I don't think it would be three strict variants but a broad spectrum of everything in between.

That could be cool but I think it would be alot of work for the devs... Edit: Dang... Scoutdog beat me to it...

I don't know that I agree that essence = magic, when I say that I mean I don't know that that is strictly true according to the lore. Essence seems more like the life force of the channeler himself. Something separate from magic or it could simply be replaced by mana. The anti-magic powers are magic. No glossing over that. But unless there's some other was to destroy magical constructs I don't see how they could do without it. [Quote]Over a hundred years ago, the world o

I adressed that. Essence is not considered magic by the people. It's not wrong by their philosohpy either because it's not controlling or abusing the maigc of the earth. Instead it is considered to be the spiritual power of you the channeler/prophet.

[quote who="Denryu" reply="10" id="2249270"] I disagree on the balanced. Someone going up against a halberd with a dagger is not on even footing, nor should he be. (this is assuming equal skill levels). Saying they need to be different and then adding that they must be balanced essentially you are saying different but not different. Now I could see daggers being cheaper to produce, and I could also see it requiring less training to train someone to use a dagger than a ha

[quote who="Denryu" reply="10" id="2249270"] Quoting Gazing, reply 9Most important thing is for the different kinds of weapons to be really different. Addendum: they must be balanced. Personaly, I like there beeing a tech tree for metals and different tech trees for different types of gear. Then, if you have both say Bronze and Short Swords, you can make Bronze Short Swords. I disagree on the balanced. Someone going up against a halberd with a dagger is n

You're assuming that being a 'god' in this game means omnipotence which is not true in many mythologies...

But wouldn't it be awesome if you really WERE turned into a god and you had near infinite mana, essence, and casting ability. And people would be forced to surrender unless there was some weakness. Like if your avatar was destroyed all your power would be lost and we could see an UBER epic battle as every othe empire bands together in a near futile attempt to take you down. Like in LotR when the allince of elves and men went up against sauron and won. I think it would be cooler that way.

[quote who="RisingLegend" reply="5" id="1940991"]Well I know i heard of a "Master Quest", that once completed is a way of winning. I would like to see that be the sort of campaign for the sandbox mode, like being completely different everytime with different random events that get in the way. because I dont usually play the campaigns either And i suppose I would like to see that at the end of the Master Quest you dont just win but you find an ancient artifact or somethin

They couldn't use magic true. But there are other ways to balance this. Their soldiers are stronger and they cna make more of them because the population supports the war. They can develop powerful counter magic to protect themselves from enemy magic or destroy enemy benificial magic. And they develop strong mundane technologies to help offset not having magic.

[quote who="MindALot" reply="4" id="2273360"]I think an 'evil emperor' would make for an interesting faction. Basically - the people of the faction are completely against magic, and the channeler preaches against magic. However, the channeler is con-person, and uses magic frequently. However, to keep the people enraged against the 'other evil magic users', all spells used by the channeler are limited to those that cannot be witnessed by his/her own people / traced back to th

[quote who="landisaurus" reply="3" id="2273359"]I know I thought of this kind of thing, more from scoutdog's angle. (almost no magic) Logically speaking, if a group feared and hated magic, they would not use counter magic. The idea of "fighting fire with fire" just does not work to a group that has a deep hatred of fire. They would accept the bare minimum from their channeler, treating it is a "nessicary evil" and lash out with prejudice against anything el

It's not true that the magic angle is 'completely' removed. You still use counter magic and you have people that get 'natural' magical abilities kinda like your channeler. n addition, if you don't want to play a faction with the restriction (and many won't) then there will be plenty of other factions to play.

Ok. So continuing from my previous I'd like to give an example of a faction as I envision it. This is a faction that given the backstory I think just must be included in the game. Since the world was destroyed by a cataclysm caused by magic users trying to harness magic for their own advantage there should be a faction based on the ideal that magic is evil. Or at least using magic is evil. Essence is considered to be different, not so much magic as a sort of spiritual force from the channeler

I think they're keeping some things secret because THEY'RE not sure how it's gonna be and don't want us to have false expectations.

Also. battler have a better liklihood of lasting multiple days because of the magical nature of the game. Spells might be used as delaying tactics to prolong a battle. Or to keep healing and rallying soldiers. Also magical type creatures might have supernatural stamina and resilience. Like a dragon might take days of battle before finally all those little pinpricks actually take their toll.

Psychoravin. I think what you want is a different game from the rest of us. Something without RPG elements. Something that is NOT what the developers have clearly stated the game IS going to be. I can see where you're coming from. Although I strongly disagree with disallowing diplomacy with the human player. In any case, maybe you should be looking at a different game.

NO! NO! AHHHHHHH!! *screams* I'm, having flashbacks to spaceward ho. When you accedentally stranded your fleet on a nearby non colony planet. BUT there was NO metal! WHY OH WHY is there no more metal?? Aren't the planets like MADE of the stuff. I remember doing the auto turn and watching for hours hoping the computer might send the one more ship that would drop enough scrap on my planet to get me another colony ship since I have like 453 mini to save them. But no. It is a stalemate. A
