Ok, this idea is very inspired by the Total War series. On loading screens, Total War games have quotes from historical figures, philosophers, ect. Which lead me to an intriguing idea... What if Elemental had quotes on it's loading screens. Not from historical figures in reality, but from historical figures in game lore. They could be from in game quotes or just made up stuff... As long as they sound insightful it could be interesting.

Ya, I had to restart my comp after ETW install since it kept bugging, freezing, and generally slowing down my computer. This was probably due to it going into sleep mode half way through install though...
80% downloaded... but I don't think I will play it for a few days. This is because I got Rome: Total War gold edition free with my preorder on steam... I am having so much fun playing Rome I might not play Empire for awhile [e digicons]:P[/e]
This makes me think of a total war style tactical battle... But with dragons!!! Dragons + Total War battles = EPIC WIN!
that was a very old comment by frogboy, Its the last I heard too, but they have not really been pushing that recently as far as I've seen. It would be really awesome, but I'm not sure how they would do it without having to create several vastly different layer detail for each model. Not just normal drop in poly count, but on completetly different scales with leaf and grass physics. It would b
Elemental too revolutionary? Na, things go down in history for being new and great. Complexity is good when you don't have to mess with it if you don't want to. Pretty much everything except making war and expanding your empire will be able to be turned to AI control. And besides, Stardock hasn't let us down yet! Just remember, when a game company gets too conservative, they go the way of EA. Hated, profits going down, and EVIL.
Have you ever read the writings of Paul Dirac? He is a brilliant mathematician and he used to believe that mathematical theories were right because they were elegant and fit the known facts. Practically all other mathematicians felt the same way. They were wrong. Many theories were proven wrong even though they perfectly explained what they described. Just because a theory explains somet

The OP mentions D&D, and that's a perfect point of reference. D&D Online was the MMORPG I'd wanted to make since I was a kid. But the implementation of the game is such that you leave a main city and bam! you're in a dungeon. The designers wanted to have friends play a complete adventure wi

Some think the universe is expanding. Into what? And how can we know how big it is if it is expanding? I should have said "I have no idea." (Or better yet, I should have said nothing ). When I hear 90 billion light years, it means nothing to me. I can understand 1,000 miles.
How big is the universe? Nobody who doesn't bother to do some research really knows...
Fixed. Its estimated at around 90-100 billion lightyears. Heft, before you say any more, I suggest you read this, or at least the first few paragraphs: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Universe

My favorite was way back... I played on a huge multi map with all the AI on 'unfair,' with me as Vasari. Teams were unlocked. And so, I was stuck with about 7 empires all attacking me at once. I had a 16 capship fleet, with no frigs (mainly because my income was low from losing alot of planets and the constant huge attacks killed any frigs I did produce). The memorable moment was when 4 huge AI attacks came all in a row. The first one came, and by the time the battle turned in my favor a

Lets not place a brand new untested engine on a brand new airplane without any backup options. I want the game to succeed. 2) The traditional trading system we'v
Ah, ok. I guess I'm not quite up to date on a bunch of info pertaining to the big bang. Thanks for explaining it! :)
No. Because said 'phenomenal & super-massive singularity' itself would be at the center of its own galaxy. And even if it weren't, and collided with another galaxy, it wouldn't just suck the whole galaxy up. The extreme pressures caused by a matter falling into black holes (LOTS of matter trying to get into the same place at the same time) cause the falling material to form an accretion disk (and large jets of matter that
The universal entropy must increase, but local entropy can decrease. For this example, assume you have a peice of ice and a glass of water in an isolated system. When you put ice in the glass of water, the entropy of the water decreases. The entropy of the ice increases by an amount slightly higher than the amount by which the water decreased. So there we have a simple example of decreasing entropy on a local scale. Other examples would include the sun giving off radiation (sun's en

After leaving a dungeon a little speech bubble appears over their heads: "LOL we just roflpwned
I like the bit about adventurers going around and exploring dungeons on their own. Little things like that help the world to feel alive and just make the game more fun. I also like how micromanagement is more or less optional, some aspects of the game I expect I will want to control every little detail of and others I will be content to let the AI handle stuff automatically. Also a question: Are the trade caravans just a
I think this issue comes back to the issue of steamrolling and 'killer stacks.' Many times, the player with the killer stack is able to steamroll any opposition with ease. The player with the best economy is often able to build a killer stack the fastest, and thus underdogs in the economy get absolutely owned by a stack. I think as long as it takes a fairly long amount of time for two empire's borders to meet, due to lots of area between two starting cities, both players should have a decent

Ew.... AGP sucks. Period. That said, Stardock min-specs are usually somewhat forgiving. You won't be able to max out the settings, but it should run. Just make sure you have a decent enough CPU. Thats something that strategy games often need more than graphics, especially in large single player games. If you plan on doing multiplayer, the CPU won't need to be quite as good since it will not have to run the AI controlling enemy groups.
