At the moment, it looks like it's only possible to specify a specific tactical battle map (for example, see the level 5 quests file which is the Master Quest. One of the fights there specifies a tactical battle map to load). It is to my knowledge not possible to open a main game map with a tile trigger - and I'm fairly certain there's no way to "teleport" a unit that discovers a portal thing. If there was, you could just make the locations on the same map but otherwise unreachable..

I had the opportunity to play about 15 minutes worth of Diablo 3 at PAX 09 with the Monk class.. while undoubtedly many changes have been made since, it most definitely felt like a Diablo game, not a sped up World of Warcraft game. It also was not "cartoony" as such, definitely not comparable to Torchlight. It looked like a prettied up high resolution Diablo 2. It was a desert level, not a dungeon crawl, so I can't comment much on lighting.
I won't go into Demigod's launch because it's something of a sore topic around here to this day. Suffice to say, the two situations only seem similar on the surface but behind the scenes the only thing they have in common is that the word Stardock was on both boxes.
This is true. But, for the vast majority of the gamers, this is the only thing that matters. Most people don't go on forums, they don't read dev journals. All they will remember is "Demigod was bashed at lau

As much as I hate to say it, he does make another valid point: SD can't afford to put out broken releases forever, if they don't want to be stuck with a permanent reputation of "never buy these games until a bunch of patches in" which is already common for some developers (Total War games is one I hear a lot of "always wait for a patches"). We've had Demigod and Elemental with pretty bad launches, I think the next one needs to go real well before the perception forms. Being known for providin
Our definitions are just different. WWII shooters was a saturated genre. DOTA games are not. There's 2 of them that have any relevance at all.
Just like there are 2 (well, 3 now though I don't think MoH's long-term prospects are good) modern shooters that have any relevance at all :) Nobody mentions any other modern shooters anymore, all the comparison is between these. As such, how many games came before is basically irrelevant, it's the number of games currently

Yeah, it was definitely talked about for Impulse. However, something like this does require the support of the publishers, since they are ultimately involved as their serial numbers are exchanged. SD (back then and now) doesn't have a whole lot of weight behind it to "encourage" the major publishers to agree to this kind of system - but Valve does. If anyone can start this trend, it would be them. If they managed to break the ice, the other services will soon follow suit, without much co
It happens with user reviews and fanboyism as well; reviews that admit there are far more cons than pros, yet because it's part of a beloved franchise it somehow gets a 7 or 8. Huh? 8? Didn't you just spend three paragraphs telling me how much it sucked?
Well, a lot of "final" point scores tend to be an average of scores for a few categories that a game is judged by. IGN and Gametrailers at least clearly let people see this. A reviewer might bash the "story" into the gr

Even though there are lots of modern shooter games, only 3 are now the "primary" ones - Modern Warfare 2, Bad Company 2, and the new Medal of Honor. Indeed.. for a while DotA was one of its kind, but the market is saturated now. Demigod can more or less be discounted at this point in time, there aren't enough people playing it. Both HoN and LoL are alive and well, however. Don't know about HoN, but LoL actually has national big-money tournaments. Valve is going to have to try *really* hard to make it stand out. LoL and HoN never quite directly competed, the core gameplay is the same style, but there are large differences between the games

You couldn't really go wrong with uninstalling the unpatched game first and then installing fresh, but if the installer doesn't complain that it's already installed, you should be good also.
As for DRM and user reviews I agree giving the game a 0/10 or something is childish. However dinging the review a point or two because of terrible DRM (which as Nenjin said is part of game package, like it or not) is completely within reason. Half-Life 2 may have been considered one of, if not THE best, FPS' of all time but I will never forgive the outrageous hoops you had to jump through just to install and play the game. To be fair, BioWare also tends to put a lot of love into the PC versions of their games. For the most part, however, the majority of cross-platform games are basically developed such that the game is exactly the same on all platforms, which always ends up shafting PC users. Just take a look at the default low resolution textures in Fallout 3 - game was developed for the 360, and the PC version is exactly the same. Even the control scheme wasn't improved to take advantage of the PC's capabilit

To destroy an improvement, enter the city's build mode and there will be a tool that you can use to destroy buildings. As for caravans, in the upcoming 1.1 update I believe they're supposed to be changed to provide gold bonuses and not food.. the current implementation is a bit confusing, but they're going to get changed at least. :)

There's no crusade, I'm only expressing my opinion and not trying to convince anyone. The facts speak for themselves, there is no disservice in the truth. Last I saw the list on the forum's site, there were 13 "credits" for artwork/music, 3 or 4 of which were labeled as having been used with permission, and at least one of the ones that were not used with permission requested that the artist be contacted to work out licensing if anyone wished to use his art. If this list is false, then o

While this is no doubt good news for Elemental overall, it's a little disheartening to see how far a mod that would not have worked if he didn't steal a bunch of art assets from other people/IPs can take him. It is great irony that so many on these boards are vehemently anti-piracy, yet he is universally revered, even though FFH2 essentially pirated the majority of its artwork as most of it was used without permission and in some cases without paying licensing. But would FFH2 have taken off w

Alas, space sims are a dying (dead?) genre, and it's a big shame. The Freespace games have been fantastic, and the ending of Freespace 2 was not only hugely epic, but left a lot of potential for a third entry into the series, that sadly never came and likely never will. Freespace 3 is my #1 wishlist game. Jumpgate: Evolution and Black Prophecy are both going to try and re-create the manual piloting feel of space sims. Oh no, BC2 is a bona fide PC shooter that happens to have a console version :) It's got dedicated servers, a graphics engine worthy of a PC, all that jazz. Definitely check it out, it's pretty awesome. Stay off the Hardcore servers (you can filter) if you're more comfortable with the Halo-like damage model though, where it takes more bullets to die ;) There are 4 classes, with lots of weapon and "extra" unlocks for each. It can be played in SP, which is more or less MP with bots which follows the same rules as any other game that can be described as "like MP but with bots", especially concerning AI. You play over a series of Arenas to determine who becomes the next god, so your goal is to win the tournament. You don't need to win every arena, it uses a combination of points earned if I remember correctly.
