Quests to unlock artifacts' powers sounds like it could be an interesting idea. And the idea about having to 'reforge' an item could be interesting as well. And yes, I smell a slider or two as well. [e digicons]|-)[/e]

Works just fine on my system. My biggest hope however is that the long (1 minute or so) loading screens dont occur before EVERY battle during a campaign. That could easily kill it. Another thing I've noticed, although I'm not sure if its intentional (demo time limit) or a bug, but so far it has crashed to desktop twice.

And supposedly there is ship capturing... I say supposedly because my download is still at 99% :( 1.5 hours at 99% and counting... Edit: WOOT! as soon as I posted it finished!
I only did the tutorials on a 8800gtx and an old core2duo.. 1600x1200, pretty much all settings maxed (4x AA), and windowed mode. It ran just fine. It has horrid loading times, though, especially when you change video options. Anyway, I loved the naval combat, but I wonder why you would ever want to use scatter shot or chain shot (the "kill crew" and "kill sails") when the standard ball shot seems to do the job faster

Make bridges appear demolished, causing the soldiers to waste turns trying to repair it.

Just remember, by this time the larger countries in the world were doing a large amount of trading. So, unless the rest of the world is the same make sure to include descriptions/maps of it as well. Russia for example began exporting huge amounts of food during the great de

Ya, I don't have my hopes up for a release any time before 2010. Supposedly the work on the engine is pretty much complete now though. Last I know of, the dev was working on the model of Earth and it's solar system, which will be the onyl non-procedurally generated stuff... After that, I think work on the game itself will begin.

I think Sun Tzu sums it up pretty well. Something to the tune of 'An army in the field requires massive resources and so impoverishes the peasants. An army in the country drives up prices and so destroys the livelyhood of the peasants.'
But then quick raiding will become dominant, and speed kills more the strength- especially if razing is easy. The best counter to stacks of doom is quick armies doing economic damage behind it.
The thing is though, economic damage doesn't matter when they already have a stack of doom.

One of the problems with the instruments (unless they can be upgraded?) is that if you turn off IDS, it shows your speed, but only up to 4km (per min i think? not sure of unit) which is a speed achieved in about 2 seconds of afterburner. Which means the velocity instrument is completely useless a majority of the time if IDS is off. As for me, I think I will wait for <a href="http://www.infinity-universe.com/Infinity/index.php?option=com_content&task=blogcategory&id=17&Itemid=93&am

16 capship fleet in SoaSE is my stack of choice. IMO, if there are extremely powerful units they should be one per army. Give them all huge egos so they refuse to work with one another. Or something. To deal with the "huge omfg 10000000 troop" armies, have logistics effects based on size. Army speed for example. 10,000 people can't move nearly as quickly or efficiently as 10 people can. Also logistical things such as commanding units who need to be payed more. So if you make a huge un

I downloaded the game demo... First off, I can say "- Realistic zero gravity inertia based 'Newtonian' style flight model including complete 3-way rotation and 3-way direction control with optional variable input. An advanced inertial dampening system helps keep flight control simple in space, atmospheres, and gravity fields. The physics system has been enhanced for improved realism based on ship type and design, including thruster-to-weight and acceleration/deceleration agility

Wikipedia is a great place to learn about such things. After looking at the wiki for global cooling, the fears were based almost entirely on temperature graphs. They just did not have the ability to create accurate climate models. They were able to make educated guesses about greenhouse gasses and particulate effects, but unable to create any definative models due to a lack of knowledge in subjects such as ocean and atmospheric systems. Now we have much more understanding than 30 years ago. F
co2 is a minor climate gass, about 4% atm. over half of the climate effect comes from condensed water. Condensed water rises at the tempature rises. Climate gasses in the atmosphere disperses heat(light) in all directions. So the heat increase comes from that light is longer in circulation on earth with that with a higher density of climate gasses . This also means that the north and south pole will have the gr

You can install Impulse and use that to get your game back. Impulse is basicly the same thing as Steam, a digital distribution system. As long as you have the serial, you should have no problem getting your game back. Most games now a days have some way or another to get them back as long as you have proof of purchase; whether it be the box, a receipt, the serial, ect. Many come with services such as Impulse or Steam which let you redownload your game with no questions asked. Ser

As far as micro goes, the part I find the worst is when I am focusing on a military attack/invasion, and yet I still have to deal with just as many economic problems requiring microing as I would without a military invasion going on. In GalCiv2, I like the largest sized maps (epic wars ftw). It isn't to bad in peacetime, since I am merely upgrading planets and managing research, but in times of war I have to deal with planet upgrades, manage research, mess around with ship production, gather
