I agree with the sentiment here. The last few updates have changed Elemental from a fairly mediocre game with a lot of potential to a genuinely enjoyable game (which still has a lot of potential!) 2a seems like a good idea; do something to represent loyalist members of the populace fighting. This wouldn't need to interact with tactical battles at all. Caravans are the "Trading" tech in the diplomacy tree, at least for Kingdoms.

I can't see them making a marketing push while unhappy with the state of the game.

Fun fact: You can play the non-beta version. Although downgrading is a hassle. Betas tend to be buggy, that is a thing that happens. If you don't like it, I'd recommend you uncheck "show prerelease versions" in Impulse, and thus only get updates when they are reasonably un-buggy.

This is organizationally convenient once you end up with a lot of spells, and fluffily represents the idea that you're amassing a magical library. If you can afford to cast ten 20 mana spells in one turn then you probably deserve to be able to. On the other hand if the game is to become more like MOM and have epic-level spells, then multi-turn casting and a per-turn limit will probably inevitably evolve

Funny thing, I was considering recently what an RPG made by Stardock would look like. It's not something they've done before though, I don't know how much of their resources could be used for that. Your specific plan has a lot of flaws, though.

You are paying the extra gold for getting it from a whole different tree. The normal Karrazan is indeed Champion only. Or at least, that's been my experience.
