Elemental's backstory isn't particularly original. However, I'd argue that Elemental's setting is quite original. Honestly, I've played or read plenty of great games and books whose backstories aren't particularly gripping but have quite good stories. So, I'm not worried on this count. I think it's unfair to discount Elemental's lore on the basis that it uses a formula that's been used before. I'm more interested in the meat and detail of a setting. This is where different s
Ive been reading through the lore pages and that recently. And I wondered am I the only one who is dissapointed here? The lore is basically the back story of Gal Civ regurgitated for the fantasy setting of Elemental War of Magic.. Its rather dissapointing considering this was supposed to be the successor to Master of Magic which its looking less and less likely that it will be. I know Brad wrote the back story and that for Gal Civ and I am sure he is proud
The 'above the fray' thing sounds nice, but to a lapsed anarchist who used to teach US civics, it is impossible to swallow the idea of any hereditary positions in government, even mostly ceremonial ones. loukeeya's remark about Charles points directly at the problem. No one gets a say in who sits on the throne, so it is a dice roll with results that can last decades. I don't know the stories of many British monarchs, but I'm pretty sure one reas

A Pathfinder mod would be a lot of fun. And it's OGL. And a lot less likely to sue your pants off than Wizards. If you're doing a Pathfinder mod, I'd be happy to submit some coding and such. Twould be good practice.
I did some casual poking around and learned that the British monarch does indeed have a bit of a functional role, but mostly limited to things like refusing to dissolve Parliament when asked by a PM or appointing an outgoing PM's chosen successor to office without going through a general or party election. Best I can tell, a king or queen could stir the political pot in a dramatic fashion, but that might well lead to having the particular
It seems like almost every science fiction setting throws in bug-aliens are some point or another. Honestly, I think that zerg/tyranid type races are getting a little boring. I'd even rather have klingons and vulcans.
The Empire also scoffs at the Civics concepts of markets. Deals are made on the basis of leverage alone. Instead of relying on institutions, the Empire relies on leaders of capitalism to deal with it. Players can build Financiers (until we have a better name, feel free to suggest a better one) who enhance the city’s money making.
What about Exploiters? Or about Overseers? Profiteers? I like profiteers... that's easy to understand and has a negative connotation
I never took a proper Brit-US comparison course, but I thought that the UK royals had been stripped of all real government powers (other than their wealth). Is there something in the unwritten British constitution that would have let Elizabeth II tell Mr. Cameron, "Thanks, but no thanks. I have this cousin who would do a much better job of shepherding Parliament through this kerfuffle" if the kerfuffle met some criteria for severity?
Or maybe, they will combine WOW with the Warcraft RTS ... and have WOW players able to invade RTS games at any time (other than campaign) as individual units. And then, if your character dies in the RTS world, its permanently trapped until the RTS player says different. Usually this will require allowing the RTS player to use your character as a unit in his game. Then you will be free to continue playing that character in MMOs
Whether or not you choose to decorate a government with living antiques is a minor detail, but having hereditary positions of real public authority is not. What flavor of constitutional monarchist is your dad? And how would establishing a new monarchy help the US with our wretched excuse for a national campaign system? What we really need is changes to the Constitution that do something to clearly exclude corporate spending from
Exactly ... maybe the larger the pressure, in general the larger the penalty. Since it seems to be a "Prestige" based mechanic ... I would think that you could handle this with prestige penalties a la breaking pacts. Examples of this could be decreased prestige in a random city (-5 prestige for 5 turns, or -1 prestige for 25 turns) penalty could be in proportion to pressure ... but this pressure can only be used by spending (Di
I personally would like to see an overhauled leveling system. Right now, it's not very interesting and is really just a mess of numbers. Divorcing essence from levels... or at least having it increase by the same amount each level, would go far into improving the situation for me.
So the serious disadvantage with a "diplomatic ability" in multiplayer is that human players aren't likely to do what you tell them just because you have an arbitrarily high diplomatic skill. In fact, diplomatic ability is only particularly useful if you have powerful AI opponents that you can bargain with (a tall order in a multiplayer game). Considering diplomacy is its own tech tree, throwing diplomacy-heavy kingdoms a bone would be a good idea. Enter Diplomatic Pressure. D
It's strange how something as simple as a particle effects editor can add so much. Good job :)

But we are convinced that had all the goodies been made in beta 1, we might have ended up with a much poorer game. The

Certainly Cameron is the wettest leader the Tories have had since Ted Heath, Gordon Brown despises his own voters and can't keep from insulting Clegg while trying to get him to form a coalition, and Clegg wants to unilaterally disarm.
I'm afraid not...Beta 2 is Multiplayer. The 3D Engine is Beta 3. As you can see, our current stage, Beta 1Z, is supposed to be solidified game mechanics. I don't feel that we have that yet. Until we do, there is no sense going forward. We need to make the gameplay and game mechanics fun and awesome, even on just the cloth map. Right now things are good, but there is massive room for improvement.
<
