The reason given was that the studio genuinely felt it was ready for release, but I tend to 75% agree with you. Actually, I think the August vs. February thing doesn't have much merit. Screw the retail. The people who pre-ordered and ran beta did not buy retail, and those are the people you need to please first. Further, it was stated a long time ago in the Galciv2 forums that the profit

I don't post often, but when I do, I hope it's thoughtful. I'm not trying to be mean or cutthroat, but why was the game not pushed back until February? You've stated before that the success of Elemental was NOT what floated the company. Didn't you have the option of keeping the team on it until it was polished until it gleamed? (I mean, if that was October, just two months after release, you could have worked until then, and then just sat on Elemental
I did adjust scroll speed settings, as it was HORRIFICALLY slow on default.
I invariably have an issue where I move the mouse to the right side of my monitor but the game scrolls to the lower right. Scrolling the screen left, top or bottom of the screen works properly.
It happens to me as well. This can be confirmed. In my case, I thought it was caused by multiple monitors. How is your setup? Are they distinct monitors, or is it a continuous desktop
I agree. But I am a fan of finding the best fit. I have no idea how they've implemented it, but it could be that they're still figuring things out for themselves. Thus I like to bounce ideas around, for your (and their) consideration. I ain't complaining with how they've implemented, as I haven't seen it. But I do care.
Coincidentally, if you look in that screenshot, the sovereign is showing, even though in the city.
I've also noticed that the repeatable researches didn't work correctly. In fact, the more I researched the combat tree, the smaller I had to make squads! At first I lost companies (they cost as much as one unit, but took the full 10 unit time), then I lost squads and was down to parties as the biggest I could actually make and get multiple units out of.
Possible way to address the no-champion problem (the "whatever" I mentioned above): After thought, tactics could be on a civ level (and thus avoid the problem with multiple/no champions in an army). Perhaps we could have the highest tactics in the army is used or the civ level if no champion is in the army. Civ level might be best. Maybe fallen could start with a slightly higher level as well? Not sure, but this might be able to
I know we haven't seen tactical combat. I know. This isn't a whine thread, this isn't a "gimmie back continuous turns." The dev's have stated that it wasn't as fun, and hey, they had a chance to play it, we didn't. This is, however, a serious idea about a tactical combat implementation that would not require a rework of the system and I feel would be a fresh, original, and interesting implementation. I don't care about what other strategy games have done before
Also against having a limit on the number of units/tyle. Bill_Door said it well enough. However...I do say that instead of showing individuals on one tile, make them take up more. A gargantuan army shouldn't all fit on one square - perhaps ever 1000 people/army adds a universal square to the whole army. It's still one unified group, but it takes up more space. Unless, of course, 1x1 tile is a massive size. Which it could be.[/
I did not manage to get a screenshot of this issue. However, if anyone else sees this, grab one! I received a potion (I feel like it was from a quest, but it may have been a cave (wolves)) that increased the combat speed of the drinker by 0.0. I tried it out, and sure enough, my combat speed didn't change.
You will notice the black blobs toward the top of the screen. In full screen, these are extremely noticable. Did not happen initially, unknown trigger. Persists intermittently, even through game restart+load. DXDIAG: http://pastebin.com/ZHyZQVpX I was unable to grab the .err file, my apolo
Occurs for heroes as well as soveriegn. (In case it matters)
Nice to know it isn't just me. Just curious though, how much effort does it take to "cripple" the game for the beta, as opposed to using the full asset suite?
Be sure you have pre-release versions turned on. Hit the menu in the top left and hit the check mark beside it.
"We are currently running ahead of schedule so that date is looking pretty firm." Good to hear! "We do, however, invite beta testers to give any feedback they would like at this point even if they think it’s something we’re going to address." Was that a typo? ;-)
Also making the animations have a random start delay/whatever would help. That way they aren't in the same spot in the same animation at the same time. (In addition to the above). Should be ~3 minutes work.
CHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARGE! Irony: if it had been out at all earlier, I'd have downloaded it and fired it up. However, I'm gone for the weekend camping... so more waiting for me! ARGH! *TWITCH* (not a complaint. Just humorous. Also, it's appear in in Impulse, and I don't have a receipt for being charged?)
Speaking of combat, is this a modern screen, or an old one?
Considering I loaded the game, sat through the generation phase and then had that standard .... WHAT? .... moment, and that was as far as I got, I hereby propose for the slaughtering: Sir Puffypants Its no wonder everyone can't wait to get him killed.
Stardock has already demonstrated that they are at least willing to consider alternative creatures: Which I think (personally) is fantastic (that screenshot is pretty awesome). I think the fallen is an excellent way of exploring "alternate" creatures. These will probably be summonable, because can you imagine outfitting something like
I wholeheartedly request necromancy. At least put the assets in there so I can make a mod! I almost always play the necromancers. Not because I like dead things, but because I like being able to summon an army. And really, it's not much different. Instead of a troll in my army, or dragons, I have lots and lots of undead. Skeletons could be weak/melee only, but some of the more advanced magics could have liches, wraiths, etc. I persona
They have been continuing to work on combat. It (so far) has not been revealed to the public in video form. It's not in the beta yet either. (well, auto-resolve is, but nothing else)
I heard bad things about the Russian version, but given that its been released for at least a year, people were hoping that a number of bugfixes had been introduced. I don't know though.
Yeah that's the impression I got, but I was hoping I was wrong. Not.... that HOMM is really suited to an online only anyway.
