Sorry its actually a bit complicated. Go to Elemental\data\ English\core improvements. Find the Empire and Kingdom "Special Improvements" file and open it up to the pub building at the end of the xml. Change the prestige bonus from 1 to say 10 or 20. This will allow medium growth, somewhere around normal prestige with 10-15 cities. At first your cities will upgrade instantly, then taper of at 5 or so prestige per town. Increase the number to have a larger empire as needed. You will

I have begun to realize the fundamental flaw with forums is that we all respond faster and in greater number than it is realistic to expect from the developers of the game. We may all come to a consensus here about quality and hopes and the vitality of the game, but no one is going to change anything. I think it is time to just wait till January 2012 to see if the game is any good. I am assuming that is when the game will actually come out give a fall release

I don't post new ideas very often ever since they took my treasure map idea out of WoM. Now that we have a new game to look forward to I wanted to put up a few spell ideas that I think would work very well with the new direction. Hopefully there is still room to take really good ideas into consideration. Curses. Now, most people don't understand the function of curses, so I will educate. A curse is not something you simply cast on your enemy to weaken him or her. That would be

DrJBHL, Publishing a paper doesn't guarantee one's right to royalties on use of data collected by the scientific entity. You might get academic credit for your ingenuity but that won't pay the investors. Patenting a gene is not patenting the actual physical object. It is information that is used in genetic research. In a way I agree with Scoutdog. It is very akin to territory ownership by large corporations. This commodity is dependent on regulation to p

I don't think you understand the concept of patent ownership. Pharmacuedicals obtain a patent to test drugs in the exact same way they patent genetic code. All patents are limited ownership and over time become generic. A patent protects capitalistic rights on property. This is merely intellectual property. If I am a genetic research enterprise and find some valuable piece of genetic code, I patent it to prevent others from stealing my research. That is all ownership does. It is orde

While I am not surprised at the moral revulsion you all have expressed, its time to wake up. I took a course on this exact subject at school last year. The truth is that patenting genetic code is all part of the research process. Patents make genetic code a commodity that can be traded and sold in the research market between corporations and research schools. Universities find and patent, then sell to pharmaceutical corporations to test drugs that are eventually distribute

Reply to harbers in War of Magic

Harbors, downloads, tech, seafaring, what, no sense, Also* Beyond all that, I agree. The game slows down at many points and the quest system is not good enough to fill the expansion gap. Harbors have been deleted. They are just too buggy for the devs to fix.

Quoting tanafres, "For example, every level of weapon is better than the last - obsoletes it completely, really. So now I have a choice: pick a much better weapon, or get some other basic tech that I didn't choose last time." I think you are still not grasping the way it was supposed to work. In this example you wouldn't be likely to get the improved weapon next time. It would not be totally random what you got each time. There would b

I have a mod in progress that has 20 people per tile. This is going to make all that animation work useless.... [e digicons]X|[/e]

I hate to break it to you, but Eyes of the Eagle is the worst spell in the game. Mage: "Meh... I don't feel like walking this season. I think I'll explore two moves in every direction and get rid of all this icky mana." Would probably be better to have the size of the revealed area set to intelligence and the cost set to the number of tiles revealed.

@TorinReborn Yes, much of your frustrations come from design elements that were a great idea, but have been poorly implemented. I would like to tell you about how great the tech system was supposed to be made. It was based on you searching the past for old knowledge, not knowing what you'll find. Each time a discovery is made you choose from a random list. You can choose the basic area of research but not the outcome. There is supposed to be rare and random technology po

Okay I don't have this problem because I made my own map with adequate resources and I changed the prestige building values. Instead of 3 prestige you get 30 from an inn and so on. The effect was that my initial 3 cities leveled instantly. When I got to 10 cities I was getting 6 prestige per turn. Then I built pubs to double it. At 15 cities I had to get theaters and now I am leveling off at 3 prestige per turn. This equation is, well, bollocks. If you want to enjoy this gam

Prestige is set to only allow a few cities if you want growth. They have yet to account for people that play on a larger scale than a small map. Each city you build seems to half your prestige. I suggest increasing the prestige buildings effects by a factor of 10. No dev has acknowledged this problem as of yet. Though we all know about it.

I hate to be this guy, but in C&C3 you could open a teleport hub as scrin that allowed for unfair access to an enemy's base. That would be a great shadow spell for this game. Shadow Gate would be limited to two points on the map, only castable once every century (400 turns). This is a great way to balance out the unfair advantage because both sides could use it to attack. It would allow for very far away nations to fight without needing to play diplomat with every nation in between. I

I find it is better to think of WoM as an alpha beta to FE. FE is going to be much better and it seems WoM is just about reaching the ceiling of what will be added or fixed. It should have been scrapped a year ago but some measure of pride and honor kept it going till now. FE will have all the fun parts that we wanted with WoM: questing, live interactive environment, good magic system, good AI, and last but not least well made tactical combat. Its nice to have a rough game and plenty of editi

Okay you guys are making some very good points here. It is too powerful to disregard. I agree it should either be nerfed or split into multiple spells or something more brilliant like Inteligence affecting number of tiles teleported. I remember awhile back when we all thought we could use attribute based data to decide spell effect. That was crushed by realizing how bad some of those functions worked. They were really a mess. Hopefully the new game has all that cleaned up so tha

This is ridiculous. Airwalk only works within one's borders. Only 12 units can be in a single stack. Only Titan's Call can teleport one's whole army into an enemy's territory and its a very good spell to counter volcano. Also, having a single race, or perhaps two races that can Airwalk while the rest of us are forced to use roads varies the gameplay. It will be like fighting angels. I really do not see how this ruins the gameplay. It isn't as if every unit will be using it

I thought the whole point of 1.29f was to avoid saying 1.3 until these kind of minor cleanup bugs were fixed...
