Frogboy, you mention pacing. You also mention that three of the tech trees aren't fully in the initial beta2. Is there a particular aspect of pacing we should be watching? I figure that over half the tech tree not fully implemented at this stage is going to affect things significantly. Also, please shoot for Thursday, I'm out of town this weekend [e digicons][/e] . (on the other hand, that might make the wait easier if it slips, so

it is closed. Open to those who preorder (though they have stated open later on at some time). It is through impulse, however.

Fardeil: Unfortunately, 1 turn=1 year. This makes it a bit hard to link it to astral things, as a year CAN be a rather long period. Unless this is like a brown dwarf star or something and so a earth-like planet was really close and a year is a couple of days... Hmmm....

This may be old news, but whoah. Seriously, http://www.gamespot.com/pc/rpg/heroesofmightandmagiconline/index.html?tag=result%3Btitle%3B0 (website) http://homm.91.com/index/ No info on it yet, but I thought I'd post it. Personally, I think the idea is a little... odd. Open beta starts June 11th.

[quote who="Tasunke" reply="4" id="2644816"]One idea I had earlier was that Constant-Effect defensive spells could have a "mana burn" ... where if a City (or Army) force field costs 20 mana burn ... and you have 100 max mana .... then as long as the spell is active you only have access to 80 max mana, meaning that the mana will not regenerate beyond your Maximum minus the mana you are currently burning. Additionally, the turn you invest it costs 20 mana to initiate. Meaning, that

Sigh. Don't get me wrong, I've enjoyed my HOMM and all those. Battles have just sounded so new and fresh all along, that it seems so stale and old to revert back to that mechanic. Elemental is SO different in other areas. And I liked that. I liked innovation. I'm sure combat will be fun, but... I don't know, I can't put it in words. I wonder how easy it is to modify

Nice. This may have been mentioned, but why is there Lake Gandru on one Continent, and Gandru River on the other? Major historical figure?

Really? Oh, well that's really depressing. Why would they do that? Stop popping my bubble! [e digicons]>:([/e] [e digicons][/e] (not actually mad, but I hope you're wrong all the same. No offense :-) ) Well, how should we account for his explicitly stating in a journal just two weeks or so ago that simultaneous turns were in? GUYS! I was just cogitating, and I noticed some SHTUFF. Okay, I completely reserve the right to change my mind/whatever after I get my hands on tactical battles. But there are a several different proposals here: 1) I go, you go, Traditional Turn Based. Think Heroes of Might and Magic, or Chess. I go, then you go, then I go... This is typically done by moving one unit, because otherwise the player that went first would

Copy and paste does work though. P.S. Why is the engine named after a (albeit awesome) fruit? BTW, if you've never had a kumquat, go get one. They're both sweet and sour depending on whether you're tasting rind or meat.

This is a really quick rehash of that shot in the most recient build of the game. Going back and forth I can see spots where the old shot trumps the current one: - The old river was bendy and natural (it was jsut a decal at that point...no real river code at that point), the new one hugs the tiles too tightly. Thank goodness. I have absolutely no qualms about buying expansions, but I despise nickle-and-dime DLC for two reasons: 1) Expansions are usually well-rounded with content for everyone (mod tools are updated, maybe a new campaign, certainly new monsters, new multiplayer modes, etc). You buy it and you get lots of new content to play with. It's also easier to keep everyone on the same page. 2) Can you imagine how hard it would be

Brad has stated (in another post) that those videos were never intended to be released. He was just showing it to some retail guys and PR released them. ( or something like that ) The combat IS more detailed than that (though the auto-resolve option will remain), and this is why he did not mention it in the video. [edit] I haven't watched THOSE videos yet (slow internet here) but I think they are the same ones Brad talks

Nevermind, I think I'm talking more off topic than I am on. [e digicons]X|[/e] However, yes, you have. Perhaps I should have hunted it up and played it. I just have an idea of the most awesomeness the game would be (for me personally), but I've never played the source of inspiration!

Erm, well, even a turn, really. To someone who knows nothing about the game, that's the only glimpse they got. There's a lot that wasn't shown. No magic No turns No control at all No strategy (hence the rpg comments) Now your comment highlights the difference between what we know, and what they saw in that battle. That's a quick battle, but there are strategy games out there where you walk up with a unit,

I thought it odd that the two videos were on the same map (different playthroughs, obviously). But I shrugged and happily watched them anyway. Frogboy, for my part, I enjoyed the RPG aspect. I think it is THE best solution to early game "let's wait around, oh! I have a scout now!"-type play. However, I did cringe at the combat bit, because to so many people (I'm not thinking the people here. We're here because we drool at this type of game)

I have to admit, that the video looked nice. The RPG and sovereign give you more to do in the beginning than "wait ten turns for warrior to be built". However, in one of the videos, he does some combat. WHOAH, that combat just... sucked. I'm going to trust that was auto-resolve, and I understand that there's an option, but to all the other people out there, they see that and they mental hang the game on the shelf. It was a mistake to not even men

This is a big time problem in a lot of games. Particularly 3x..4x...5x... Xx... For instance, on of my old favorites is Civ II. I might wiggle a little bit on the tech tree, but I'm always going for those techs and building the wonders. However, I feel that (not factoring in the radical ideas here), that the randomly awarded research will help somewhat. It relieves the pressure to get a specific tech. as you do not have that control.

... so long as you tell impulse to show pre-release versions. It's in the preferences in impulse (top left menu, preferences, should be the very first check-mark). Ordinarily, your games tab doesn't show beta's (or alphas, should you be in one.)

Now that I've gone through the move and life is returning to only a minor frenetic pace, I gave serious thought to preordering the game. After all, I KNOW I'll be buying it. (Let's see.... love HOMM, Civ... Gal Civ... hmm... this might be a problem.) My question though, is should I preorder through the site or through impulse? My tendency is to order through impulse (they make these things too convenient), but I just want to ensure I'm not going to be
