copy the direct link URL and paste it into the window that pops up when you hit the little tree button (picture insert) up top.
