Ugh! You got rid of gardens? Do people not remember what it was like before the garden system? I hate to say it but Sanati is right. I thought there was a lot of potential with the garden system, and I think most people simply didn't understand how to use the gardens. Gardens gave cities without fertile land a chance to grow up. It gave a clear reason to build satellite settlements and put natural growth limits on your empire. Without this system you are going to basically ha

What's more worrying to me is how great an advantage it is to have a fast-moving sovereign early on...
I would like my kids to have a little more variety. Maybe the option to school them to become merchants or scholars? In any case, I have a hard time justifying risking them in battle with their 5-7 hitpoints.
City Improvements I completely disagree with those who say dealing with cities are too much micromanagement. As far as I'm concerned, cities are one of the most robust parts of the game right now. Especially in the early game. Unlike everyone else, I think gardens are fantastic and I don't think houses and huts should be self-sustaining. When the UI is improved, a lot of the issues with micromanagement I think will be streamlined. Longer build-times may solve this. It's
Finally got to have a run around with Elemental. I gotta say... nice! But crash bugs ahoy. I don't know what caused this, probably a memory leak, and it has occurred a couple of times. Memory dump in link.
What time would they normally release a beta or news of it not coming? It's already getting late in the day EST.
Oh man, I was hoping Michigan was CT, but it's EST... [e digicons]-_-[/e]
I'd go to that cabaret. [e digicons][/e]
I'd rather Stardock work on original settings than try to work into a new mythology. For this reason I'm pretty happy that Stardock failed to get the rights to Master of Magic.
I really can say Fallout 1, is one of my All time favorite games. Fallout 2, was a fantastic continuation of the series. Both were just great games, (though not with their .. ahem bugs). As far as Fallout 3, I've not completed it due to graphics glitch, and a bit of boredom. But that being said, I think it's a wonderful game for what it is, an artists recreation of a beloved series in a different perspective. Different,
The only sim that keeps me interested is Dwarf Fortress, and its scope is quite different than your average sim. To the OP: Elemental does indeed seem like a good platform for a sim game, if you want to make a sim mod, I say go for it!
Well, I still want to do my ultimate project Dark Republic. But... it's such a large project it makes sense to break it up into chunks, maybe make a simple city builder and working my way up from there.
Yes, please Thursday. If it's Friday I'll never be able to relax with my friends knowing the Beta is so close. I won't be able to shut up about Elemental: War of Magic.
It seems to me that Elemental is a perfect platform for a sim game. Well, perfect is a strong word. A pretty damn good platform. The game already has some really good "sim" moments, the city construction is very strong. You could make a decent Supreme Commander 2020-esque geo-political simulation, or an even better city builder. And if you're just making a fantasy city builder like Settlers, then you'd hardly need to do any work at all. What do you guys think? Do you have a "sim" itch
You know, this idea is a little silly, until I realize you could almost make a minigame out of it on a normal Elemental: War of Magic match. The Kraxis Killers vs. the Altar Angels? That could be quite fun in a weird sort of way. During peacetime instead of tactical battles you'd have tactical football matches... could be fun.

I always thought a PW Roguelike would be pretty awesome. I always thought Mordor: Depths of Dejenol had the right sort of idea. Adventurers could split themselves up into guilds and then form up to make expeditions into the underworld. The dungeons could be randomly generated, although there's a chance you'll run into an other expedition. Depending on your relations, you can fight or trade.
What a stupid topic...Fallout 1 and 2 are completely unplayable due to its completely obsolete graphics, animations and screen resolution.
Die.
On a serious note, it would actually be kinda cool to have young characters in the 13-15 range. It would almost become like a young adult fantasy like the Golden Compass everyone used to read. It's unfortunate that they'd then need to deal with hairy issues like child death.
Obviously it is an exageration to say I would only research one tree. I do believe that it makes sense to be competitive even if I only focus on a single tree. This should be a viable strategy that has benefits and weaknesses but it should never be dwarfed by a middle ground strategy. How would that be fun?
I'm more behind that knowing you aren't for exclusive tech trees. In which case I largely agree with you except for a few caveats. I still think that a specialized n
Not sure if you ever played around much with the online parts of NWN (and NWN2 I suppose *grumble*) but it was a similar situation there. Granted, technically, NWN could handle up to 64 players on a single server, but doing so resulted in tremendous lag across the entire server, so player caps in the 20-32 range were far more common. And despite that? Still a huge amount of fun. These sorts of things don't res
Where did you get that impression?
You mentioned that it would be overly expensive to cripple Beta 2. People probably thought this meant you were in financial trouble.

The Supreme Ruler 2020 guys can get real touchy about their game too... when making a geo-political simulation it's incredibly difficult to make things resolve in a realistic fashion, and sometimes players can get a little unrealistic about what they can really expect from such a game. I've played HOI 3... way too involved for me. I keep hearing about HOI 2... is that something to try? What about Arsenal of Democracy?
You got me... I'm actually pretty kind. Sometimes I
The one tech tree that doesn't really have a "win" condition associated with it is Civilization. This actually makes a lot of sense to me, since Civilization really makes the other trees more effective. You'd be hard pressed to conquer the world without at least, say, a "farming" tech. That said, I'm not fond of the idea of making a empire that focuses exclusively on one tech tree competitive with empires that do not. Even if you choose to specialize, you're still doing token research
What was shown in the video was basically auto-resolve. The game should have full-on zooming tactical battles.
