PAX and pre-orders were in early September and there are a fair number of us in that queue behind you I imagine.

Wondering if I should worry because beta is released today but checking my account earlier I noticed their is no charge from stardock on the card I used to order Elemental. Is this the sign of a problem or to be expected?

Then don't forget we send in our bug reports and suggestions. You should be filling out a form for them that looks like this: Binary is a simple language and keeping it in binary or hexdecimal makes it easier for coders like Frogboy to understand ;)

But history goes back quite a ways and I'm not sure you want to include all the 19th century as "Honor and Duty' as the Civil War, Buffalo Soldiers, and Indian Wars were examples of quite the opposite. It is no more a reflection on the modern military th

I want defensive magic to have a lot more avenues to go down than just the binary works/doesn't work. You should have defensive spells that make the spell go off on a different random target. You should have advanced defensive spells that reflect the unknown spell being cast on you back on the target. You should have defensive spells that drain the mana of the enemy caster if you're successful. You should have defensive spells that are very hard to penetrate.</

I'd be interested to hear you blog more on this subject Frogboy. This is actually helpful for me as I'm considering creating another startup company. I've done it before with partners and have an idea of what I'm in for. I'm currently tired of unemployment (laid off twice in little more than a year and can't find work though actively seeking and previously a desirable candidate). I kind of relate to both sides of the whole litigation thing as I've seen both sides for why it ex

The cloth map of the Alpha PAX build of E:WOM blows Master of Magic away. Seeing as I still play Master of Magic now and then, I think even the cloth map is going to be hell of fun. The 3D graphics will just make everything look kewl while doing it.
If you look at it as an individual art piece and the buyers have to have just that one then yes you could say that. If you look at it as a product and that most people are fans not so much of "Demigod" so much as RTS games... t

I didn't go see the SWTOR panel and I'm glad I didn't as the people I heard who went to it were disappointed by the combat gameplay. Complaints were that it looked nothing like it was portrayed in the videos. I don't know how to take that complaint though as the combat never is what is shown in the FMVs. Starcraft 2 played awesome though. They had player vs player games setup at the blizzard booth and it was rocking. It seems much more tactical even than original Starcraft. Playing wi

Look at anime fansubs.
In some countries if it isn't sold, available for sale, or copyrighted in your country then it is legal to "pirate" or make copies of it for private use. For instance last I knew the U.S. does not enforce foreign copyrights if the product is not sold in the U.S.
Well, that's sort of how Supply and Demand economics work, isn't it? Unfortunate, but that's just the way it is.
Whoa, was that one thought through? What is the "supply" on a digital distribution? The supply = Infinite because there is no limit to the number of times it can be copied. Which makes what happen on a standard supply vs demand equation mathematically?</
Both of which are something the game publisher, and NOT Stardock, have any control over. All they can do is make suggestions.
You're kidding right? Stardock can tell EA to take their Securom and shove it. Yes, it means hurting sales (at least short term) but it worked for Steam and I believe in the long term customers would trust Impulse even more. Besides it should be pointed out that EA's bad behavior goes way b

I new Impulse would take off. People want digital distribution , it just makes sense on too many levels and the demand is through the roof while game distributors try to clamp down on their end customers. But my advice for Stardock with Impulse is that you've got the quantity, don't lose the focus on quality. - I'm thinking about DRM and region coding.

26 Replies 69,568 Views

Sorry, having EA spreading its abusive DRM around on Impulse just made me lose a lot of respect for it. Not enough for me to stop buying from it, but it will make me 10x more cautious about any purchase I make on there. Even beyond the DRM there is the issue of the rest of EA's multitudes of sleaze that as a company I wouldn't want to be associated with lest I be mocked at the next PAX convention. Take for instance <a title="EA in the news" href="http://www.ctrlaltdel-online.c

Incest does not take generations to produce debiliating effects. It just often takes generations for NEW debiliations to appear. Any recessive trait carried in your family (sickle cell anemia, hemophilia, color blindness female baldness, black hair, etc) has a very high rate of suddenly showing up. These traits are in fact often worst in the first few generations as "natural selection" (whether natural or not) may help take care of some of it even though it will always be a recurring

Whoa EA? [e digicons]8(|[/e] What happened to not supporting Draconian DRM on Impulse?

113 Replies 356,549 Views

Give them some credit, they probably spent about .3 seconds thinking about the phrasing while rushedly trying to prepare a decent looking build for PAX that wasn't highlighting leveling at all. I took this picture because the screen was rather well developed and was nothing I had seen or heard about so far. I think the Stardock did a great job on their alpha build for PAX and that stuff like this will naturally be improved during Beta.

By "magic system" do you mean just the sleek interface will be cut out, or that there simply won't be magic in the game? The 1st beta "Beta 1" will lack magic completly, but we'll be updating Beta 1 on the road to Beta 2. You'll probably see magic around Beta 1c. edit: Ther

Brad said that land modification was going to be a definite set of strategies that you could use in Elemental. He demonstrated that you could "Turtle" in your main city by raising Volcanos all around it for example and then slowly inherit all the other empires of the world by marrying off your children. Anyways the balance to them from the presentation Brad gave on Saturday at PAX was that there was an avenue of magic research into defensive magic. You can ignore it at your own peril
