On the magical side, Gondolin (an elven city in the Elder Days long before the Lord of the Rings took place) was hidden physically by an impassible mountain range and magically by the power of the elven lords who lived there. I've taken the latter bit to mean that it was basically warded against scrying.
Before being found and promptly roflpwned by Melkor... "PEOPLE SHOULD NOT BE AFRAID OF THEIR GOVERNMENT, GOVERNMENT SHOULD BE AFRAID OF THEIR PEOPLE" Unless of course they are far right wingers, in which case they will be paranoid and afraid of everything no matter what.

I really wish there was a way to merge threads... The 'Age of the Universe' thread would fit so nicely with this one... Also, it didn't actually go 'bang,' thats just a term used to describe the explosion of energy. Since there was no matter at the time (I think), there was no sound. Somewhat like how the media has dubbed the Higgs particle the 'god particle' due to misquoting a physicist... If I remember correctly he said something along the lines of 'finding the higgs partic

Ya, make sure it stays cool. We have a computer here which had a CPU which got all dusty... Then it would frequently heat up to around 75-80C, on a CPU meant to be no hotter than around 65C. It would shut off without warning frequently. So make sure you have a good enough cooling system and that it is dust free. Because as we all know... DUST = BAD

Science never proves ANYTHING. Ever. All science does is disproves things. A hypothesis which is not proven false by experiments gets to become a theory, at which point it is pretty much accepted to be true, or as true as we currently can know.
For example, in March of 2008 we had a Gamma Ray Burst(related to supernovae, star go boom) that was found to be located 7.5 billion light years away, and it was visable to the naked eye... so in other words, that light took 7.5 billion years to reach us. Now, coupled with that, imagine what it would of done to us had it been closer, and how massive the star must of been! These kinds of discovers rearranged my thinking of how fragi

I personally see the question of the mind in a way that is somewhat like a 1940 scientist would see a modern supercomputer. They may have some vague understanding of many of the principles involved, but there are gaps in knowledge which renders a comprehensive understanding impossible for the time being. In time, however, we will have enough knowledge to make very accurate laws about how the mind operates. I am fairly sure there are no 'magical fairy dust' parts of the brain which do no
On the grand scale of things not knowing the age of the universe is not really so bad. It's not like there's much practical use for such information unless you're a physicist. I personally find it more of a shame that many folks can't find Africa on a globe.
Its right below mexico right? :P The education system in general needs much work... Preferably interest group free work.

Mass and energy are interchangeable.... you can get mass from energy, and energy from mass. Theory of relativity. Light simply does not have enough energy to escape a black hole at a certain distance, called the event horizon. Atleast, from what I understand.
Nope. Light has 0 mass, since it moves at the speed of light. It

Ya, demos don't tend to have the last minute edits to the game code for optimization and minor bugfixes. The part that annoys me is that we are stuck playing the same 2 maps for the next 2 weeks :( As long as they fix crashing and those horrible horrible loading times, the end product will be very enjoyable. But if they don't fix the length of loadscreens by release... Its not gonna be fun at all.

EDIT: Mumblefrantz - is a creator without beginning crazier than a multiverse without a biginning?
First of all, creationism isn't a theory. It isn't even a hypothesis. It is utterly untestable and therefore not science. Also, what is a 'beginning?' A beginning and end are properties of time. Time is a prop
Membrane Theory is basically a theory given to be true in science.
No its not. They have not found (to my knowledge) a way to test it, therefore it currently falls under the same catagory as UFOs and creationism. Not to mention, there are multiple theories contending to fill this particular gap in our knowledge... I'll edit again in a minute with a link to at least one other.
